Arguments For And Against Abortion Research Paper
What if your life was taken away from you for no reason? If your parents decided to have an
abortion when they were pregnant with you, you would not be here. You would have not gotten
to experience life and would not have the life you have today. Some people choose to have an
abortion and that destroys an incident child's life. That poor child will not get to live their life
and have a bright future. It is wrong to just kill a child for no absolute reason. Instead of having
an abortion you could give the baby up for adoption. Even though you may not want the baby,
someone else will. Some people cannot have babies and they would be grateful to adopt a child
and call it theirs. Giving your baby up is a positive thing because it allows someone...show more

The family could have been looking forward to having another child in their family. It would have
been a blessing to the family. After a woman has an abortion she will mostly regret it, have
serious complications, and have depression later in her lifetime. Later in life when you want to
start a family and get pregnant, your risks of having a miscarriage will increase highly. After
having an abortion you will go through a lot of psychological pain and stress ("10 Common
Arguments For and Against Abortion"). There are going to be many side affects from having an
abortion, some side effects will be shame, loneliness, loss of self–confidence, nightmares,
relationship issues, suicidal thoughts, eating disorder, and anxiety ("Emotional Side Effects After

Arguments Against Abortion Essay
The debate on whether abortion should be legal, or illegal has become a controversial topic that has
divided the nation into two. The group of people who don't see anything wrong with the issue refer
to their group as pro–choice supporters. Their main belief about abortion is that because a woman's
body belongs to herself it should be up to her on whether she wants to keep a baby or not. Those
who are against abortion and feel it should be illegal think of themselves as pro–life supporters. They
believe that a fetus becomes human at conception making abortion murder. In other words, they feel
abortion is immoral and should be illegal. People shouldn't view abortion as killing a baby, it's much
more than that. Abortion is an option for...show more content...
Furthermore, when did someone's personal decision become open to the public to judge? Why
should what one woman do to her body be another woman's concern? Women have the right to their
own bodies and should have the choice to treat it how they please. If it's her body, it's her choice.
"Abortion is not a decision a woman comes to lightly, rather one of careful consideration and
extremely difficult thought. Women do not deserve to be punished and slammed with guilt and
humiliation for making a choice that should be entirely hers" (Kaleigh–Ann). Therefore, women
shouldn't be punished and crucified by society for what they feel is in best interest of their body and
health. Even if they were to take this choice away, you can't force them to see through a healthy
pregnancy. At the end of the day it is the woman who makes these choices that must live with them
and that shouldn't have to involve the opinions of the government or society.
In addition, abortions due to birth defects are common but are still difficult on the mother. When
a mother chooses to abort her baby because of birth defects is once she has searched for multiple
second opinions from various doctors and has considered her options and risks. "It will help later
to know you had the information verified by a specialist before proceeding" ("Considering
Abortion due to Birth Defects"). As stated above whether a woman gets an abortion is her choice
and is done after all options have been

An Argument Against Abortion Essay
An Argument Against Abortion Abortion is a serious topic that people have been debating about
for years. Everywhere you turn the topic of abortion presents itself, on TV, in the newspapers, in
books and magazines. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. As
long as abortion remains legal, pro–life advocates will continue to protest what they believe to be
these horrible acts of murder. Dating all the way back to the 1800's, abortions have been taking
place all over the world. In the US abortion laws were created around 1820 stating that women
would not have abortions after already being pregnant for four months. Then by 1900 most abortions
were outlawed. It wasn't until 1956 that all fifty states had...show more content...
It has a genetic make up from the time of creation, therefore making it a living thing. It was
argued that the fetus was just a mass of tissue that wasn't really alive, but it has been proven that
it is indeed a human being. The concept fetus is used to denote the unborn human from the end of
the eighth week after conception to the moment of birth, as distinguished from the earlier embryo
(the product of conception from implantation in the uterus through the eighth week of
development). A fetus contains all the organs and has the basic human form. (Rand) So when we
take the life of a fetus, we are taking the life of another human being. Looking at abortion from a
religious viewpoint, abortion is a mortal sin. Taking the life of a human being is the greatest sin a
human can commit. If it is not acceptable to take the life of a 5 year old, an 18 year old, or a 50
year old, then why is it acceptable to take the life of a human who hasn't even had the chance to
live yet? The point is it shouldn't be. Taking a life, no matter what the age is, is morally wrong. An
unexpected pregnancy is no reason to abort the baby. If someone is mature enough to make the
decision to have sex, they should be mature enough to do it properly, and if they do not, they should
live with the consequences of their actions. The only way to totally prevent a pregnancy is to
practice total abstinence, which is the only birth control that is 100%. Practicing

An abortion is also known as a termination, meaning to terminate, to stop. An abortion is when you
stop a pregnancy, by removing the foetus from the womb.
Many people frown upon abortions, as they see them as the killing of a life. Other people believe
that it is a 'potential' life, and that a foetus is not considered to be a child.
Some people feel that in a situation where the prospective parents are told their unborn child may be
disabled, an abortion is acceptable.
The situation mostly frowned upon is abortion for social reasons e.g. the mother cannot afford to

This quote shows that Christians believe that only God should decide who should live or die. It
implies we should not choose our own deaths, or choose whether someone else should live or die,
and that we only take our memories and things we have learnt when we die.
This quote could be construed that Christian belief is against abortion. Abortion would deny a foetus
the chance to experience life, and gain knowledge and memories.
I believe that the quote has a valid opinion, but on the other hand, understand that people cannot
always provide for a child, or may have a medical problem which could cause them harm is they
went through with a pregnancy. They should be allowed the freedom to choose whether they want an
abortion, but should only use this as a last resort. Careless pregnancies should not happen, as people
should take more care, and use contraceptives.
If what God says is right, and what he does sets a precedent, then why does he kill? In the story or
Noah, God wiped out the whole world (except for a few people and animals), just because it did
not please him that the world had turned out the way it did, as it was not what he had planned. In
these actions, is God not doing the same thing as a woman might do when she has an abortion? She
is terminating her

