5 Things You Should Never Do in Social Meda
1. 5 Things You Should Never Do
in Social Media
QUICK TIPS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
EFFECTIVENESS
2. Lie.
This should be obvious, but there are plenty of folks
who stretch the truth, dabble in the gray, or fudge
the numbers. Social media is online and
permanent. What you say here can come back to
haunt you – so be upfront and honest at all times.
3. Pass the Buck.
Own it. If you make a mistake, admit it. No one
wants to read your whiny post about how it’s not
your fault, but if you are open and honest, you might
find that people are more interested in what you
have to say, and more engaged since you admitted
that you messed up.
4. Bash Your Competition.
Social media isn’t a place for you to trash talk your
competition. Share what your team does well,
explain why your product is superior, but don’t bash
your competition or you might risk people
considering you as nothing more than a nasty
salesperson in a different environment.
5. Oversell.
Have you been to a party where some bore won’t shut
up about his business/product? It’s the same in the
social media world. No one wants to hear “me, me,
me” all the time. It’s better to just have a conversation
with them and mention your business when it’s natural
to do so. Your audience is not stupid--they already
know what you do. Treat them like a friend, and they
will probably do the same for you.
6. Abandon Your Audience.
It’s going to take time to develop an audience of
followers, and the best way to do this is by providing
them with regular, value-rich content. You want to
create habits within your readers, training them to
return to your site because of the excellent
information. If you slow down or stop, it’s going to be
twice as hard to get them to come back. There’s no
finish line with social media – it’s all about building
and maintaining relationships.
