Evaluate Own Learning Style
Learning style: My learning style is considered to be auditory and kinesthetic. Yes, I prefer
learning through listening and making notes at the same time. Being an auditory learner I
depend on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning. I also learn from experiments or
activity related to what I study in class. Personality: My personality acronym is ISTJ, The
inspector. I am comfortable working with small group because I haven't had good experiences
working in big groups. I do like socializing and working with different groups. I like planning stuff
and then doing it.I also prefer deadlines because they make me do work and submit it on time.
Interests: The Trailblazer. I am artistic. I always tend to first look at something fresh and

Individual Learning Styles Essay
Individual Learning Styles
The purpose of this research paper is to examine learning styles theories to determine if teaching
students to use their own particular learning style can help ail them in increased educational success.
The learning style aspect consists of six key areas including brain processing, sensory modalities,
physical needs, environmental preferences, social aspects, and attitudes. Besides the way a person
operates, there are two other important factors that play a key role in effecting a person?s learning
style. These important factors include each individuals learning patterns and a theory known as
multiple intelligences. Individual learning patterns are focused on four main types ES, IN, EN and

Now the student will have become a more effective learner, this will force the student to take
responsibility for unlearned and unprepared material by taking the blame off of the teachers and
placing it on the person at hand, the lazy student.
Depending on the student, each one has their own and unique learning style that effects not only
how they learn, but their concentration and the way in which they process the information given to
them. The concept of left and right brain dominance has a great impact on the effectiveness of each
students learning ability. And although age is an important factor concerning the way in which the
student is able to learn and retain the information, the following 6 ways in which the individual
operates pertain to students of all ages (Campbell, L., Campbell, B., 1999). Brain processing, or the
way in which the brain is able to take in and perceive the information is the first of the six, and is
important in understanding learning styles, this is where the left brain vs. right brain learning
concept takes place. It is important to understand both sides of the brain and their ability to reason,
however, they use different strategies and it may appear that one side is dominant to the other.
The left–brain is known as a successive processor, which simply means that students who dominate
in their left–brain learn step–by–step. These types of

Different Learning Styles
Students have different ways to learn. Some people are hands on learners or visual learners. Teachers
try to adapt the way they teach; to the way their students learn the best. The information that is being
taught should be made fun so that the students remember the information. Schools are also using new
technology to help students learn. Different learning styles have different effects on people.
Different learning styles are the talk of many school districts from near and far. The study of
different learning styles has gone back since the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. We all know
that people have different ways of learning, so teachers try to teach the way their...show more

What does learning style mean in general? Learning style is simply the different ways a person
perceives and process information. Knowing your learning style helps you to understand why you
look at certain things the way you do. It also helps you to figure out when and how to use your
learning style effectively as well as incorporating other learning styles as well. The way people
perceive information typically range from a concrete experience to an abstract experience. People
who perceive concrete information are more hands on versus the people who perceive abstract
information who are more of the people who take time to analyze and break down the situation. The
way people process information by active experiment prefer to jump in and...show more content...
It also helps to write down material that has been taught orally on paper because it is easier for me
to process what I have heard well if I see it on paper. I benefit from different handouts as well as
illustrations because it helps me to actually see a clear picture. I prefer to read alone, take notes and
do hands–on activities in class to help me better understand the material. I had discovered some
learning tips that have been helpful to increase my learning experience in other classes as well. In
math, I find it helpful to take a lot of notes as well as write down many examples. This helps me
because I can take a problem and find an example similar to the problem and figure out how to work
it out because I have something guiding me in the right direction. I also find that pictures can be
helpful as well because now I have a visual idea of how to better work a problem. In reading I find it
easier to record my lectures. I have to hear the topic over and over again as see it to get a clear
understanding of what it is asking me to do. Also pictures are very helpful as well because I am
able to see exactly what is going on. Since I have been in college I've had to change some of my
personal study habits to maintain good grades in school. I've learned to actually schedule study time
instead of just picking a random time to study. I find this helpful because I get more

From the standpoint of what is my learning style, I am definitely a tactile learner. For me to gain my
greatest ability to learn, I must use my hands to physically work through something. This process
allows me to build relationships between the content that I'm being taught and the outcomes that I
need to reach. The biggest challenge that I have experienced with my own learning is my struggle
with my reading skills. This challenge was not something that I met head on. Instead I found ways
to work around my issues with reading. Using my kinesthetic learning style, I was able to make up
for my poor reading ability. I have found that being able to apply something to what I am reading
allows me to form relationships and gain a better understanding of the subject matter I am trying to
learn. I feel success in my learning comes from being able to build an understanding of what I've
learned so I can apply it, or show relationship to how a given topic is important to myself or my
students lives.

