How Great Leaders Manage Their Time 2
[object Object]
Time keeps getting away and they have trouble controlling it. No matter what their position, they cannot stop time, they cannot slow it down, nor can they speed it up.
On the other hand, you can become such a time fanatic convert that you start to waste more time by managing it to deeply.
In addition, time management techniques may become so complex that you soon give up and return to your old time wasting methods.3
The Ability to Summon positive emotions during periods of intense stress , lies at the heart of effective Leadership….  4

Meet people properly. Find things you have in common Make meeting conditions good Let everyone talk. Check your egos at the door. Praise each other. Put it in writing. Be open and honest. Avoid conflict at all costs. Phrase alternatives as questions. How to be a good leader? 8
How to manage time efficiently? 9
1. Goals, Priorities, and Planning Why am I doing this? What is the goal? Why will I succeed? What happens if I chose not to do it? 10
2. Inspiration “If you can dream it, you can do it” Walt Disney Disneyland was built in 366 days, from ground-breaking to first day open to the public. 11
3. Planning Failing to plan is planning to fail Plan Each Day, Each Week, Each Semester You can always change your plan, but only once you have one! 12
4. TO Do Lists Break things down into small steps Like a child cleaning his/her room Do the ugliest thing first 13
Importance of time…. 14
Importance of time. Time cannot be recycled – it can only be leveraged or lost. ”Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that’s the stuff life is made of.- Benjamin Franklin 15
Time is Money….. (And perhaps even more important!) 16
TIME IS MONEY HOW YOU SPEND YOUR TIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOW YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY. MONEY MISTAKE CAN BE CORRECTED, BUT TIME IS GONE FOREVER . 17
Problems we face. 18
Problems We face…. ,[object Object],is really important to us, everything seems important. Because everything seems important,we have to do everything.Other people, unfortunately, see us as doing everything,so they expect us to do everything.Doing everything keeps us so busy, we don’t have time to think about what is really important to us.” 19
Time flies…. Time waits for no one. Most time is wasted not in hours , but in minutes 20
The Problem is Severe By some estimates, people waste about 2 hours per day. Signs of time wasting: Messy desk and cluttered (or no) files Can’t find things Miss appointments Volunteer to do things other people should do Tired/unable to concentrate 21
Telephone Keep calls short; stand during call Start by announcing goals for the call Don’t put your feet up Have something in view that you’re waiting to get to next 22
Interruptions 6-9 minutes, 4-5 minute recovery – five interruptions shoots an hour You must reduce frequency and length of interruptions (turn phone calls into email) Blurting: save-ups E-mail noise on new mail is aninterruption -> TURN IT OFF!! 23

  • 47. The Big Rocks of Time In First Things First, Stephen Covey tells a great story: One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students. As he stood in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz." He then pulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed Mason jar and set it on the table. He produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them one at a time into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes." Then he said, "Really?" 31
  • 48. The Big Rocks of Time He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. Then he dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing it to work down into the space between the big rocks. Then he asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?" By this time the class was on to him. "Probably not," one of them answered. "Good!" he replied. He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand and started dumping the sand in the jar until it filled the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question, "Is this jar full?" No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good." 32
  • 49. The Big Rocks of Time Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?" One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard you can always fit some more things in it!" "No," the speaker replied, "that's not the point." 33
  • 50. The Big Rocks of Time "The truth this illustration teaches us is that if you don't put the big rocks in first, you'll never get them in at all. What are the 'big rocks' in your life? Your children, your loved ones, your education, your dreams, a worthy cause, teaching others, doing things that you love, your health; your mate. Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you'll never get them in at all. If you sweat about the little stuff then you'll fill your life with little things and you'll never have the real quality time you need to spend on the big, important stuff."big So, tonight, or in the morning, when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself this question: What are the 'big rocks' in my life? Then, put those in your jar first. 34
