This document outlines a media studies lesson on the key topic of what media studies is and different media areas. It includes definitions of media studies, lists five common media areas of television, newspaper/magazines, radio, music and film. It then has students research and record three key facts about the history of television, radio, the internet and newspapers. The lesson concludes with a student self-evaluation of their effort and progress, and what they could improve.

Main Task 1 - Answer the following questions
1. What is media studies? Write a short definition.
Media studies is the study of different ways to communicate
with large amounts of people using technology.
2. Write down between three and five different ‘media areas’.
Television, Newspaper and magazines, Radio, Music and film
are five different media areas.
3. Write down the four expectations for Media Studies lessons
To follow the Academy’s rules and expectations, monitors
must be off when not in use, you must be silent and listening
when the teacher is talking and put in maximum effort at all
times in lessons are the four expectations.
