2. Smart Phones are affecting productivity, communication in the work place, social engagement, and have an effect in education. Continuous time spent on Smart phones means less physical interaction, less attention paid in class, and work requirements not being achieved as they should. My view on statement
3. Affecting productivity It’s shown that continuous access to email and messaging distracts employees, thus lowering productivity. Constant distractions lead to employees not paying attention in meetings and not knowing what needs to be done.
4. Communication in the work place Communication in the work place has become easier and more frequent through smartphones, however there is less face to face communication. Confusion is incurred when communicating as not all is understood between co-workers.
5. Social engagement It is noticed that people do not keep eye contact when engaging with others, their focus is diverted to their phones. Less people interact in person as it is easier for them to communicate with their smartphones.
7. Effect in education With teenagers being in their social prime, lots of their attention is on staying in touch with friends which is made easier Statistics show a decrease in matric pass rates, and an increase in smart phone sales and that close to 50% of smartphone users are in the later stages of high school and university.
8. Conclusion There are too many distractions with smartphones for them to be an advantage in most situations. Although they make researching, among other things simpler ,the constant availability to messaging and internet is too tempting for most to resist. Therefore smartphones do affect productivity, communication in the work place, social engagement, and have an effect in education negatively.