To really get into this argument we want to understand what abortion is. Abortion is outlined as "the
termination of a gestation when, amid, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or foetus;
particularly :the procedure of causing expulsion of a personality's fetus to terminate a pregnancy"
(Merriam–Webster). However, if solely the controversy over theabortion issue was as
straightforward because the definition provided higher than. very similar to each side of human
life, a press release is neither right nor wrong, however merely left open for interpretation. there's
no black and white in life, solely grey areas. Some problems tend to produce US additional grey

In our society today, abortion is a daily occurrence that is considered essential to society even though
it is unconstitutional and immoral. The question is, how did America declare the murder of unborn
babies legal when the cons clearly outweigh the pros?
In America it is a felony to murder another human being, so how is it that babies are allowed to be
killed before they are born? An article in the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health found that young
women who undergo abortion are at an increased risk for depression. Another study from BBC
Medicine found that women who have abortions were 154% more likely to commit suicide along
with having significantly higher anxiety rates. Not only do abortions have dramatic affects on the

However, instead of using America's tax dollars on surgeries that commitmurder, the government
should be spending the tax dollars on creating easier access to contraception, or making adoption
costs cheaper. Others may say that it is better to abort the baby rather than put it up for adoption.
This is an absurd argument due to the fact that adoption will provide the baby with a home and a
family that they can grow up in, and feel welcome. It is true that adoption can sometimes seem
like a bad option because of the way movies and television often depict it however, more often
than not it is only the bad foster homes that are heard about on the news, movies or television
shows. Rarely ever does the media portray a loving, caring home where children can be
themselves, no matter how they got there. There is also the argument of fetuses with autism, or
other "diseases". Many women say that they would rather have an abortion than have a child who
has to live with autism or missing limbs, for example. The only problem with this argument is
that everyone in life has adversity to overcome and by aborting a baby simply because of the way he
/she will act or look is utterly ridiculous. No human being should be denied life based because of the
way they look or the way they act or they way others will perceive

An Argument Against Abortion Essay
Abortion in America is a controversial issue in which both sides have valid arguments at face value.
The pro–choice side has many arguments to support it belief in keeping abortion legal. Many of
these are faulty, and argue points irrelevant to the issue as I will attempt to illustrate, thereby
eliminating the main pro–choice arguments. The pro–life position has somewhat different ideas. The
most popular of these is: The unborn entity is fully human from the moment of conception. Abortion
results in the intentional death of the unborn entity. Therefore, abortion can be defined the
intentional killing of a human being. This killing is in most cases unjustified, since the unborn
human being has a...show more content...
The reason this argument doesn't work is because it is begging the question. In fact, this lie hides
behind a good percentage of the popular arguments for the pro–choice position. One begs the
question when one assumes what one is trying to prove is correct. The question–begging of the
coat–hanger argument is very obvious: but only by assuming that the unborn are not fully human
does the argument work. If the unborn are not fully human, then the pro–choicer has a legitimate
concern, just as one would have in overturning a law forbidding appendicitis operations if countless
people were needlessly dying of both appendicitis and illegal operations. But if the unborn are fully
human, this pro–choice argument is the same as saying that because people die or are harmed
while killing other people, the state should make it safe for them to do so. Even some pro–choicers,
who argue for their position in other ways, admit that the coat hanger/back–alley argument is crap.
Although statistics cant establish a particular moral position, there has been arguments over both the
actual number of illegal abortions and the number of women who died as a result of them before
legalization. Prior to Roe vs Wade, pro–choicers used saying that nearly a million women every year
obtained illegal abortions performed

"I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born," vocalized by former
President Ronald Reagan. When the word abortion is articulated, an automatic opinion forms in a
person's mind; he or she is either for this controversial issue or against it. However, there are those
who believe that abortion should be used in only special circumstances. To begin, supporters of
abortion are pro–choice. Supporters argue that it's a woman's right to have control over her own
body and reproductive system and that women may seek out illegal and unsafe alternatives.
Abortion dates back to 1550 B.C. by the Egyptians and was accepted in ancient Greece and Rome.
No authority in religion or government limitation should impede on a woman's right to decide on
whether to complete the pregnancy or terminate it. The argument of population control has also been
recognized as a reason, along with the reduction of crime and that the fetus has no pain inflicted on
it. In cases of rape or incest, the trauma the woman has experienced influences and increases the risk
of abuse or abandonment. Abortion is considered, at large, a safe procedure with the types being

A woman should primarily take responsibility over her body and be attentive to the necessary
precautions to decrease any displeasurable circumstances. Supporters state that personhood is
present at conception, pain and suffering is being inflicted on the fetus during the procedure, and
couples that are unable to conceive are delayed in the adoption process. The risk of future medical
complications, such as ectopic pregnancies, doubles. The chance of pelvic inflammatory disease and
a miscarriage also increases. Connecticut, in 1821, was the first state to criminalize the practice and

The right to life is the most basic and important right that we have. In the past two hundred years,
over one million Americans have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches
have been delivered, honoring these American heroes. America is now engaged in a war where there
are no heroes, no monuments or tributes – only victims. Our society has declared war on its most
helpless members – our unborn children. Since that war was declared on January 22, 1973, there
have been over 35 million deaths.

I guess not, as long as you are in the womb according this argument. Those unwanted children who
have become criminals, while sad, certainly are not sentenced to death that easily and they still have
the possibility of changing their lives. Allowing abortion because of the mere possibility of
becoming a criminal would seem to mean it is permissible to use the death penalty for a lot more
than just murder if taken to its logical and frightening conclusions. Abortion for this reason just takes
us off the hook for showing love and concern to these unwanted children, but that would be more
time consuming and difficult and not always successful and, quite frankly, just not as convenient for
us.
Assume that the practice of drinking milk was widely considered immoral and that the evilness of
drinking milk was obvious to everyone, including children. What is the best way for a minority of
milk drinkers to get their behavior accepted by the majority? The milk drinkers know that they
cannot convince enough people to accept their position by direct argument alone. The only way to
get immoral behavior accepted would be to change the definition of commonly understood words.
For example, they might refer to milk as flavored water and to drink flavored water is not immoral.

