1. In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
My school magazine is recognisable as a media magazine in many ways; I
have included codes and conventions like advertising, price, title, date,
coverlines describing the contents of the magazine. The context is different
to gossip and celebrity magazines as it contains educational information. It is
similar to other Sixth Form magazines as its mode of address and tone is
friendly and appealing to a specific age range.
2. How does you media product represent particular social groups?
My media product represents a Sixth Form magazine as the content is
age friendly, speaking to the audience in a way as to involve the reader
as they will be in the age range of 16-18.
The social group it will attract is students that attend Archbishop Ilsley
Sixth Form as the images that I have used are of past school trips and
upcoming events .
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
The instititution that would be the producer and distributer of my media product
would be the college that I have produced it for, as it would be specific to the
certain group of students that attend the school Sixth Form. This is because of
the information and images that it contains; these will only really be relevant to
them and their education. The magazines seeks to give them information
about up coming events and activities that are going on in school and the dates
on which they are happening.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The magazine was produced for the students at Archbishop Ilsley
college. It will contain information on what is happening within the
college and thus the content would interest people of the age range
between 16-18.
As it is a college magazine, it is important to make the magazine specific
to the age range by it containing information that is relevant to them.
Informal text is used to an extent that is necessary as it would be
inappropriate to speak formally and use specif
ic terminology as the majority will not be able to relate to it.I am going to
make the magazine humours and full of images as magazines are meant
to be fun.
5. How do you attract/address your audience?
I have tried to attract the magazine audience by adding images that would
be of interest to them showing things that would benefit them and their
education, as I am a 6th form student myself have an incite on what it is
that interests the students.
Using short snappy slogans help to draw the audience in and encourages
people to buy it.
Humour is a big part of the magazine being able to interact with the
audience and giving them information and knowledge that they can relate
to offering needed support about things that are happing within the college
whether it be exams or revision advice.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing
this product?
I have learnt a number of things while producing my preliminary task as I have
had to use many different skills and computer programmes that I haven’t used
before.
Using excel to create my magazine cover and content page I have learnt how
to add a background and made my own house style that will be used
throughout the magazine making process.
I have also used the fireworks programme to crop and edit picture for my front
cover.
