Starbucks is a
product company
that specializes
in coffee but
there brand is so
much more just
coffee…
Starbucks started over 40 years ago
in 1971 in Seattle’s historic Pike Place
Market. From a single store a global
company, Starbucks has really stayed
true to their brand and making it
strong. They pride themselves on
customer service and a high standard
of quality with everything they do by
providing world’s finest fresh-roasted
whole bean coffees. The Starbucks
chairman, president and chief
executive officer, Howard
Shultz, wanted to create a place for
conversation and a sense of
community. And today, with more than
18,000 stores in 62
countries, Starbucks is the premier
roaster and retailer of specialty
coffee in the world.
Starbucks is a very
reasonably priced brand
for the quality of product
they provide. The prices
of their products range
from coffee pricing as
low as $5.00 to coffee
machines that can go up
to $200.00.
Dunkin Donuts coffee’s range
from as low as 8.99 a bag to
70.00 for bricks of their
freshest brand.
McDonald’s McCafe coffee’s
and smoothies range from
1.00- 4.00. A very
inexpensive buy.
Caribou Coffee prices
range from a ¼ lb bag at
5.00 to a 1lb bag ranging
from $13.00 -$20.00. And
are mostly are organic.
Gevalia’s coffee’s range from
$7.00 a box to $40.00. They
also do a set package where
coffee will automatically be
delivered to you
monthly, weekly, or whatever
your preference may be.
• Ages: Range from Kids and Teens (13-17),
Young Adults (18-24), And Adults (24-40).
• Men and Women….and everything in
between.
• The target audience for Starbucks is really
anyone between the ages of 13-40+ who
enjoy coffee or café like products and who
have a busy or fast paced life.
Target Audience
I’d say that the target market for
Starbucks would typically drive
something along the lines of a Honda
Civic because it’s a typical middle class
car. They normally range from 20,000-
30,000$ and people usually lease these
cars.
Customers of Starbucks would most likely eat at places such as
this because here, you get the ambiance of dining in a 5 star
restaurant but yet it won’t hit your wallet as hard. Starbucks
customers like the idea of high quality for low prices.
The attire of a Starbucks fan is vast and
endless. They could shop at places ranging
from Wal-Mart to Banana Republic. Most
regulars would probably be in casual to
business clothes because their either trying
to chill and relax in Starbuck’s calming
atmosphere, or on their way to work.
Clothing
Most people who purchase this brand
would likely get their hair done at a
Fantastic Sam’s or a Great Clips.
These places offer a high quality of
work for the average working
American that may not have hundreds
to drop on a hairstyle.
Salons
Association for the
Advancement of Mexican
Americans
Business for Social
Responsibility (BSR)
These are just a few of the MANY non
profit organizations Starbucks is affiliated
with or donate too.
I feel that Starbucks has done an
amazing job in staying true to there
brand. It’s really hard to say what
they can do to improve because they
have done such a great job of
covering almost every aspect of how
they could market. However, some
marketing ideas could include doing
an early bird special for senior
citizens, or giving out free samples of
new blends, launch parties, or they
could have their logo placed in
certain places and if you show proof
that you took the picture within the
promotional deadline, you get a free
item. These are just some
promotional ideas to better an
already powerful brand. The fact that
Starbucks is so much more than just
coffee makes them even stronger as
they try to evolve in the future.