In this life, as an individual everyone single person has a choice. The constitution states that we
have plenty of rights. A major right, is the right to privacy. That being said, what we choose to do
with our lives, is our choice. Granted, everyone will have an opinion on anything you do in your
lifetime. People will judge you for what you do and even what you do not do. I say this to relate
back to abortion of babies. This is a huge controversy going on in the world, actually worldwide. As I
said before, we have a lot of rights for the United States as citizens. For example, the court case
about Roe and Wade talks about privacy. The constitution states that the right to privacy is a broad
enough aspect to encompass a woman's choice to either have an abortion or to keep the child. This
was stated on January 22 of 1973 during the Roe and Wade case. I believe that there is always a

No matter what you do in this world, someone will always be judging you or going against you.
This is happening a lot in this society. Women are being judged for aborting their babies. That
being said, there is a lot of circumstances that these women go through when making these
decisions. Think about if a women is raped by another man and wants to have an abortion. Would
the people that are against abortion think it is still wrong? Possibly. Yet, if you were that women
would you want to be raising a child that would remind you of that terrible memory? Instead of
rape, let's say that you are a women who is homeless and has intercorse with another male. That
women might not have enough money to support that child. One way she is unable to not provide
for that child would be money. No clothes, no school and possibly no food. This is when it would be
the better option to have an abortion instead of continuing to have that baby. Therefore, what if that
women is spending her money on something else, such as

While world is advancing in every field, there are many people who talk against the legal status of

who oppose them. After decades of women's struggle for the legal status for abortions till 1970's,
people who are opposing abortions are still bringing this debate into public with their version of
arguments. There may be personal or religious or emotional reasons to oppose the abortions. The
meaning of abortion itself is stopping the unwanted pregnancy. Women would only choose for

In the article "We're Not Sorry Charlie" by Jennifer Baumgargner says that "it's crucial to understand
abortion rights in terms of women's most basic ability to live in freedom–or even to live, period".
Most of the women choose for abortion only in unfavorable situations or medical reasons. Those
reasons might be poor financial situation or improper age to have a child or abnormal embryo in
the mother's womb or other. It is a women who is going bear all the pain and carry a child for 9
months in those unfavorable situations. It may cause severe mental trauma and may lose their
self–confidence. Women must have the right to decide about their own body and life. Illegalizing
abortions may create social problems such as orphans in the society. The number of unwanted
children will increase. Those children might have a chance to get foster care only if they are lucky.
In the movie "The Cider House Rules" we can notice the same situation. Only few children were
able to get foster care but rest of the children remained in the orphanage without parental care. When
they grow up, they may not know what to do with their lives. This will create great difficulties in

Arguments for and Against Abortion The battle over whether to legalize or ban abortion in the
United States has greatly increased in recent years; the moral, ethical and legal had been a
continuous fight in our society. The abortion issue is also the most passionate and debatable in the
United States to whether allow one to have free will over their body or have the government make
that decision. Furthermore, it is one of the leading debates in political races. In this society
everyone has a choice and they all have consequences. The choice for a woman to choose to have an
abortion is solely her fundamental right. Contrary to pro–choice supporters, pro–life supporters
argue that the fetus has more right to life than a woman's privacy right (Head, 2015). I believe that
if anyone interferes with one's right to take any decisions about their own body is a violation of
their rights, which makes me stand towards pro–choice for abortion.
Pro Choice In the United States the two groups, mostly differ by gender and age. The middle–aged
groups are equally split on the abortion issue, whereas 55 and older are mostly on the pro–life side.
Individuals ages 18 to 34 lean mostly towards pro–choice for abortion. However, the greatest
difference on these views is between the political groups, whereas Republicans are mostly pro–life,
Democrats pro–choice and independents are in the middle (Saad, 2014).
These issues revolving around abortion laws had been a problem for a long time. The

Arguments against abortion:
From pro–life point of view, our life begins at conception. Abortion is similar to murder as by
abortion we are taking human life. Abortion does not fit with the idea of the purity of human life.
There are no civilized societies that permits people intentionally harm the life of another human. An
abortion can be injurious for women's health and can create serious medical complications later in
life. In the case of rape and incest, if proper medical treatment can be ensured within time for women
safety then woman will not get pregnant. By abortion, we kill the unborn child who is free from all
bad works. Instead, we should punish the criminal. Abortion should not be interpreted as a form of
contraception. Women can use contraception to minimize the risk of unwantedpregnancy who want
to control their body. Most of the women who do abortions are often young women. They possess
an insufficient life experience to understand what they are actually doing. Many of them have
lifelong regrets afterward for killing their own child. Abortion also causes intense psychological pain
and stress for the women. (Lowen, 2017)
Arguments for abortion
In most of the cases, women do abortions in their first trimester. On that time a fetus is attached by
the placenta and umbilical cord to the mother. The condition of baby's health is dependent on her
mother's health. A fetus cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb.

