The effective words to the wise for
aligning the team and work at workplace
It can be really hard for you if you are first time supervisors to manage the role effectively
taking the hold of your ship fighting with the winds and the tidal waves. No matter what
amount of management expertise you have, it is difficult to carry the role. Even some
companies organize supervisor training sessions; hope you also get a chance to attend
one, where you will learn the ways to lead your team in harmony.
Until that time, it is very important for you to keep the organization goals aligned and to
follow certain tips at workplace-
 Never be everyone’s friend- This notion does not mean that you should not be
friendly. But in realistic situations, it becomes very difficult to maintain discipline
and deliver any sort of bad news down the line to your worker friends. So avoid
being friend with the workers.
 Recognition to be fair or equal- An employee can be fair but does not want a
recognition that is easily achieved by all. Don’t try and give the same recognition to
all the employees as this will harm their work and the respect they have for you in
their mind.
 Hunt for their feedback and inputs- Being a supervisor do not demand you to have
all the answers but to be able to extract out all the answers from the team. Taking
out their feedback and inputs for the benefit of the company makes the employees
feel as an important part of the company’s performance objectives.
 Learn to tackle meetings- Employees generally hate meeting!! Chairing a good
meeting for the employees to have maximum participation levels makes a good
supervisor. The supervisor must learn some of the ways to conduct the effective
meeting from the supervisor training modules and implement them at times.
 Improve your people skills- A supervisor must not in any way turn down to any of
the important training and seminars. Even bad and boring seminars can help you
get something out of it.
 Say “NO” Comfortably- An effective supervisor is one who manages the workload
with his time and gets great things done with ease and satisfaction. The team relies
upon the supervisors who must have no sugary quotes every time and have the
capability to say NO.
 Learn the art of Delegation- Being a supervisor you need not perform all tasks by
yourself. It is your responsibility to get the work completed before the deadline
either by any of your employees.
It is only when the team can perform their duties effectively; supervisors can move further
increasing skills by training. So, make your team your support to bring maximum to the
company benefitting yourself by the same.
