2. Early Life
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-
upon-Avon 100 miles northwest of London,
and was baptised a few days later on 26 April
1564. His father, John Shakespeare, was a
glove maker and wool merchant and his
mother, Mary Arden, was the daughter of a
well-known landowner from Wilmcote, South
Warwickshire.
3. Shakespeare was educated at the local King
Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford. The next
documented event in Shakespeare’s life is his
marriage at the age of 18 to Anne Hathaway, the
daughter of a local farmer - She was eight years
older than him and was already pregnant. soon
they had a daughter named sussana. Then they
had twins, son Hamnet and daughter Judith.
Hamnet died at the age of 11 but the reason is
unknown.

documentary records of Shakespeare’s activities.

vocabulary was HUGE-somewhere between
17,000 and 34,000 words! The estimated
vocabulary of an educated person today is
around 15,000 words. There are words, that
first appeared in his plays : Accommodation
lonely, Assassination gloomy, Dexterously
fretful, Dislocate suspicious, Obscene hurry,
Reliance, Premeditate.
7. William Shakespeare Returned to Stratford
around 1610 where he lived as a country
gentleman Wealthy-Owned one of the largest
homes in town. Died in Stratford in 1616 at the
age of 52. His death was a mystery. It is
rumored that he drank too much and
contracted a fever or that he died from a
cerebral hemorrhage.