The issue with laws against abortion is that they are based on the individual's morality and religion,
but laws are not meant to appease one's conscious, they are meant to uphold the rights of man. Every
woman and man under the United States Constitution is granted civil liberties and when President
Trump delivered his Executive order, it breached people's civil liberties by denying them access to
healthcare. Whether abortion is morally correct, is up for debate, but a government should not be
able to ban or defund such means for a woman to uphold her own civil liberties. When any

Should women abort their children? It's not a question as to if they should or should not, because
it is happening. Despite whether an individual or the President thinks abortion is not okay, is
irrelevant. Abortion is a prevalent issue not because it's legal but because people chose to abort.
The government has no right to tell a woman whether or not to give birth, it abridges her civil
liberties as a free American citizen, yet that is exactly what denying access to abortion amounts to.
Sippel describes her opposition to the reinstatement of the "global gag rule" in her article, Silence
on Abortion Equals Death. There she reminds the reader that it is not solely an end of taxpayers
money going to abortion but it "pulls all global health assistance, including for programs that
address infectious diseases like malaria, Zika and Ebola"(Sippel). As well as ending international
funding, it restricts funding for clinics that provide contraceptives, pregnancy care, and sexual
education. Proven by statistics from various surveys on abortion, although the intention of this
Executive Order is to stop abortion, it does not; and while doing so, results in more casualties and
birth defects. Due to lack of funding for non–profit healthcare organizations, such as Planned
Parenthood, there is an increase in the risk of the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and unsafe
abortions. Defunding abortion means "eliminat[ing] the clinics", clinics "which provide a host of
other vital services to poor women around the world"(Kuntzman). It's not the act of abortion that is

Abortion in the United States has been and still remains one of the biggest and most controversial
problems in American politics and culture. Many anti–abortion laws have been on the statue books

legal under very narrow circumstances in twenty other states. Their idea of "narrow circumstances"
are pregnancies derived from rape or incest. In that same exact year, the Supreme Court abolished all
these laws in Roe v. Wade. It also set some guidance for the availability of abortion. Roe entrenched
that the right for a woman to obtain an abortion, in privacy, "must be considered against important

Introduction Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in
America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately "53 million legal abortions were performed in the
United States" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro–Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman's choice
and a protected personal right "that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority"
(Procon.org, 2015, p.1). However, Pro–Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very
moment of conception and thus an "abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being"
(Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides.

Pro–Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of
conception. Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from
the child. A child can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015,
p.1). Furthermore, a fetus does "feel pain during the abortion procedure" because by eight weeks
the "most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1).
Moreover, the psychological affects of an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased
depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). "A 2002 peer–reviewed study published by the
Southern Medical Journal... found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit
suicide than women who carried to term" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Life supporters believe
women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of contraception. If one becomes pregnant,
one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the world. Thousands of families desire
to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces "the number of adoptable babies" (Procon.org,
2015, p.1). Lastly, "abortion promotes a culture in which human life is disposable" and it is
acceptable to rid of a life that inconveniences you (Procon.org, 2015,

Americans still debate about whether or not abortion should be a legal option even long after the
U.S. Supreme Court's 7–2 decision on Roe. v. Wade said that the procedure was a "fundamental
right" on January 22, 1973. People who identify themselves as pro–life believe that personhood
begins at conception and that abortion is the killing of a human being. I believe that the unborn child
suffers during abortion and it is unfair to allow abortion when people who can't have their own
babies are waiting to adopt. Abortion is murder. The killing of a human being is wrong even if that
human has not been born yet. The U.S. government consider babies that have not been born to still
be human beings. The Federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted "to protect
unborn children from assault and murder," says that under federal law, anyone intentionally killing

taste or opinion... The human nature of the human being from conception to old age is not a

In humanity today exits a covenant that when fertilization converts to human life, that the human

Having studied this topic before, I have looked at most aspects of both sides of the issue, and
agree with many arguments equally. Even though it is not understood, relating both sides' views
hold many agreements. Most would agree that the life of a child is a precious thing that deserves
the full defense of the law. More would agree that it's a woman's private right to make decisions
concerning her body. The main conflict that keeps the two sides from getting along is when thefetus
becomes a child, because it now jumps to a position where if the woman decides to commit
abortion will also be considered murder, and on the other hand concluding with birth will harm the
child in other areas of his life. When it becomes down to deciding which side I am for, I would say I
advocate in favor of pro–choice and stick to their views. I rely on the rights should constantly stay
there for a woman to decide on whether or not to have her