Teaching And Learning Styles And Teaching Essay
'Pedagogy' is the term that is used to describe different practices of teaching and learning. Teaching
Australia (2008) defined pedagogy as 'the art and science of educating children, the strategies for
using teacher professional knowledge, skills and abilities in order to foster good learning outcomes'
(p.3). Teaching and learning is a two–way process. Teachers choose the effective instruction modes
to disseminate knowledge. Students adapt to different learning styles and use different learning
strategies to help them process the information. When teachers receive evaluations and feedbacks
from students, they revise, reconstruct and re–enact their teaching mode in order to match students'
learning styles. Teaching refers to different teaching approaches such as lecturing, practice drills,
directed questioning, discussion, constructivism and problem solving. Marsh, Clarke and Pittaway
(2015) mentioned that effective teachers are capable to use a wide range of instructional modes in
teaching that reflects their flexibility in their teaching. Learning refers to the strategies that children
used to assist their study and digest the new knowledge. Strategies to help learning are chunking,
story–grammar training, self–questioning, summarization, mnemonic images and concept mapping.
These methods are useful for the process of retention, which means the ways by which knowledge
is retained in our memory for later retrieval (Mclnerney, 2015a). The first section of the essay will

Learning Styles
The reason for doing this report is to try and discover which is my best and worst way to learn and
then to come up with a strategy for improving my ability to learn. The first thing that I need to do is
research what different learning styles there is, after I have done this I can determine what are my
preferred learning styles.
Types of Learning Styles After doing some research I have discovered that there are four main ways
of learning. For each of these four ways there is a continuum, this continuum determines which
particular style somebody may prefer.
The first continuum of learning is Active and Reflective, this style is to do with the way in which a
person may go about his/her learning. Active...show more content...
For three of the continuums I was biased towards one particular style, these are active, visual and
global. This would indicate that I learn best when I can get involved and try things out. It also
indicates that I absorb information best when it is presented visually in things such as diagrams,
tables, graphs etc. furthermore, the test showed is that I learn best if I get an overview of the
whole topic before I start concentrating on the smaller details. The final thing that this test points
out is that I?m neither sensing nor intuitive. Due to this I am able to learn the facts surrounding a
subject but I am also able to grasp theories and ideas. I absolutely agree with the results of this test
and would say it is a fair judgement on my learning preferences.
My Learning Style Weaknesses are? As discussed before the best learners have a balanced
learning style and therefore my greatest weakness is that I don?t have the ability to adapt my
learning style to all situations. Because of this I may miss out on some vital information because it
isn?t presented in a format that I am totally comfortable with. Even though I am a good learner
when I learn actively I don?t learn as well when there is nothing practical for me to take part in, in
order to re–enforce the things that I have learnt. I also find it difficult to absorb information when it
is not presented in a visual format. Another weakness of mine is that in

Teaching Learning Styles And Strategies Essay
ABSTRACT: The objective of an English teacher is to make the learners learn English successfully
and to enhance their communicative competence as this is the need of the hour. In the present
scenario the learners themselves are coming forward to learn English and they are actively
participating in the classroom activities. With little guidance of the teacher they attempt to become
the efficient scholars of English. So there is a complete shift from teacher oriented approach to a
learner centered approach. The learners tend to participate actively when the class is interesting. To
make the class more interesting the teacher selects the topics that interest them. Gradually this
approach changed to an interest oriented learner centered approach. In this process of learning the
language learners adopt their own methods and strategies depending on their styles of learning. They
select the more appropriate strategies to fit their learning styles. This paper focuses on the role of
learning styles and strategies in a language classroom.
It is the responsibility of the teacher to be aware of the learning styles of the learners so as to
make the learning teaching process an effective one. Moreover the learning style of one learner is
different from another learner. So the strategies they employ in learning a language also differ. For
example some of the learners prefer listening to lectures on language to writing or reading the
language. Some learners may be comfortable to read rather

Learning Styles : A Learning Style Assessment
A learning style is a term used to describe the ways in which people gather, interpret, and store
information. Each style can be broken down into a category based on sensory needs: auditory, visual,
and tactile. The presumption is that you will best retain the information presented to you if the
conditions of your learning style meet. Based on the idea that learning styles exist, I consider myself
a visual learner. I prefer to write instructions and keep my thoughts organized. I generate ideas based
on reading examples or watching instructional videos. As a child, my preferences were lined
primarily with auditory learning. I could easily remember things that spoken to me. As our
personalities develop and environment changes, so do our learning styles.
A learning style assessment is a good way to gather information about your primary learning style.
A series of questions are asked to determine your sensory preferences. Our learning environment
can play a role in how well we will retain the information given to us. We may use different
learning styles based on the situation. A learning style assessment offers a variety of scenarios to
assess the way you learn most of the time. The questions vary from the type of books you enjoy to
what you do while you wait in line at a store checkout. According to the assessment, my learning
style is 40% Auditory, 35% Visual, and 25% Tactile. As a primarily auditory learner, "you learn best
by hearing and listening" as well as "hum or talk

The way a person best retains information is considered to be their preferred learning style (Irvine
& York 1995). Knowing what learning style best fits with a student inside your classroom is
important. Being conscious of how a student best learns will help the teacher plan how to provide
the student with the knowledge that is needed to be learned in ways that best suits each student.
Knowing students' learning styles can help in many ways to enhance both learning and teaching.
Plenty of research has been done about how people learn and how the information is relayed to
them. In result of the research, different tools have been created to categorize these learning styles
and help people understand what style best fits them.

