2. Abram = Abraham
Abram was born around 2000BC
in (1) UR.
The Sumerians worshipped
many gods, known as (2)
POLYTHEISM, but Abram
believed in just one, known as
(3) MONOTHEISM.
God came to him and said,
“Leave your own country and
your father’s house, and go to a
country that I will show you.”
God made a (4) COVENANT, or
promise, with Abram to make
him a father of a great nation if
he migrated to (5) CANAAN.
3. Canaan
Around (6) 1950 BCE , Abram led friends
and relatives from Ur to the land of
Canaan.
God spoke to Abram when he was 99
years old and made a second (7)
COVENANT with Abram. God said he
would protect Abram’s people if they
devoted themselves to God.
As a symbol of this covenant God
renamed Abram, “Abraham” which
means (8) “FATHER OF MANY.”
5. Hebrews in Egypt
After about 100 years there was a
(9) FAMINE in Canaan and the
Hebrews had to move to (10)
EGYPT (1800BC)
The Hebrews lived well in Egypt for
hundreds of years until around (11)
1600 BCE.
The Egyptian (12) PHARAOH
feared the Hebrews would become
too powerful and he decided to
enslave the Hebrews.
A man named Moses asked the
Pharaoh to free the Hebrews but
he said, “NO!”
6. The Ten Plagues
God punished the Egyptians with (13) 10
PLAGUES.
(14) LOCUSTS ate all the crops and the Nile
River turned to (15) BLOOD.
After each plague, Moses asked the Pharaoh
to free the Hebrews but he said, “No!”
The last plague killed every (16) FIRST BORN
SON in Egypt including the Pharaoh’s.
The Pharaoh decided to let the Hebrews go,
but he changed his mind and sent the
Egyptian army after them!
7. Exodus
Moses raised his staff and
parted the (17) RED SEA so
the Hebrews could cross.
The receding waters
drowned the Egyptian army.
This escape is called the
(18) “EXODUS.”
The Hebrews wandered the
desert for (19) 40 YEARS
before finally reaching
Canaan once again.
Moses died before making it
back to Canaan.
9. The Ten Commandments
While they wandered the desert around the (20)
SINAI PENINSULA, Moses received the Ten
Commandments on (21) MOUNT SINAI, or
“Mountain of God.”
The Ten Commandments set out laws:
(22) MONOTHEISM
Keep the (23) SABBATH, worship on the seventh day
of the week
(24) MORALS: respect parents and no lying, stealing,
murder
They were written on a stone tablet that became
known as the (25) ARK OF THE COVENANT