Arguments For And Against Abortion Essay

  • 1. Arguments For And Against Abortion Research Paper What if your life was taken away from you for no reason? If your parents decided to have an abortion when they were pregnant with you, you would not be here. You would have not gotten to experience life and would not have the life you have today. Some people choose to have an abortion and that destroys an incident child's life. That poor child will not get to live their life and have a bright future. It is wrong to just kill a child for no absolute reason. Instead of having an abortion you could give the baby up for adoption. Even though you may not want the baby, someone else will. Some people cannot have babies and they would be grateful to adopt a child and call it theirs. Giving your baby up is a positive thing because it allows someone...show more content... The family could have been looking forward to having another child in their family. It would have been a blessing to the family. After a woman has an abortion she will mostly regret it, have serious complications, and have depression later in her lifetime. Later in life when you want to start a family and get pregnant, your risks of having a miscarriage will increase highly. After having an abortion you will go through a lot of psychological pain and stress ("10 Common Arguments For and Against Abortion"). There are going to be many side affects from having an abortion, some side effects will be shame, loneliness, loss of self–confidence, nightmares, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts, eating disorder, and anxiety ("Emotional Side Effects After and Abortion"). Your risks for having this side effects increase after having an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Arguments Against Abortion Essay The debate on whether abortion should be legal, or illegal has become a controversial topic that has divided the nation into two. The group of people who don't see anything wrong with the issue refer to their group as pro–choice supporters. Their main belief about abortion is that because a woman's body belongs to herself it should be up to her on whether she wants to keep a baby or not. Those who are against abortion and feel it should be illegal think of themselves as pro–life supporters. They believe that a fetus becomes human at conception making abortion murder. In other words, they feel abortion is immoral and should be illegal. People shouldn't view abortion as killing a baby, it's much more than that. Abortion is an option for...show more content... Furthermore, when did someone's personal decision become open to the public to judge? Why should what one woman do to her body be another woman's concern? Women have the right to their own bodies and should have the choice to treat it how they please. If it's her body, it's her choice. "Abortion is not a decision a woman comes to lightly, rather one of careful consideration and extremely difficult thought. Women do not deserve to be punished and slammed with guilt and humiliation for making a choice that should be entirely hers" (Kaleigh–Ann). Therefore, women shouldn't be punished and crucified by society for what they feel is in best interest of their body and health. Even if they were to take this choice away, you can't force them to see through a healthy pregnancy. At the end of the day it is the woman who makes these choices that must live with them and that shouldn't have to involve the opinions of the government or society. In addition, abortions due to birth defects are common but are still difficult on the mother. When a mother chooses to abort her baby because of birth defects is once she has searched for multiple second opinions from various doctors and has considered her options and risks. "It will help later to know you had the information verified by a specialist before proceeding" ("Considering Abortion due to Birth Defects"). As stated above whether a woman gets an abortion is her choice and is done after all options have been Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. An Argument Against Abortion Essay An Argument Against Abortion Abortion is a serious topic that people have been debating about for years. Everywhere you turn the topic of abortion presents itself, on TV, in the newspapers, in books and magazines. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. As long as abortion remains legal, pro–life advocates will continue to protest what they believe to be these horrible acts of murder. Dating all the way back to the 1800's, abortions have been taking place all over the world. In the US abortion laws were created around 1820 stating that women would not have abortions after already being pregnant for four months. Then by 1900 most abortions were outlawed. It wasn't until 1956 that all fifty states had...show more content... It has a genetic make up from the time of creation, therefore making it a living thing. It was argued that the fetus was just a mass of tissue that wasn't really alive, but it has been proven that it is indeed a human being. The concept fetus is used to denote the unborn human from the end of the eighth week after conception to the moment of birth, as distinguished from the earlier embryo (the product of conception from implantation in the uterus through the eighth week of development). A fetus contains all the organs and has the basic human form. (Rand) So when we take the life of a fetus, we are taking the life of another human being. Looking at abortion from a religious viewpoint, abortion is a mortal sin. Taking the life of a human being is the greatest sin a human can commit. If it is not acceptable to take the life of a 5 year old, an 18 year old, or a 50 year old, then why is it acceptable to take the life of a human who hasn't even had the chance to live yet? The point is it shouldn't be. Taking a life, no matter what the age is, is morally wrong. An unexpected pregnancy is no reason to abort the baby. If someone is mature enough to make the decision to have sex, they should be mature enough to do it properly, and if they do not, they should live with the consequences of their actions. The only way to totally prevent a pregnancy is to practice total abstinence, which is the only birth control that is 100%. Practicing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay Arguments for and Against Abortion Arguments for and Against Abortion An abortion is also known as a termination, meaning to terminate, to stop. An abortion is when you stop a pregnancy, by removing the foetus from the womb. Many people frown upon abortions, as they see them as the killing of a life. Other people believe that it is a 'potential' life, and that a foetus is not considered to be a child. Some people feel that in a situation where the prospective parents are told their unborn child may be disabled, an abortion is acceptable. The situation mostly frowned upon is abortion for social reasons e.g. the mother cannot afford to bring up the child, is too young to have a child, it is not the right time for having...show more content... The Lord gives and the Lord takes away." This quote shows that Christians believe that only God should decide who should live or die. It implies we should not choose our own deaths, or choose whether someone else should live or die, and that we only take our memories and things we have learnt when we die. This quote could be construed that Christian belief is against abortion. Abortion would deny a foetus the chance to experience life, and gain knowledge and memories. I believe that the quote has a valid opinion, but on the other hand, understand that people cannot always provide for a child, or may have a medical problem which could cause them harm is they went through with a pregnancy. They should be allowed the freedom to choose whether they want an abortion, but should only use this as a last resort. Careless pregnancies should not happen, as people should take more care, and use contraceptives. If what God says is right, and what he does sets a precedent, then why does he kill? In the story or Noah, God wiped out the whole world (except for a few people and animals), just because it did not please him that the world had turned out the way it did, as it was not what he had planned. In these actions, is God not doing the same thing as a woman might do when she has an abortion? She is terminating her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Arguments Against Abortion To really get into this argument we want to understand what abortion is. Abortion is outlined as "the termination of a gestation when, amid, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or foetus; particularly :the procedure of causing expulsion of a personality's fetus to terminate a pregnancy" (Merriam–Webster). However, if solely the controversy over theabortion issue was as straightforward because the definition provided higher than. very similar to each side of human life, a press release is neither right nor wrong, however merely left open for interpretation. there's no black