Finally, tactile/kinesthetic learners, are better at learning material by using their body. This child
will better understand material if they can touch it, and have hands–on activities (Bisson, 2002).
As a teacher, understanding and having information about how your students best learn material and
what their strengths and weaknesses are in the classroom will help insure that learning is taking
place. Unfortunately, there are students in our classrooms who are not learning materials teachers
are teaching; whether it is because the student finds the material difficult or it may be the way it is
being taught to them. The most important goal as a teacher is to make sure every student in your
classroom is learning and you are helping them be successful in education. As teachers we need to do
whatever we can to make sure each student comprehends our content. Educators need to know about
the different types of learners styles and be educated on what makes someone an auditory, visual or
a tactile/kinesthetic learner. Once you understand each style and before we can adjust our lesson
plans, we need to assess our students and determine who learns in what way the best.
In order to address learning styles, teachers must be able to determine what method of learning each
individual student prefers. Individual assessments are one way a teacher can look at these preferred
styles. Lederhouse (2003), a researcher who did a study on the factors

Abstract
Throughout life everyone learns. How we learn and whether we are able to retain and recall that
information is the problematic part. This paper will discuss the ways that we all are diverse and the
various ways we are most able to learn for long–term knowledge.
Most people know that everyone has different learning styles. The way we absorb, analyze, and
retain information is what makes each individual unique. What is successful for one individual may
not be the most optimal way of learning for someone else. Mr. Howard Gardner, Frames of Mind:
The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, suggested that there are eight different intelligences governing

Another type of intelligence is the verbal–linguistic. They are people who are usually very good
with grammar and remember terms and definitions easily. The best ways for a verbal–linguistic
person to study would be to outline chapters or teaching and reciting information out loud. Group
study may be beneficial to this person as well.
Musical–rhythmic intelligence would apply to people who are sensitive to tonal qualities and
understand the structure of music and rhythm. Learning with music in the background, or putting
rhythms to words to make recalling information easier, would be a study technique very useful for
this type of learner.
Have you ever looked at someone's notes that are all colored in, or highlighted, or there are charts
and graphs in the margins? If so, those notes would likely belong to a visual–spatial type
intelligence. In general, this person likes to draw, and can do so quite accurately when analyzing
the relationship of objects either by using graphs or mapping the process in his or her mind.
A logical–mathematical intelligence person would organize material logically when taking notes,
and would likely re–do them on the computer when they got home to keep them neat and organized.
Reasoning inductively and deductively in everyday life would help them recognize abstract patterns
and want to delve further into how things are connected and the

Teaching and Learning Styles
It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally,
ethnically or socially (Montgomery & Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in
the type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also
affects the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners.
(Gregorc, 1982) According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is "the more or less consistent way in
which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information." Therefore it is
extremely vital that teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is

These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the
individual themselves.
There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the
later grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier & Van Wyk, 2006) However by this
stage most learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn
by the style that best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of mixing
chemicals or gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information by means
of experiments and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be enough to
gain full understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students lecturing is the
best teaching method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time, space and
effectiveness. Yet lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not have the skills
to understand need more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and ability
influence the teaching style an educator may use when teaching particular content. (Lemmer, Meier
& Van Wyk, 2006)
In conclusion it is inevitable that learners bring to the classroom a great diversity of learning styles.
So as for a teacher it is difficult to please all styles simultaneously, but if you vary the

There are three types of learning styles. They are: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. An auditory

Kinesthetic learners process information by muscle movements and experiences that are hands–on.

strategy I should show great improvement in my test and quiz scores, as well as in all other
aspects of my classes. The second strategy I will try will be to add in some techniques from my
second strongest category, kinesthetic. In this strategy I will be using all of the techniques from my
first strategy, while adding manipulatives, walking and standing, and creating games. I will add
manipulatives such as making flashcards. This will enable me to keep my hands busy while I learn.
While studying the highlighted text and the rewritten text I will attempt to be standing or walking to
dismiss the distraction of being uncomfortable from sitting for too long. Games will be created to
make the studying more interesting. It will allow me to capture more of the information due to the

able to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of my studying, which will in turn show in higher
grades.

Essay on Learning about Learning Styles
A learning style is a way in which a learner begins to concentrate on, process, and retain new and
difficult information(Dunn & Dunn, 1987). A teacher cannot expect a student to listen to a story
and answer a series of questions then expect them to make a perfect score when the student learns
better by reading. Learning styles are simply deduced by how information is processed. Understand
one's individual learning style helps him or her by setting them up for success instead of setting
them up for failure.
Every human being learns in a different and unusual way. There are not any two people in the world

Those styles are visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic. To simplify the learning style into words that
are easier to comprehend and remember visual means to see, auditory means to hear and tactile
/kinesthetic means to touch. As humans, all of these or a combination of all three of these learning
styles, in a single person, is used on a daily basis. To better understand these learning styles, a brief
but thorough description is going to be provided.
Visual learners prefer to read and study in order to understand what they are learning. Visual learners
should take notes on what they read and should have a highlighter available to be able to highlight
information that would seem important to this learner. These learners seem to be better with graphs
and maps than the others learning styles. These learners also seem to have a more photogenic
memory. They can remember more things by what they saw when they were told certain information.
Visual learners have a harder time reading because when they read they have the habit of making
words into pictures. These individuals have a harder time talking on the telephone because talking
on the telephone takes away from the in person contact and eliminates the ability to see and process
the other person body language. Visual learners can remember information that was presented to
them as a child years later. Most of the

