3. Bullying is a BIG problem! Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength orsocial standing.
4. Why?!? Bullies pick on people they think don’t fit in, maybe because of how they look, how they act, their race or religion.
5. Did you know… (Thumbs up if you know this; thumbs down if it’s new information!) both guys and girls can be bullies? bullies can be quiet & shy? bullies think they’re hot stuff and have the right to push others around? some bullies put other people down to make themselves feel more powerful? many bullies have been hurt by otherbullies – maybe even in their own family.
6. What can you do?!? Tell a trusted adult – parents, teachers, or coaches can often find ways to resolve problems without the bully ever learning how they found out about it. Surround yourself with others – try to remain part of a groupby walking near others and sticking close to friends or classmates when bullying occurs.
7. Bullying Survival Tips! Here are somethingsyou can do to put a stop to bullying! Share them with a friend
8. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 1 – Ignore the bully and walk away. This is not a coward’s response – sometimes it’s harder than losing your temper. Bullies want to get a reaction out of you, and if you walk away or ignore them, you’re telling the bully that you just don’t care.
9. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 2 – Hold the anger. Who doesn’t want to get really upset with a bully? That’s the response the bully is trying to get; they want to control your emotions. Try using humor to throw the bully off.
10. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 3 – Don’t get physical. However you choose to deal with a bully, don’t use physical force (like kicking, hitting, or pushing). You can stand up for yourself in other ways, such as gainingcontrol of the situation by walkingaway.
11. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 4 – Practice confidence. Practice ways to respond to the bully verbally or through your behavior… and practice feelinggood about yourself
12. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 5 – Take charge of your life. You can’t control other people’s actions, but you can stay true to yourself. Think about ways to feel your bestAND your strongest, so that other kids may give up the teasing.
13. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 6 – Talk about it. It may help to talk to a guidance counselor, teacher, or friend – anyone who can give you the support you need. Talking can be a great way to let out the fears and frustrations that can build when you’re being bullied.
14. Bullying Survival Tips! Tip # 7 – Find your (true) friends. Find one or two true friends and confide how bullying has hurt your feelings. Set the record straight by telling your friends what’s true and not true about you.
15. What if YOU are the bully?!? *All of us have to deal with a lot of difficult situations and emotions. *For some people, when they’re feeling stressed, angry, or frustrated, picking on someone else can be a quick escape – it takes the attention away from them and their problems. *Whatever the reason, it’s no excuse for being the bully.
16. What if YOU are the bully?!? Think about how others feel when you tease or hurt them. Bullying makes everyone feel miserable – even the bully. People might feel intimidated by bullies, but they don’t respect them. Do you really want people to think of you as unkind, abusive, and mean?
17. I bullied someone. How can I apologize?!? Be proud of yourself for changing. Offer a sincere and authentic apology, like “I feel really bad for what I did. It’s been on my mind.” Actions speak louder than words – offer to show others you have changed.
18. STOP BULLYING NOW! Take a stand and speak out against a bully! There is power in numbers and by not tolerating bullying, you help others add their support and take a stand, too.