and white in life, solely grey areas. Some problems tend to produce US additional grey areas than others. Abortion may be a prime example of that. World Health Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Arguments Against Abortion In our society today, abortion is a daily occurrence that is considered essential to society even though it is unconstitutional and immoral. The question is, how did America declare the murder of unborn babies legal when the cons clearly outweigh the pros? In America it is a felony to murder another human being, so how is it that babies are allowed to be killed before they are born? An article in the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health found that young women who undergo abortion are at an increased risk for depression. Another study from BBC Medicine found that women who have abortions were 154% more likely to commit suicide along with having significantly higher anxiety rates. Not only do abortions have dramatic affects on the mothers,...show more content... However, instead of using America's tax dollars on surgeries that commitmurder, the government should be spending the tax dollars on creating easier access to contraception, or making adoption costs cheaper. Others may say that it is better to abort the baby rather than put it up for adoption. This is an absurd argument due to the fact that adoption will provide the baby with a home and a family that they can grow up in, and feel welcome. It is true that adoption can sometimes seem like a bad option because of the way movies and television often depict it however, more often than not it is only the bad foster homes that are heard about on the news, movies or television shows. Rarely ever does the media portray a loving, caring home where children can be themselves, no matter how they got there. There is also the argument of fetuses with autism, or other "diseases". Many women say that they would rather have an abortion than have a child who has to live with autism or missing limbs, for example. The only problem with this argument is that everyone in life has adversity to overcome and by aborting a baby simply because of the way he /she will act or look is utterly ridiculous. No human being should be denied life based because of the way they look or the way they act or they way others will perceive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. An Argument Against Abortion Essay Abortion in America is a controversial issue in which both sides have valid arguments at face value. The pro–choice side has many arguments to support it belief in keeping abortion legal. Many of these are faulty, and argue points irrelevant to the issue as I will attempt to illustrate, thereby eliminating the main pro–choice arguments. The pro–life position has somewhat different ideas. The most popular of these is: The unborn entity is fully human from the moment of conception. Abortion results in the intentional death of the unborn entity. Therefore, abortion can be defined the intentional killing of a human being. This killing is in most cases unjustified, since the unborn human being has a...show more content... The reason this argument doesn't work is because it is begging the question. In fact, this lie hides behind a good percentage of the popular arguments for the pro–choice position. One begs the question when one assumes what one is trying to prove is correct. The question–begging of the coat–hanger argument is very obvious: but only by assuming that the unborn are not fully human does the argument work. If the unborn are not fully human, then the pro–choicer has a legitimate concern, just as one would have in overturning a law forbidding appendicitis operations if countless people were needlessly dying of both appendicitis and illegal operations. But if the unborn are fully human, this pro–choice argument is the same as saying that because people die or are harmed while killing other people, the state should make it safe for them to do so. Even some pro–choicers, who argue for their position in other ways, admit that the coat hanger/back–alley argument is crap. Although statistics cant establish a particular moral position, there has been arguments over both the actual number of illegal abortions and the number of women who died as a result of them before legalization. Prior to Roe vs Wade, pro–choicers used saying that nearly a million women every year obtained illegal abortions performed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Arguments Against Abortion "I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born," vocalized by former President Ronald Reagan. When the word abortion is articulated, an automatic opinion forms in a person's mind; he or she is either for this controversial issue or against it. However, there are those who believe that abortion should be used in only special circumstances. To begin, supporters of abortion are pro–choice. Supporters argue that it's a woman's right to have control over her own body and reproductive system and that women may seek out illegal and unsafe alternatives. Abortion dates back to 1550 B.C. by the Egyptians and was accepted in ancient Greece and Rome. No authority in religion or government limitation should impede on a woman's right to decide on whether to complete the pregnancy or terminate it. The argument of population control has also been recognized as a reason, along with the reduction of crime and that the fetus has no pain inflicted on it. In cases of rape or incest, the trauma the woman has experienced influences and increases the risk of abuse or abandonment. Abortion is considered, at large, a safe procedure with the types being surgical by suction...show more content... A woman should primarily take responsibility over her body and be attentive to the necessary precautions to decrease any displeasurable circumstances. Supporters state that personhood is present at conception, pain and suffering is being inflicted on the fetus during the procedure, and couples that are unable to conceive are delayed in the adoption process. The risk of future medical complications, such as ectopic pregnancies, doubles. The chance of pelvic inflammatory disease and a miscarriage also increases. Connecticut, in 1821, was the first state to criminalize the practice and New York following in 1824 by criminalizing any participation by the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Arguments Against Abortion The right to life is the most basic and important right that we have. In the past two hundred years, over one million Americans have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches have been delivered, honoring these American heroes. America is now engaged in a war where there are no heroes, no monuments or tributes – only victims. Our society has declared war on its most helpless members – our unborn children. Since that war was declared on January 22, 1973, there have been over 35 million deaths. Abortion is one of the most controversial and important subjects of this generation. Much has changed in 25 years. Back then...show more content... I guess not, as long as you are in the womb according this argument. Those unwanted children who have become criminals, while sad, certainly are not sentenced to death that easily and they still have the possibility of changing their lives. Allowing abortion because of the mere possibility of becoming a criminal would seem to mean it is permissible to use the death penalty for a lot more than just murder if taken to its logical and frightening conclusions. Abortion for this reason just takes us off the hook for showing love and concern to these unwanted children, but that would be more time consuming and difficult and not always successful and, quite frankly, just not as convenient for us. Assume that the practice of drinking milk was widely considered immoral and that the evilness of drinking milk was obvious to everyone, including children. What is the best way for a minority of milk drinkers to get their behavior accepted by the majority? The milk drinkers know that they cannot convince enough people to accept their position by direct argument alone. The only way to get immoral behavior accepted would be to change the definition of commonly understood words. For example, they might refer to milk as flavored water and to drink flavored water is not immoral. The pro–abortion activists have imposed this same Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Arguments Against Abortion In this life, as an individual everyone single person has a choice. The constitution states that we have plenty of rights. A major right, is the right to privacy. That being said, what we choose to do with our lives, is our choice. Granted, everyone will have an opinion on anything you do in your lifetime. People will judge you for what you do and even what you do not do. I say this to relate back to abortion of babies. This is a huge controversy going on in the world, actually worldwide. As I said before, we have a lot of rights for the United States as citizens. For