Different Learning Styles
Introduction
What is learning? According to the thesaurus in the Eric database, learning is the "process of
acquiring knowledge, attitudes, or skills from study, instruction, or experience" (Eric/Thesaurus
database, 2001). A learning style is described as "a set of factors, behaviors and attitudes that
facilitate learning for and individual in a given situation" (Reiff, 1992, p.7). There are many different
ways that children learn. The purpose of this paper is to explain the different learning styles that
students may possess and to discuss the importance of planning a lesson that includes different
techniques to meet the needs of individual learners. These different learning styles may include the

the other types of learners (WEAC, 2001).
Seer and Feelers
The second type of learner is the seer and feeler. These types of children learn best through
example. They like to touch and feel what they are doing. These children are very hands on. This
type of learner also asks many questions. They are curious about everything. This type of child
does not work well alone. They prefer to work in small groups that interact together to accomplish a
task. This type of child is also very empathetic (WEAC, 2001).
Leader of the Packs
The next type of learner would be described as the leader of the pack. These children are the
leaders in the classroom. They teach everyone by example. This type of learner enjoys being the
center of attention because it is what they do best. The leaders of the pack have a very good
speaking vocabulary and are great communicators. This type of child is physically active and very
popular. The problem with these learners is that they might have a hard time learning to read and
write (WEAC, 2001).

vocabulary remind you of an adult's. They speak logically and clearly. These children are very good

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Learning Styles
Introduction
The way that people go about gathering and interpreting information can be surprisingly different.
Research shows that people have different preferences and strengths in how they take in, and
process, information. These preferences are sometimes referred to as learning styles and are used to
describe and help us understand the different ways in which different people learn.
Some learners may be very receptive to visual forms of information such as pictures and diagrams,
whilst others prefer written and spoken explanations. Some people prefer to learn actively and
interactively, whilst others work better on their own.
The idea of learning styles usually refers to a preferred way of learning. It implies that each
individual has...show more content...
Teachers should also avoid the temptation to try to categorise or confine individual pupils to one
learning style. Age, educational level, and motivation influence each pupil's learning so that what
was once preferred may no longer be that pupil's current preferred learning style.
Nevertheless, greater awareness of learning preferences and styles helps teachers to be more
flexible in their teaching and to utilise a wider range of classroom methodologies. The aim is not
to match teaching style to learner preferences, but to help young people build their skills and
capacities to learn well in both preferred and less preferred modes of learning.
The main messages for teachers, schools and learners are as follows.
6.Do not place too much faith in any one learning styles theory. Most are not very robust or reliable.
A learning style should not be thought of as an absolute, nor should it be considered the main
determinant of intelligence, ability or

Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult
to pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them
to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of
how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis
of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have

Similarly, organization is a key element to my unique learning
style. After taking the "Personality Spectrum" (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2002) assessment, I have
become even more aware of my compatibility with structured learning environments. In class, I
need information to be presented in an easy but detailed fashion. I prefer outlines style formats
over summaries of information. It is also essential that I know what is expected with academics and
assignments. This knowledge insures confidence in my academic ability and allows me to set extra
goals when needed.      With respect to my stronger skills, there are
still underdeveloped areas of learning which I would like to improve on. Reading, for example, is
my biggest struggle. I have a significant amount of trouble remembering and comprehending what I
read. This has ultimately caused my lack of interest in this type of learning. I also struggle with

type of setting.      While my new found academic goals reflect my

I am going to discuss my preferred method of learning, also called a learning style. I believe that
people do prefer to learn in a certain manner, but are capable of learning in many styles rather than
just the one preferred. I used two different websites answering numerous questions, which gave me
some results showing which learning style I preferred. For the most part I agreed with the outcome,
but found some interesting, and contradicting information.
The first site I used gave me a numerical score from 1–20 for seven different learning styles. I scored
the highest in the solitary learning style that states I prefer to work alone, and dislike groups
(Advanology.com 2004). Yet coming in one point below the solitary style was...show more content...
I am looking at a second chance for a career in life now that I retired from the military, and with the
economy I felt it was so important to have as much education possible to compete in the work place.
Besides, who doesn't have room for improvement or the need to learn a few more things!
When it's my choice I prefer self–help books versus fairy tail fictions. I recently had an art class
where I struggled a bit at first because I'm not a theoretical person, but I went to my professor
who helped me find the facts in art, and turn them into my thoughts. I am a social person who
enjoys being around others, but I also very much need my alone time. Taking these questionnaires
and learning more about my preferred methods of learning really just solidified what I already
knew about myself. One thing I did learn from looking into my learning style is that even though
I don't prefer to learn in a logical manner, there are things I can do to help myself when I'm put in
a class with this type of learning. I have always said, "math is just not my subject", or "I'm bad at
math", but there are numerous websites and other courses I can take to improve in this area. So
where I stand on learning styles is that everyone prefers to learn in a certain way, but everyone can
learn in all different styles.

