The Five Kingdoms of Life
1. Living things are arranged in groups for scientific convenience. There are five kingdoms of life that are subdivided into smaller groups.
The five kingdoms
• Monera :
This is a living thing which has been made of an only cell without kernel.
In this category, there is for example Eubacteria.
This is a true bacterium and probably the first form of life.
• Protista:
Protista is Protozoa and unicellular algae.
In this group, there is Chlorophyta. This is green algae.
This type of algae is almost like terrestrial plants.
• Fungi :
This is a group with organisms usually called mushrooms. For example Zygomycota, don’t have spores and
don’t have flagella too.
These are tiny mushrooms which are characterized by rapid growth.
• Plantae :
Plantae are multicellular being, at base of the food chain.
In Plantae there are Coniferophyta.
These are plants are appeared on earth 150 million years ago.
Coniferophyta are vascular plants with seeds, which are situated in the North of America.
In Plantae, we find two other groups, both are Angiospremophyta. In this one, there is Monocotyledonae
and Dicotyledonae.
• Animalia :
These are beings who eat organic substances. As living organisms, an animal needs water
and dioxygen.
In Animalia there are Brachiopods. Brachiopods are marine animals. The shell is composed of two valves (a big and a small one) as
mussels, oysters… Near the mouth there is a sort of arm with eyelashes to filter seawater to feed and get enough oxygen.
There are two big groups in Animalia.
In the Arthropoda there are four other groups. These are Chelicerata, Crustacea, Mandibulata and Trilobitidea.
In the Chordata there are three groups. These are Urochordata, Cephalochordata and Vertebrata.
In Vertebrata, there is Mammalia.