example, the court case about Roe and Wade talks about privacy. The constitution states that the right to privacy is a broad enough aspect to encompass a woman's choice to either have an abortion or to keep the child. This was stated on January 22 of 1973 during the Roe and Wade case. I believe that there is always a choice in what you want to do...show more content... No matter what you do in this world, someone will always be judging you or going against you. This is happening a lot in this society. Women are being judged for aborting their babies. That being said, there is a lot of circumstances that these women go through when making these decisions. Think about if a women is raped by another man and wants to have an abortion. Would the people that are against abortion think it is still wrong? Possibly. Yet, if you were that women would you want to be raising a child that would remind you of that terrible memory? Instead of rape, let's say that you are a women who is homeless and has intercorse with another male. That women might not have enough money to support that child. One way she is unable to not provide for that child would be money. No clothes, no school and possibly no food. This is when it would be the better option to have an abortion instead of continuing to have that baby. Therefore, what if that women is spending her money on something else, such as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Arguments Against Abortion While world is advancing in every field, there are many people who talk against the legal status of abortions. There are many people who support lawfulness of abortions and there are many people who oppose them. After decades of women's struggle for the legal status for abortions till 1970's, people who are opposing abortions are still bringing this debate into public with their version of arguments. There may be personal or religious or emotional reasons to oppose the abortions. The meaning of abortion itself is stopping the unwanted pregnancy. Women would only choose for abortion when she cannot have a child for the particular time or period. Yes I believe that abortions should be a legally available choice for pregnant women because it is the basic women's right,...show more content... In the article "We're Not Sorry Charlie" by Jennifer Baumgargner says that "it's crucial to understand abortion rights in terms of women's most basic ability to live in freedom–or even to live, period". Most of the women choose for abortion only in unfavorable situations or medical reasons. Those reasons might be poor financial situation or improper age to have a child or abnormal embryo in the mother's womb or other. It is a women who is going bear all the pain and carry a child for 9 months in those unfavorable situations. It may cause severe mental trauma and may lose their self–confidence. Women must have the right to decide about their own body and life. Illegalizing abortions may create social problems such as orphans in the society. The number of unwanted children will increase. Those children might have a chance to get foster care only if they are lucky. In the movie "The Cider House Rules" we can notice the same situation. Only few children were able to get foster care but rest of the children remained in the orphanage without parental care. When they grow up, they may not know what to do with their lives. This will create great difficulties in their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Arguments For And Against Abortion Arguments for and Against Abortion The battle over whether to legalize or ban abortion in the United States has greatly increased in recent years; the moral, ethical and legal had been a continuous fight in our society. The abortion issue is also the most passionate and debatable in the United States to whether allow one to have free will over their body or have the government make that decision. Furthermore, it is one of the leading debates in political races. In this society everyone has a choice and they all have consequences. The choice for a woman to choose to have an abortion is solely her fundamental right. Contrary to pro–choice supporters, pro–life supporters argue that the fetus has more right to life than a woman's privacy right (Head, 2015). I believe that if anyone interferes with one's right to take any decisions about their own body is a violation of their rights, which makes me stand towards pro–choice for abortion. Pro Choice In the United States the two groups, mostly differ by gender and age. The middle–aged groups are equally split on the abortion issue, whereas 55 and older are mostly on the pro–life side. Individuals ages 18 to 34 lean mostly towards pro–choice for abortion. However, the greatest difference on these views is between the political groups, whereas Republicans are mostly pro–life, Democrats pro–choice and independents are in the middle (Saad, 2014). These issues revolving around abortion laws had been a problem for a long time. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Arguments Against Abortion Arguments against abortion: From pro–life point of view, our life begins at conception. Abortion is similar to murder as by abortion we are taking human life. Abortion does not fit with the idea of the purity of human life. There are no civilized societies that permits people intentionally harm the life of another human. An abortion can be injurious for women's health and can create serious medical complications later in life. In the case of rape and incest, if proper medical treatment can be ensured within time for women safety then woman will not get pregnant. By abortion, we kill the unborn child who is free from all bad works. Instead, we should punish the criminal. Abortion should not be interpreted as a form of contraception. Women can use contraception to minimize the risk of unwantedpregnancy who want to control their body. Most of the women who do abortions are often young women. They possess an insufficient life experience to understand what they are actually doing. Many of them have lifelong regrets afterward for killing their own child. Abortion also causes intense psychological pain and stress for the women. (Lowen, 2017) Arguments for abortion In most of the cases, women do abortions in their first trimester. On that time a fetus is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord to the mother. The condition of baby's health is dependent on her mother's health. A fetus cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb. From pro–choice Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Abortion is a concept that has been widely debated for years according to "Roe V. Wade' Turns 40, But Abortion Debate Is Even Older'', it is a argument that has been going on since the 1950's , but the big question is will the debate of whether abortion is pro choice or murder ever truly be over ? Using the articles "20 Key Arguments For and AgainstAbortion" and "Should Abortion Be Legal" I'll be analyzing the opinions of pro life and pro choice views of abortion written by different authors that share some different views of why they believe it is wrong or right. Linda Lowen the arthur of "20 Key Arguments For and Against Abortion" , used more opinion based facts in contrast to "Should Abortion Be Legal" but neither of the authors are prejudice to either side of the argument. The article ВЁShould Abortion Be Legal" uses a lot of surveys from universities and medical centers to back up there point of view on why abortion is pro choice. The pro life argument uses surveys from the same sources but they also use scriptures from the old testament and a statement in the hippocratic oath that doctors take forbidding abortion. They argue that abortion is helping...show more content... "Should Abortion Be Legal" and "20 Key Arguments For and Against Abortion" have the same opinions on the pro life subject but they have a argument that undermines each other in the first article they say abortions help taxpayers by deducting welfare but in this article they argue that abortions should not be paid for with taxpayers dollars. Other than that one argument this article resembles "Should Abortion Be Legal" uses majority of the same facts to argue this issue. But one of the biggest categories talked about in this article is that abortion is okay if rape or incest is the reason for pregnancy which is a reason a very strong argument that isn't talked about as much in the other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Arguments Against Abortion The issue with laws against abortion is that they are based on the individual's morality and religion, but laws are not meant to appease one's conscious, they are meant to uphold the rights of man. Every woman and man under the United States Constitution is granted civil liberties and when President Trump delivered his Executive order, it breached people's civil liberties by denying them access to healthcare. Whether abortion is morally correct, is up for debate, but a government should not be able to ban or defund