Learning Style Essay

  • 1. Evaluate Own Learning Style Learning style: My learning style is considered to be auditory and kinesthetic. Yes, I prefer learning through listening and making notes at the same time. Being an auditory learner I depend on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning. I also learn from experiments or activity related to what I study in class. Personality: My personality acronym is ISTJ, The inspector. I am comfortable working with small group because I haven't had good experiences working in big groups. I do like socializing and working with different groups. I like planning stuff and then doing it.I also prefer deadlines because they make me do work and submit it on time. Individual Learning Styles Essay Individual Learning Styles The purpose of this research paper is to examine learning styles theories to determine if teaching students to use their own particular learning style can help ail them in increased educational success. The learning style aspect consists of six key areas including brain processing, sensory modalities, physical needs, environmental preferences, social aspects, and attitudes. Besides the way a person operates, there are two other important factors that play a key role in effecting a person?s learning style. These important factors include each individuals learning patterns and a theory known as multiple intelligences. Individual learning patterns are focused on four main types ES, IN, EN and the IS. Depending on the student, each one has their own and unique learning style that effects not only how they learn, but their concentration and the way in which they process the information given to them. The concept of left and right brain dominance has a great impact on the effectiveness of each students learning ability. And although age is an important factor concerning the way in which the student is able to learn and retain the information, the following 6 ways in which the individual operates pertain to students of all ages (Campbell, L., Campbell, B., 1999). Brain processing, or the way in which the brain is able to take in and perceive the information is the first of the six, and is important in understanding learning styles, this is where the left brain vs. right brain learning concept takes place. It is important to understand both sides of the brain and their ability to reason, however, they use different strategies and it may appear that one side is dominant to the other. The left–brain is known as a successive processor, which simply means that students who dominate in their left–brain learn step–by–step. These types of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Teachers try to adapt the way they teach; to the way their students learn the best. The information that is being taught should be made fun so that the students remember the information. Schools are also using new technology to help students learn. Different learning styles have different effects on people. • 4. What does learning style mean in general? Learning style is simply the different ways a person perceives and process information. Knowing your learning style helps you to understand why you look at certain things the way you do. It also helps you to figure out when and how to use your learning style effectively as well as incorporating other learning styles as well. The way people perceive information typically range from a concrete experience to an abstract experience. People who perceive concrete information are more hands on versus the people who perceive abstract information who are more of the people who take time to analyze and break down the situation. The way people process information by active experiment prefer to jump in and...show more content... It also helps to write down material that has been taught orally on paper because it is easier for me to process what I have heard well if I see it on paper. I benefit from different handouts as well as illustrations because it helps me to actually see a clear picture. I prefer to read alone, take notes and do hands–on activities in class to help me better understand the material. I had discovered some learning tips that have been helpful to increase my learning experience in other classes as well. In math, I find it helpful to take a lot of notes as well as write down many examples. This helps me because I can take a problem and find an example similar to the problem and figure out how to work it out because I have something guiding me in the right direction. I also find that pictures can be helpful as well because now I have a visual idea of how to better work a problem. In reading I find it easier to record my lectures. I have to hear the topic over and over again as see it to get a clear understanding of what it is asking me to do. Also pictures are very helpful as well because I am able to see exactly what is going on. Since I have been in college I've had to change some of my personal study habits to maintain good grades in school. I've learned to actually schedule study time instead of just picking a random time to study. I find this helpful because I get more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. From the standpoint of what is my learning style, I am definitely a tactile learner. For me to gain my greatest ability to learn, I must use my hands to physically work through something. This process allows me to build relationships between the content that I'm being taught and the outcomes that I need to reach. The biggest challenge that I have experienced with my own learning is my struggle with my reading skills. This challenge was not something that I met head on. Instead I found ways to work around my issues with reading. Using my kinesthetic learning style, I was able to make up for my poor reading ability. I have found that being able to apply something to what I am reading allows me to form relationships and gain a better understanding of the subject matter I am trying to learn. I feel success in my learning comes from being able to build an understanding of what I've learned so I can apply it, or show relationship to how a given topic is important to myself or my students lives. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Saginaw Valley State University with a double major in history and special education, with an Emotional Impairment endorsement. I have currently started my 6th year as an educator. • 6. Teaching And Learning Styles And Teaching Essay 'Pedagogy' is the term that is used to describe different practices of teaching and learning. Teaching Australia (2008) defined pedagogy as 'the art and science of educating children, the strategies for using teacher professional knowledge, skills and abilities in order to foster good learning outcomes' (p.3). Teaching and learning is a two–way process. Teachers choose the effective instruction modes to disseminate knowledge. Students adapt to different learning styles and use different learning strategies to help them process the information. When teachers receive evaluations and feedbacks from students, they revise, reconstruct and re–enact their teaching mode in order to match students' learning styles. Teaching refers to different teaching approaches such as lecturing, practice drills, directed questioning, discussion, constructivism and problem solving. Marsh, Clarke and Pittaway (2015) mentioned that effective teachers are capable to use a wide range of instructional modes in teaching that reflects their flexibility in their teaching. Learning refers to the strategies that children used to assist their study and digest the new knowledge. Strategies to help learning are chunking, story–grammar training, self–questioning, summarization, mnemonic images and concept mapping. These methods are useful for the process of retention, which means the ways by which knowledge is retained in our memory for later retrieval (Mclnerney, 2015a). • 7. Essay about Learning Styles Learning Styles The reason for doing this report is to try and discover which is my best and worst way to learn and then to come up with a strategy for improving my ability to learn. The first thing that I need to do is research what different learning styles there is, after I have done this I can determine what are my preferred learning styles. Types of Learning Styles After doing some research I have discovered that there are four main ways of learning. For each of these four ways there is a continuum, this continuum determines which particular style somebody may prefer. The first continuum of learning is Active and Reflective, this style is to do with the way in which a person may go about his/her learning. Active...show more content... For three of the continuums I was biased towards one particular style, these are active, visual and global. This would indicate that I learn best when I can get involved and try things out. It also indicates that I absorb information best when it is presented visually in things such as diagrams, tables, graphs etc. furthermore, the test showed is that I learn best if I get an overview of the whole topic before I start concentrating on the smaller details. The final thing that this test points out is that I?m neither sensing nor intuitive. Due to this I am able to learn the facts