• The Battle of Tannenberg was
between the Russian Empire and the
German Empire. It took place in the
region of the Masurian Lakes in East
Prussia. It started on August 27 and
ended August 31 in 1914.

• The Battle of Verdun was one of the
major battles fought during WWI that
was fought on the Western Front. This
battle was fought between the German
and French armies from February 21
through December 18, 1916 in North
eastern France.

between September 5 and 12, 1914. It
resulted in an Allied victory against the
German army. The battle ended the
month long German offense that
opened the war.

Europe was swift because of the

• The Gallipoli Campaign took place at
the peninsula of Gallipoli in the
Ottoman Empire. The British and the
French operation was made to capture
the Ottoman capital of Constantinople.

• The attempt failed and many people
died on both sides. The battle was
considered one of the greatest victories
of the Turks and was reflected in as a
major failure by the Allies. The Gallipoli
campaign settled among all countries
involved.

• The Stalemate was trench warfare. It
was mainly fought on the Western front
between France and Germany, with
assistance from Great Britain.

14. The Christmas Truce
• The Christmas Truce was a widespread
of ceasefires that took place along the
Western front around Christmas 1914,
during First World War. Through the
week leading up to Christmas, armies
of German and British soldiers began to
exchange seasonal greetings and songs
between their trenches.

• On occasion the tension was reduced to
the point where they would walk across
the battle field and talk to one another.
The truce is sen as a symbolic moment
of peace and humanity during one of
the most violent times during modern
times.
