2. Luke 10:25-37 And behold, a certain lawyer stood
up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do
to inherit eternal life?" (26) He said to him, "What is
written in the law? What is your reading of it?" (27)
So he answered and said, "'You shall love the LORD
your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with
all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your
neighbor as yourself.' " (28) And He said to him,
"You have answered rightly; do this and you will
live." (29) But he, wanting to justify himself, said to
Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" (30) Then Jesus
answered and said: "A certain man went down from
Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who
stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and
departed, leaving him half dead. (31) Now by chance
a certain priest came down that road. And when he
saw him, he passed by on the other side. >>>
3. (32) Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place,
came and looked, and passed by on the other side.
(33) But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came
where he was. And when he saw him, he had
compassion. (34) So he went to him and bandaged
his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him
on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took
care of him. (35) On the next day, when he departed,
he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper,
and said to him, 'Take care of him; and whatever
more you spend, when I come again, I will repay
you.' (36) So which of these three do you think was
neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" (37)
And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then
Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
5. JESUS’ COMPASSION
A. Matthew 14:14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great
multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them,
and healed their sick.
B. Matthew 20:34 So Jesus had compassion and touched
their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and
they followed Him.
C. Mark 1:41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched
out His hand and touched him, and said to him, "I am
willing; be cleansed."
D. Mark 6:34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great
multitude and was moved with compassion for them,
because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So
He began to teach them many things.
E. Luke 7:13-14 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion
on her and said to her, "Do not weep." 14 Then He came
and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him
stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."
6. JESUS’ COMPASSION
F. The story of The Good Samaritan in
Luke 10 is very touching and
sobering: full of reality and truth and
lessons for each of us.
G.Notice the lessons we can learn.
7. I.Christ-like compassion SEES
(v.33). But a certain Samaritan, as he
journeyed, came where he was. And
when he saw him...
A. Do you see those around you who
are suffering?
B. Or do you turn away and pretend
not to see?
8. II. Christ-like compassion FEELS
(v.33). But a certain Samaritan, as he
journeyed, came where he was. And
when he saw him, he had compassion.
A. Are you touched by the suffering
you see?
B. Or have you calloused yourself from
feeling compassion?
9. III. Christ–like compassion ACTS
(v.34). So he went to him and bandaged
his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and
he set him on his own animal, brought
him to an inn, and took care of him.
A. Do you act upon the compassion
you feel?
B. Or do you think, oh well, someone
else will help them?
10. IV. Christ-like compassion COSTS
(v.35). On the next day, when he departed,
he took out two denarii, gave them to the
innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of
him; and whatever more you spend, when I
come again, I will repay you.'
A. Are you willing to pay the cost that
compassion demands?
B. Or do you tell yourself that it’s their
own fault and you have better ways to
spend your money?
11. V. Christ-like compassion LEARNS
(vs.36-37a). So which of these three do
you think was neighbor to him who fell
among the thieves?" (37a) And he said,
"He who showed mercy on him…"
A. Have you learned the lessons of
compassion from this story?
B. Are you willing to start practicing it
in your life?
12. YOUR COMPASSION
A.Most parables have one main point
that is called the “end stress.”

C.Jesus concludes: (37b) “Go and do
likewise!”