surrounding a subject but I am also able to grasp theories and ideas. I absolutely agree with the results of this test and would say it is a fair judgement on my learning preferences. My Learning Style Weaknesses are? As discussed before the best learners have a balanced learning style and therefore my greatest weakness is that I don?t have the ability to adapt my learning style to all situations. Because of this I may miss out on some vital information because it isn?t presented in a format that I am totally comfortable with. Even though I am a good learner when I learn actively I don?t learn as well when there is nothing practical for me to take part in, in order to re–enforce the things that I have learnt. I also find it difficult to absorb information when it is not presented in a visual format. Another weakness of mine is that in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Teaching Learning Styles And Strategies Essay ABSTRACT: The objective of an English teacher is to make the learners learn English successfully and to enhance their communicative competence as this is the need of the hour. In the present scenario the learners themselves are coming forward to learn English and they are actively participating in the classroom activities. With little guidance of the teacher they attempt to become the efficient scholars of English. So there is a complete shift from teacher oriented approach to a learner centered approach. The learners tend to participate actively when the class is interesting. To make the class more interesting the teacher selects the topics that interest them. Gradually this approach changed to an interest oriented learner centered approach. In this process of learning the language learners adopt their own methods and strategies depending on their styles of learning. They select the more appropriate strategies to fit their learning styles. This paper focuses on the role of learning styles and strategies in a language classroom. It is the responsibility of the teacher to be aware of the learning styles of the learners so as to make the learning teaching process an effective one. Moreover the learning style of one learner is different from another learner. So the strategies they employ in learning a language also differ. For example some of the learners prefer listening to lectures on language to writing or reading the language. Some learners may be comfortable to read rather Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Learning Styles : A Learning Style Assessment A learning style is a term used to describe the ways in which people gather, interpret, and store information. Each style can be broken down into a category based on sensory needs: auditory, visual, and tactile. The presumption is that you will best retain the information presented to you if the conditions of your learning style meet. Based on the idea that learning styles exist, I consider myself a visual learner. I prefer to write instructions and keep my thoughts organized. I generate ideas based on reading examples or watching instructional videos. As a child, my preferences were lined primarily with auditory learning. I could easily remember things that spoken to me. As our personalities develop and environment changes, so do our learning styles. A learning style assessment is a good way to gather information about your primary learning style. A series of questions are asked to determine your sensory preferences. Our learning environment can play a role in how well we will retain the information given to us. We may use different learning styles based on the situation. A learning style assessment offers a variety of scenarios to assess the way you learn most of the time. The questions vary from the type of books you enjoy to what you do while you wait in line at a store checkout. According to the assessment, my learning style is 40% Auditory, 35% Visual, and 25% Tactile. As a primarily auditory learner, "you learn best by hearing and listening" as well as "hum or talk Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Diverse Learning Styles Essay The way a person best retains information is considered to be their preferred learning style (Irvine & York 1995). Knowing what learning style best fits with a student inside your classroom is important. Being conscious of how a student best learns will help the teacher plan how to provide the student with the knowledge that is needed to be learned in ways that best suits each student. Knowing students' learning styles can help in many ways to enhance both learning and teaching. Plenty of research has been done about how people learn and how the information is relayed to them. In result of the research, different tools have been created to categorize these learning styles and help people understand what style best fits them. There are...show more content... Finally, tactile/kinesthetic learners, are better at learning material by using their body. This child will better understand material if they can touch it, and have hands–on activities (Bisson, 2002). As a teacher, understanding and having information about how your students best learn material and what their strengths and weaknesses are in the classroom will help insure that learning is taking place. Unfortunately, there are students in our classrooms who are not learning materials teachers are teaching; whether it is because the student finds the material difficult or it may be the way it is being taught to them. The most important goal as a teacher is to make sure every student in your classroom is learning and you are helping them be successful in education. As teachers we need to do whatever we can to make sure each student comprehends our content. Educators need to know about the different types of learners styles and be educated on what makes someone an auditory, visual or a tactile/kinesthetic learner. Once you understand each style and before we can adjust our lesson plans, we need to assess our students and determine who learns in what way the best. In order to address learning styles, teachers must be able to determine what method of learning each individual student prefers. Individual assessments are one way a teacher can look at these preferred styles. Lederhouse (2003), a researcher who did a study on the factors Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This paper will discuss the ways that we all are diverse and the various ways we are most able to learn for long–term knowledge. Most people know that everyone has different learning styles. The way we absorb, analyze, and retain information is what makes each individual unique. What is successful for one individual may not be the most optimal way of learning for someone else. Musical–rhythmic intelligence would apply to people who are sensitive to tonal qualities and understand the structure of music and rhythm. Learning with music in the background, or putting rhythms to words to make recalling information easier, would be a study technique very useful for this type of learner. Have you ever looked at someone's notes that are all colored in, or highlighted, or there are charts and graphs in the margins? If so, those notes would likely belong to a visual–spatial type intelligence. In general, this person likes to draw, and can do so quite accurately when analyzing the relationship of objects either by using graphs or mapping the process in his or her mind. A logical–mathematical intelligence person would organize material logically when taking notes, and would likely re–do them on the computer when they got home to keep them neat and organized. They also tend to be fascinated in the arts and often have humanities or liberal arts backgrounds. Counselors, organizational development specialists, and human resource managers have exhibited this learning style. (casa colorado teaching seminar Kolb Learning Style Inventory Info pdf website, 2008) Therefore, I think these two learning styles fit me like a glove. Reflecting on my professional history of twenty years managing people in a variety of different environments an situations, have called for these learning styles to be used. Even though I did not know I was actively using these learning styles, I can now see where they played a big part in my success in my career. I have always needed to think on my feet and adapt to changing environments to please customers and employees alike. Another example of where I have successfully used these learning styles in my organization, drawing, and creativity in how I would handle new unexpected situation at home and work. Furthermore, according to these inventories, I have concluded that I am an audio and visual learner. This is apparent in both the ways I learn and teach. • 13. Teaching and Learning Styles It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally, ethnically or socially (Montgomery & Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in the type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also affects the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners. (Gregorc, 1982) According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is "the more or less consistent way in which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information." Therefore it is extremely