INTRODUCTION
 WHAT IS WITRICITY :The transmission of energy from
one place to another without using wires.
 In 1899, Sir Nikola Tesla Proposed a method of
Wireless Power Transmission
 The 187 feet tall tower to broadcast energy
 But due to Shortage of fund the tower did not operate

For the application of
INDUCTIVE COUPLING
 Primary and secondary coils are not connected with
wires.
 Energy transfer is due to Mutual Induction
 Transformer is a basic example for induction process
Resonance Inductive Coupling(RIC
The capacitor and inductor forms the resonator. Charge
oscillates between inductor (as magnetic field) and
capacitor (as electric field.)
 This type of oscillation is called
resonance if the reactance's
of the inductor and capacitor
are equal.
 Capacitor is connected parallel to the coil
 Energy will be shifting back and forth between
magnetic field surrounding the coil and electric field
around the capacitor

MICROWAVE POWER TRANSFER
In this method Electrical energy is converted to
microwave energy.
AC is converted to DC first then this DC is converted
to microwaves using MAGNETRON.
This wave is Captured using RECTENNA and convert
Microwave energy to electrical energy.
This Method is used where transfers high power from
one place to another being in line of sight usually.
Solar Power Satellite
Power beaming using microwaves has been
proposed for the transmission of energy from
orbiting solar power satellites to Earth
 RECTENNA in US receives 5000MW of power
from SPS
 Stands for rectifying
Antenna
 Converts microwave
to its DC equivalent
 MAGNETRON
LASERS
 In the case of electromagnetic radiation closer to
visible region of spectrum ,power can be
transmitted by converting electricity into a laser
beam that is then pointed at a solar cell receiver.
 LASER is highly directional, coherent
 Not dispersed for very long
 Simple receiver
 Photovoltaic cell
 Cost-efficient
 But, gets attenuated when it propagates through
atmosphere

MERITS
Eliminates the existing transmission line cables, towers and sub
stations
More freedom of choice of both receiver and transmitters
Cost of transmission and distribution become less.
Power could be transmitted to the places where the wired
transmission is not possible.
Loss of transmission is negligible level.
Safer by eliminating the sparking hazard.
DEMERITS
The Capital Cost for practical implementation of WPT
seems to be very high.
Interference of microwave with present
communication systems
Common belief fears about the effect of microwave
radiation among peoples
When LASERs are used,
conversion is inefficient
Absorption loss is high
FUTURE SCOPE AND MARKET
Think that the city will be covered with WiTricity hot spots
like wi-fi.
which eliminate need of charging batteries or carrying
adapters all around !
Transport system become wirelessly powered
which eliminate fuel engines.
 Which will give rise to the Robotic Technology
they will work for us 24 H 365 days without any failure.
CONCLUSION
More reliable than ground based solar power.
 If we develop this ,we need not bother about the
exhaustion of natural resources.
Transmission without wires- a reality
 Low maintenance cost. But, high initial cost
 Low energy wastage
 In near future, world will be completely wireless

  • 3. INTRODUCTION  WHAT IS WITRICITY :The transmission of energy from one place to another without using wires.  In 1899, Sir Nikola Tesla Proposed a method of Wireless Power Transmission  The 187 feet tall tower to broadcast energy  But due to Shortage of fund the tower did not operate
  • 5. WHY WPT ? Reliable Efficient Fast Low maintenance cost Can be used for short-range or long-range.
  • 6. TYPES AND TECHNOLOGIES OF WPT  Near-field techniques Inductive Coupling Resonant Inductive Coupling Air Ionization  Far-field techniques Microwave Power Transmission (MPT) LASER power transmission

  • 8. INDUCTIVE COUPLING  Primary and secondary coils are not connected with wires.  Energy transfer is due to Mutual Induction  Transformer is a basic example for induction process
  • 9. Resonance Inductive Coupling(RIC The capacitor and inductor forms the resonator. Charge oscillates between inductor (as magnetic field) and capacitor (as electric field.)  This type of oscillation is called resonance if the reactance's of the inductor and capacitor are equal.
  • 10.  Capacitor is connected parallel to the coil  Energy will be shifting back and forth between magnetic field surrounding the coil and electric field around the capacitor  Block diagram

MICROWAVE POWER TRANSFER In this method Electrical energy is converted to microwave energy. AC is converted to DC first then this DC is converted to microwaves using MAGNETRON. This wave is Captured using RECTENNA and convert Microwave energy to electrical energy. This Method is used where transfers high power from one place to another being in line of sight usually.
  • 12. Solar Power Satellite Power beaming using microwaves has been proposed for the transmission of energy from orbiting solar power satellites to Earth
  • 13.  RECTENNA in US receives 5000MW of power from SPS  Stands for rectifying Antenna  Converts microwave to its DC equivalent  MAGNETRON
  • 14. LASERS  In the case of electromagnetic radiation closer to visible region of spectrum ,power can be transmitted by converting electricity into a laser beam that is then pointed at a solar cell receiver.
  • 15.  LASER is highly directional, coherent  Not dispersed for very long  Simple receiver  Photovoltaic cell  Cost-efficient  But, gets attenuated when it propagates through atmosphere
  • 16. Is WiTricity Secure ? 16 Principle is based on Magnetic Waves. The question is if Magnetic Waves Secure ? The answer is we all live in a globe that has already surrounded by magnetic waves. Yes it is secure !

MERITS Eliminates the existing transmission line cables, towers and sub stations More freedom of choice of both receiver and transmitters Cost of transmission and distribution become less. Power could be transmitted to the places where the wired transmission is not possible. Loss of transmission is negligible level. Safer by eliminating the sparking hazard.

DEMERITS The Capital Cost for practical implementation of WPT seems to be very high. Interference of microwave with present communication systems Common belief fears about the effect of microwave radiation among peoples When LASERs are used, conversion is inefficient Absorption loss is high
  • 23. FUTURE SCOPE AND MARKET Think that the city will be covered with WiTricity hot spots like wi-fi. which eliminate need of charging batteries or carrying adapters all around ! Transport system become wirelessly powered which eliminate fuel engines.  Which will give rise to the Robotic Technology they will work for us 24 H 365 days without any failure.
  • 24. CONCLUSION More reliable than ground based solar power.  If we develop this ,we need not bother about the exhaustion of natural resources. Transmission without wires- a reality  Low maintenance cost. But, high initial cost  Low energy wastage  In near future, world will be completely wireless