such means for a woman to uphold her own civil liberties. When any President reinstates the "Mexico City Policy," he forces health providers to fire staff, reduce their services, or close their entire clinics. Prohibiting abortion...show more content... Should women abort their children? It's not a question as to if they should or should not, because it is happening. Despite whether an individual or the President thinks abortion is not okay, is irrelevant. Abortion is a prevalent issue not because it's legal but because people chose to abort. The government has no right to tell a woman whether or not to give birth, it abridges her civil liberties as a free American citizen, yet that is exactly what denying access to abortion amounts to. Sippel describes her opposition to the reinstatement of the "global gag rule" in her article, Silence on Abortion Equals Death. There she reminds the reader that it is not solely an end of taxpayers money going to abortion but it "pulls all global health assistance, including for programs that address infectious diseases like malaria, Zika and Ebola"(Sippel). As well as ending international funding, it restricts funding for clinics that provide contraceptives, pregnancy care, and sexual education. Proven by statistics from various surveys on abortion, although the intention of this Executive Order is to stop abortion, it does not; and while doing so, results in more casualties and birth defects. Due to lack of funding for non–profit healthcare organizations, such as Planned Parenthood, there is an increase in the risk of the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and unsafe abortions. Defunding abortion means "eliminat[ing] the clinics", clinics "which provide a host of other vital services to poor women around the world"(Kuntzman). It's not the act of abortion that is the issue, it's the lack of prevention to an ongoing problem that is the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Arguments Against Abortion Abortion in the United States has been and still remains one of the biggest and most controversial problems in American politics and culture. Many anti–abortion laws have been on the statue books of every state since around 1990. In 1937, abortion was forbidden, or banned, in thirty states and legal under very narrow circumstances in twenty other states. Their idea of "narrow circumstances" are pregnancies derived from rape or incest. In that same exact year, the Supreme Court abolished all these laws in Roe v. Wade. It also set some guidance for the availability of abortion. Roe entrenched that the right for a woman to obtain an abortion, in privacy, "must be considered against important state interest in regulation." • 17. Argument Against Abortion Abortion is widely controversial topic. Whether you are pro–life or pro–choice, it remains a sticky discussion and a hard subject to address. As a social worker we are thought to provide services despite what we may or may not believe. If you are a pro–life life activist, you're against abortion. You believe that no matter the circumstance, life is important at any stage. If you arepro–choice you believe that circumstances matter and a woman should always have a right to choose. It is my personal belief that life is important at any stage, however you should always have the power to choose and make your own decision based on your specific circumstance. I believe that it's the individual responsibility to choose their own destiny and not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Arguments Against Abortion Introduction Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately "53 million legal abortions were performed in the United States" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro–Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman's choice and a protected personal right "that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). However, Pro–Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of conception and thus an "abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides. Pro Choice Many contend that in attempting to delegalized abortions the government...show more content... Pro–Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of conception. Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from the child. A child can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Furthermore, a fetus does "feel pain during the abortion procedure" because by eight weeks the "most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Moreover, the psychological affects of an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). "A 2002 peer–reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal... found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Life supporters believe women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of contraception. If one becomes pregnant, one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the world. Thousands of families desire to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces "the number of adoptable babies" (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Lastly, "abortion promotes a culture in which human life is disposable" and it is acceptable to rid of a life that inconveniences you (Procon.org, 2015, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Arguments Against Abortion Americans still debate about whether or not abortion should be a legal option even long after the U.S. Supreme Court's 7–2 decision on Roe. v. Wade said that the procedure was a "fundamental right" on January 22, 1973. People who identify themselves as pro–life believe that personhood begins at conception and that abortion is the killing of a human being. I believe that the unborn child suffers during abortion and it is unfair to allow abortion when people who can't have their own babies are waiting to adopt. Abortion is murder. The killing of a human being is wrong even if that human has not been born yet. The U.S. government consider babies that have not been born to still be human beings. The Federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted "to protect unborn children from assault and murder," says that under federal law, anyone intentionally killing an unborn child should be punished....show more content... Unborn babies are human beings with a right to life. Jerome Lejeune, who is the French geneticist that had discovered the chromosome that causes down syndrome, says that "To accept the fact that after fertilization has taken place a new human has come into being is no longer a matter of taste or opinion... The human nature of the human being from conception to old age is not a metaphysical contention, it is plain experimental evidence." Abortion is the killing of a human being which goes against the word of God. In the bible there is no difference between fetuses and babies. In the bible, the Greek word brephos, refers to an unborn child as well as an infant, the Sixth Commandment of the Bible's Old Testament, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13), goes to all human beings and unborn babies. By the time a baby is conceived they are recognized by God, as said in Jeremiah 1:5: "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Arguments Against Abortion Essay In humanity today exits a covenant that when fertilization converts to human life, that the human being must be secure. Currently many individuals, societies and religions have ardently held incompatible beliefs about when human life originates. Is a child a human life at labor or even before, fetus a human life at beginning? Nowadays, this battle goes hand in hand with that question of abortion. Generating so much polemic over this delicate issue the congress has been debating over this issue for decades. This argument brings to the table yet another rigorous question, whether there should be a constitutional amendment banning abortion? As it is hard to believe it's nearly difficult to find someone who doesn't have an opinion about abortion and probably a solid opinion about the distress. Arguments on the topic of abortion tend to have no direction due to the diverse number on point of view towards such dilemma, leaving the foes more devoted to their...show more content... Having studied this topic before, I have looked at most aspects of both sides of the issue, and agree with many arguments equally. Even though it is not understood, relating both sides' views hold many agreements. Most would agree that the life of a child is a precious thing that deserves the full defense of the law. More would agree that it's a woman's private right to make decisions concerning her body. The main conflict that keeps the two sides from getting along is when thefetus becomes a child, because it now jumps to a position where if the woman decides to commit abortion will also be considered murder, and on the other hand concluding with birth will harm the child in other areas of his life. When it becomes down to deciding which side I am for, I would say I advocate in favor of pro–choice and stick to their views.