vital that teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is able to gain full knowledge of content taught and are...show more content... These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the individual themselves. There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the later grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier & Van Wyk, 2006) However by this stage most learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn by the style that best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of mixing chemicals or gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information by means of experiments and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be enough to gain full understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students lecturing is the best teaching method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time, space and effectiveness. Yet lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not have the skills to understand need more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and ability influence the teaching style an educator may use when teaching particular content. (Lemmer, Meier & Van Wyk, 2006) In conclusion it is inevitable that learners bring to the classroom a great diversity of learning styles. So as for a teacher it is difficult to please all styles simultaneously, but if you vary the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Learning Styles Essay Adjusting learning and studying strategies can be a fast easy way to improve a college grade from a B to an A. Through studies of learning styles I have been able to decipher my learning types. I am a visual learner, have an integrated brain, meaning I use both hemispheres, and ranked highest in bodily–kinesthetic and logic–mathematical intelligence. There are three types of learning styles. They are: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. An auditory learner processes information by hearing and discussing the information. Visual learners process information through visuals such as charts, pictures, and other types of printed information. Kinesthetic learners process information by muscle movements and experiences that are hands–on. ...show more content... Writing what I highlight down in my handwriting will give me an additional time of going over the important information. Also, it will sink in more because it is generally easier to visually remember ones own written text rather than printed text. By implementing this new, more in–depth study strategy I should show great improvement in my test and quiz scores, as well as in all other aspects of my classes. The second strategy I will try will be to add in some techniques from my second strongest category, kinesthetic. In this strategy I will be using all of the techniques from my first strategy, while adding manipulatives, walking and standing, and creating games. I will add manipulatives such as making flashcards. This will enable me to keep my hands busy while I learn. While studying the highlighted text and the rewritten text I will attempt to be standing or walking to dismiss the distraction of being uncomfortable from sitting for too long. Games will be created to make the studying more interesting. It will allow me to capture more of the information due to the use of a different studying technique. By experimenting with these different techniques I will be able to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of my studying, which will in turn show in higher grades. The brain dominance theory identifies specific functions of the left and right hemisphere of the brain. The test showed that I didn't have dominant hemisphere as I scored a 6. • 15. Essay on Learning about Learning Styles A learning style is a way in which a learner begins to concentrate on, process, and retain new and difficult information(Dunn & Dunn, 1987). A teacher cannot expect a student to listen to a story and answer a series of questions then expect them to make a perfect score when the student learns better by reading. Learning styles are simply deduced by how information is processed. Understand one's individual learning style helps him or her by setting them up for success instead of setting them up for failure. Every human being learns in a different and unusual way. There are not any two people in the world that learns the same way. Some people learn through working with their hands, some learn through what they see and can process and...show more content... Those styles are visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic. To simplify the learning style into words that are easier to comprehend and remember visual means to see, auditory means to hear and tactile /kinesthetic means to touch. As humans, all of these or a combination of all three of these learning styles, in a single person, is used on a daily basis. To better understand these learning styles, a brief but thorough description is going to be provided. Visual learners prefer to read and study in order to understand what they are learning. Visual learners should take notes on what they read and should have a highlighter available to be able to highlight information that would seem important to this learner. These learners seem to be better with graphs and maps than the others learning styles. These learners also seem to have a more photogenic memory. They can remember more things by what they saw when they were told certain information. Visual learners have a harder time reading because when they read they have the habit of making words into pictures. These individuals have a harder time talking on the telephone because talking on the telephone takes away from the in person contact and eliminates the ability to see and process the other person body language. Visual learners can remember information that was presented to them as a child years later. Most of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Incorporated in this I will discuss theories of 'learning styles', comparing and contrasting them and try to identify aspects which can impact upon my practice. I will analyse my own teaching style and that of others to see how the theories can be applied and also assess my own success in meeting the needs of the students. 1.1 Why? The information provided in this assignment will allow me a better understanding of the variety of ways a student can learn. Learning styles theories impact education through the curriculum, instruction and assessment. The curriculum must place emphasis on intuition, feeling, sensing, and imagination, in addition to the traditional skills of analysis, reason, and sequential problem solving. In the instruction, teachers should design their instruction methods to connect with all four learning styles, using various combinations of experience, reflection, conceptualization, and experimentation. Finally, in assessment teachers should employ a variety of assessment techniques, focusing on the development of "whole brain" capacity and each of the different learning styles (http://www.funderstanding.com/content/learning–styles) Learning theories have been grouped into five clusters: 4.1 Behaviourism learning theory Behaviourism is a view that operates on a principle of "stimulus–response.", in other words all behaviour is in some way Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay about Different Learning Styles Different Learning Styles Introduction What is learning? According to the thesaurus in the Eric database, learning is the "process of acquiring knowledge, attitudes, or skills from study, instruction, or experience" (Eric/Thesaurus database, 2001). A learning style is described as "a set of factors, behaviors and attitudes that facilitate learning for and individual in a given situation" (Reiff, 1992, p.7). There are many different ways that children learn. The purpose of this paper is to explain the different learning styles that students may possess and to discuss the importance of planning a lesson that includes different techniques to meet the needs of individual learners. These types of children learn best through example. They like to touch and feel what they are doing. These children are very hands on. This type of learner also asks many questions. They are curious about everything. This type of child does not work well alone. They prefer to work in small groups that interact together to accomplish a task. This type of child is also very empathetic (WEAC, 2001). Leader of the Packs The next type of learner would be described as the leader of the pack. These children are the leaders in the classroom. They teach everyone by example. This type of learner enjoys being the center of attention because it is what they do best. The leaders of the pack have a very good speaking vocabulary and are great communicators. This type of child is physically active and very popular. The problem with these learners is that they might have a hard time learning to read and write (WEAC, 2001). Verbal Gymnasts Then, we have the verbal gymnasts. These children will talk you ear off. Their speech and vocabulary remind you of an adult's. They speak logically and clearly. These children are very good at communicating with their friends and the adults that surround

