December 31st is not a public holiday, most people go to work but they leave earlier than usual.

them of old and new friends.
They count the seconds down (5,4,3,2,1...!) to the New Year and at 12 they hug, kiss and wish each other
a “Happy New Year”. Children also stay up late to join the party.

3. New Year’s day is celebrated on January 1st.
January 1st is a public holiday and shops and business are closed.
Most people stay at home and relax with their families after a long party night.
Some people make New Year resolutions. They decide to make their lives better, for example
stopping smoking, going to the gym, eating healthy food, etc
