2. Over the course of Lori’s career, spanning nearly three decades, Lori Fagien
has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative forces of creative
marketing within the music and publishing entertainment, film, preventive health
and wellness industries including theme cruises and DOOH.
3. Lori Fagien graduated from the University of Florida in 1982 with a BS Degree in
Marketing and Advertising. Upon graduation, She began working as a Physician’s
Assistant in the Department of Nephrology at University of Florida. In the Summer of
1983, she began her career at GE Battery Division in Communications/Marketing.
Within that year, Lori left to become the General Manager and Media Director for
Carlson & Associates Advertising. An agency specializing in health and fitness. She
negotiated contracts with media, researched markets, did the majority of media
planning and buying within print and broadcast. Additionally as an administrator, Lori
managed a staff of 30. Lori ran the day to day operations inclusive of payroll,
receivables/payables, and preparing monthly financial statements for their CPA.
Clients included Gainesville Health and Fitness, Nautilus, Spa Lady and other fitness
centers around the country.
4. While at Carlson & Associates, Lori Fagien clearly established
herself as someone who thought “outside the box” long before it was a catch
phrase and implemented numerous marketing programs successfully.
The phenomenal growth and success at JAZZIZ Magazine, led Lori to leave
Carlson & Associates in 1984. JAZZIZ initial launch in the Fall of 1983, quickly
opened the door creating other titles like Play Magazine and Music.com. Great
Taste cookbooks quickly followed. Lori Fagien continued to use her unique
marketing concepts leading to gross revenues in excess of 6 million annually.
JAZZIZ quickly became the leading publication within it’s three year launch in
1983. JAZZIZ not only became the publication of choice over Jazz Times and
Downbeat, but it established itself as a new industry marketing model.
5. Lori was the first publisher creating themed issues, such
as the annual women in jazz, keyboards, love, education,
and strings to name a few. One of the highlights was her
development of increasing jazz sales in June. To this day
Jazz in June is used to promote artist releases to educate
consumer about jazz music through numerous jazz
festivals in the US and around the world.
Unique marketing programs delivered from inception
through delivery, proved jazz sales could more than
double due to Lori’s gorilla marketing efforts. The
success was staggering!
6. Lori Fagien created new merchandise increasing revenue
sales through key chains, mints, caps, ties, and visors. The
uniqueness of the JAZZIZ brand lead to the creation of
men’s ties and boxer shorts with a strategic affiliation with
designer Nicole Miller.
Lori Fagien worked with other publishing companies creating
custom book deals for guitarists with Cherry Lane Publishing.

7. Lori has produced themed cookbooks called Great Taste. Each book includes
100 recipes along with a full length audio CD. The titles were launched in 1996 as a
series. Valley Entertainment was the distributor.
Lori created extraordinary and unprecedented events for retailers never
accomplished by other magazines within the music genre. The concept included a
successful Summer tour with jazz artists coinciding with their performances at 26
Macy’s locations. Within those stores, in the men’s departments, these jazz artists
walked the runways in a fashion show, each artist provided a mini-musical
performance, signed CDs and JAZZIZ magazines. The publication along with its
companion CD were given away to all attendees. Additional copies of JAZZIZ and
the companion CD were given away during the month of June and July to customers
who purchased $100 or more in the Macy’s men’s Dept. Those same artists were
also photographed by Macy’s. Not only were the 10 pages featured in the Fall issue
of JAZZIZ 15th Anniversary issue, but the same 10 pages were included and featured
exclusively in Macy’s Fall catalogue distributed to millions of their credit card holders.
8. REVIEWS – 5 stars! * * * * * February 13, 2009
By Eric Flescher dreric1kansas@aol.com
I bought this book in 1998. Somehow it has escaped detection in
my massive collection. It has some great recipes, selected from
ones that the couple/ authors have enjoyed throughout two
decades. Simple to make recipes with easy to find ingredients,
these recipes can provide an extra little spark to meals . dinners
and perhaps more. The hors d'oevres, main entrees. side dishes
and desserts are not in themselves are not that extraordinary.
However included in this book, one can find some interesting
romantic meals and that's the name of the game. Some of these
include a variety of tasty and stimulating recipes that are fun and
interesting. Examples are salmon in scallion broth, wasabi
marinated strip steaks, spicy greens with garlic and ginger, mixed
berry cobbler, acorn squash rings. I haven't tried them yet but I
will.
9. Lori created events for clients such as Sony, Panasonic, Technics, Acoustic Research, Yamaha,
Cadillac, Mercedes, and Steinway & Sons. In celebration of a custom issue on pianists and
keyboardists along with the companion CD. JAZZIZ and Steinway & Sons promoted this special
issue by having several of the jazz artists who were featured in that issue perform live at
Steinway Hall, their flagship store on 57th Street in NYC. More than 300 industry executives and
media attended celebrating JAZZIZ Magazine’s licensing deal with Warner Music Enterprises
(1994-1996) a division of the Time Warner company and co-branding opportunity with Steinway.
Lori Fagien created co-branding opportunities with coffee companies like Barnies Coffee and Tea
company, creating the JAZZIZ Blend coffee. The blend was sold at all Barnies Coffee and Tea
locations. Thousands of additional copies of JAZZIZ Magazine was distributed as a premium
giveaway to customers who purchased a pound of the JAZZIZ blend. The JAZZIZ blend was
sold for over 3 years as their number 1 blended coffee.
10. After two decades of successfully running JAZZIZ Magazine and other media titles,
Lori and Michael Fagien partnered with music jazz legend Lee Ritenour and well-
known music executive Mark Wexler forming a boutique record label called i.e. Music.
i.e. Music immediately landed a P&D deal with Universal Music Group. Within the
same decade, Lori and Michael Fagien partnered with restauranteur legend Burt
Rapaport and launched JAZZIZ Bistro and Live Music in 2004 located at the Seminole
Hard Rock Entertainment Complex.

breathless. I’ve know her for a while, I won’t say how long but just about the time her magazine Jazz-iz
came to market and I seen her work tirelessly to build it into a formidable force. It’s tough to build
something in a niche and sustain it for so long while keeping it credible and not deviate from the core
value. Great job Lori, it’s always fun working with you because we know you will get the job done and
done right….whatever it is.”