  • 19. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Learning Styles Introduction The way that people go about gathering and interpreting information can be surprisingly different. Research shows that people have different preferences and strengths in how they take in, and process, information. These preferences are sometimes referred to as learning styles and are used to describe and help us understand the different ways in which different people learn. Some learners may be very receptive to visual forms of information such as pictures and diagrams, whilst others prefer written and spoken explanations. Some people prefer to learn actively and interactively, whilst others work better on their own. The idea of learning styles usually refers to a preferred way of learning. It implies that each individual has...show more content... Teachers should also avoid the temptation to try to categorise or confine individual pupils to one learning style. Age, educational level, and motivation influence each pupil's learning so that what was once preferred may no longer be that pupil's current preferred learning style. Nevertheless, greater awareness of learning preferences and styles helps teachers to be more flexible in their teaching and to utilise a wider range of classroom methodologies. The aim is not to match teaching style to learner preferences, but to help young people build their skills and capacities to learn well in both preferred and less preferred modes of learning. The main messages for teachers, schools and learners are as follows. 6.Do not place too much faith in any one learning styles theory. Most are not very robust or reliable. A learning style should not be thought of as an absolute, nor should it be considered the main determinant of intelligence, ability or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Personal Learning Styles Essay Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult to pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time management and study skills.      From a very young age, writing has been a passion of mine. Through writing I have developed an...show more content... Working in a group setting was completely undesirable for me; as I would much rather work on my own. With an introverted personality, I understand my need for independent thinking. I am only able to concentrate in quite, personalized settings because of easy distractions.      Similarly, organization is a key element to my unique learning style. After taking the "Personality Spectrum" (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2002) assessment, I have become even more aware of my compatibility with structured learning environments. In class, I need information to be presented in an easy but detailed fashion. I prefer outlines style formats over summaries of information. It is also essential that I know what is expected with academics and assignments. This knowledge insures confidence in my academic ability and allows me to set extra goals when needed.      With respect to my stronger skills, there are still underdeveloped areas of learning which I would like to improve on. Reading, for example, is my biggest struggle. I have a significant amount of trouble remembering and comprehending what I read. This has ultimately caused my lack of interest in this type of learning. I also struggle with lecture style environments, which is again due to my deficient ability to retain information in this type of setting.      While my new found academic goals reflect my desire for personal achievement, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Learning Style Essay I am going to discuss my preferred method of learning, also called a learning style. I believe that people do prefer to learn in a certain manner, but are capable of learning in many styles rather than just the one preferred. I used two different websites answering numerous questions, which gave me some results showing which learning style I preferred. For the most part I agreed with the outcome, but found some interesting, and contradicting information. The first site I used gave me a numerical score from 1–20 for seven different learning styles. I scored the highest in the solitary learning style that states I prefer to work alone, and dislike groups (Advanology.com 2004). Yet coming in one point below the solitary style was...show more content... Besides, who doesn't have room for improvement or the need to learn a few more things! When it's my choice I prefer self–help books versus fairy tail fictions. I recently had an art class where I struggled a bit at first because I'm not a theoretical person, but I went to my professor who helped me find the facts in art, and turn them into my thoughts. I am a social person who enjoys being around others, but I also very much need my alone time. Taking these questionnaires and learning more about my preferred methods of learning really just solidified what I already knew about myself. One thing I did learn from looking into my learning style is that even though I don't prefer to learn in a logical manner, there are things I can do to help myself when I'm put in a class with this type of learning. I have always said, "math is just not my subject", or "I'm bad at math", but there are numerous websites and other courses I can take to improve in this area.
