Persuasive Outline
Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants).
Introduction
I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so
much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia.
The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our snobby
waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a "Sir! Excuse me, Sir." Our waitress hurried across the
parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, "Did I do something wrong?" In which dad
replied, "No, you didn't do anything wrong, why?" She hastily replied, "The tip. The tip," upset with
the amount left.
II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have
had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer's point of view.
III.The majority of the population dines out at restaurants at one time or another facing the art of
tipping at some point in their life, unless they prefer fast food.
IV.The elimination of tipping would create chaos within the service industry for both customers and
servers
V.Today I will discuss the initial purposes of tipping and the customer's point of view as well as the
view of the servers on how the no tip policy would impact the service industry.

a. Life's lemonade is not always an experience worthy of savoring, but rather an enlightenment of
what our motives are, and how we can take control of our lives. i. Most things in life, aren't as they
seem and as people we tend to lean towards what seems to be easier other than focusing on the
potential of becoming great by taking the long way. b. Thesis – When life leads a crooked path, it is
our responsibility to take control and focus on (1) what should be other than what is, (2) make
smart decisions, and (3) differentiate between good and bad as well as finding the good in bad. II.

With so many choices it is only relevant that before making decisions we map out our goals.
"Your goal is clearly in sight. The moment you put everything in its place, you have crossed the
finishing line" (Kondo). ii. Maintaining order is very crucial in life because success is for the
organized. It is not for the physically organized only, but also for the mentally organized. The
finishing line is closer than ever for most of us, but the question that remains is how can we have a
successful life and when that question is answered we can work towards our goals. Be mistaken not
because most life–long goals include sacrifices, up and downs, and time. C. In relation to taking
control, people usually sulk because things aren't going their way yet all they need to do is figure
out how they can make things better in their lives. For instance, a student that gets a failing grade
should not bicker about why things turned out that way, but work towards fixing the grade for a
better overall result. i. It is not about why, but how we can become a better version of ourselves.
"There is really nothing more to say except–why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take
refuge in how"

Persuasive Research Paper Outline
Week One Overview Everything you write has a purpose. Informal emails, texts, memos, essays,
and research papers are just a few examples. Your objective might be to persuade an audience to
accept new points of view or agree with your ideas. You might want to influence people to support
your stand on an issue. Writing a formal persuasive research paper is one way to induce others to
agree with your argument. In this course, you will have the opportunity to compose an argument
that will convince others to agree with your facts, share your values, accept your argument, and
elect your way of thinking about a topic. The first step is to define your topic, thesis/claim, and
purpose. Planning Your Persuasive Research Paper Next, you will create an Organizational Plan
and research your topic. The end result will be a formal persuasive research paper. The outcomes
and objectives for this course are that upon completion of the course you will be able to produce a
formal persuasive research paper. The activities you complete will help you through the writing
process. You will develop new perspectives on your topic. There are Weekly Objectives you will
complete which are supported by activities and related multimedia. Interacting with the e–learning
environment and using multimedia will enhance your knowledge of the objectives. As a result, you
will be...show more content...
In addition, the writing experience at the end of the course will help you with persuasive speaking in
front of an audience. To get you started, the activities and assignments will ease you into thinking
about the argument, and help you consider what direction your paper might take. This knowledge
will give you reasons to persuade your audience and to support your argument. In summation, you
will know how to define your topic, thesis/claim, and purpose of your

Don't Snooze and Cruise! Focus Points I.Claim: I am making a claim of value. II.Specific Purpose:
To persuade my classmates that driving while sleep–deprived is just as dangerous as drinking and
driving, and it shouldn't be done. III.Thesis: Although it is believed that driving while drowsy is
not a threat, it can cause some serious damage. Attention: 72,000. That's how many crashes
occurred in 2013 due to drowsy driving. This number is in the US alone. Drowsy driving is a big
issue, and it hasn't been stressed enough. We've all heard about the risks of drinking and driving,
but not many people advocate driving with a healthy amount of sleep. Having recently read an

One of the biggest problems with people driving while sleepy or tired is that they think they can
make it to their destination okay. They don't think something can actually happen to them. B.Some
think "oh well I have about 10 minutes left to get there. Why stop now? I can make it." This is not
reasonable. Anything can happen. Accidents are called accidents for a reason.– IV.People who have
experienced accidents with driving have testified that sleep is one of the most important things
when it comes to driving. "Sleep is a bigger priority for me now," says a nurse in Cincinnati who
fell asleep behind the wheel several years ago after working an overnight shift. She crossed the
double line while driving home and caused an accident. Sleep is not a luxury, Roberts now knows.
"It's a necessity," she says. – V.Some people might say they can make the drive okay, they say
they're not that sleepy, they say we're almost there, what's the point of stopping now, or driving
while drowsy isn't a big deal, but this is actually a big deal. However, being drowsy and sleep
deprived can have the same effects as someone who has had something to drink before driving.

Procrastination
I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one
of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly
heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing
to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems
to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done
quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things
will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are
putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from
continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as
how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning
about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone
II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people
chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent
research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30

Well, the persuasive speech did not go the best for me. I was extremely nervous and I could not
snap out of it; which I'm sure was obvious in the video. On the bright side, though, my catch phrase
made it easier to grab the attention of my audience! It also helped that my persuasive speech outline
had good flow. My persuasive speech contained a lot of resourceful information that I hope made
people actually think about becoming an organ donor. I made sure to include multiple statistics so
that my audience would know how many people are actually awaiting organ and tissue donation.
Providing this information in my speech was resourceful to my audience as well as myself because
organ and tissue donation is not generally a topic that people think a lot about and therefore they
might not know the real importance of organ and tissue donation....show more content...
I have no idea why this speech made me so nervous. Due to the fact that I was extremely nervous,
my mind kept freezing up on me, so, therefore, I was referring to my note cards more than I
needed to be; which made the speech not flow as smoothly as I would have liked it to.
Furthermore, because I was referring to my note cards more, my eye contact was lacking. My eye
contact was the one thing in my speech that needed the most improvement. Also, my nonverbal
communication was good in the fact that I did not move my hands around a lot, but did have
quite a few nervous twitches. The nonverbal that were displayed in this persuasive speech were
better than the other two speeches, but I still need to work on a couple of things, such as, having a
glass of water next to me so that I do not have to swallow so

General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience how to be more successful as a college student.
I.Introduction
A.Attention Getter: How many of you have said that there are too many options? Whether you
are talking about choosing a college, class selection once you get to college, or even something as
simple as choosing what to eat for dinner tonight. If you made a choice on what career field you
will enter after college, you come to find out that there are many a lot of choices for classes to
take. Or there may be too many prerequisites to take before you can begin your classes for your
choice of major. And if you are like me, you have no idea what you want to do and in this case,
there are more options than you can count. Today we are going to talk about the stressors that come
along with being a college student. Once we identify all the stressors or the most important and most
affective, we will then discuss how to reduce and omit them to help make your choices easier.
B.Thesis Statement: According to the National Center for Education Statistics, "the 2012 graduation
rate for...full–time undergraduate students who began their pursuit of a bachelor's degree at a

college students to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Every year the number of graduating college

ALL 50 STATES SHOULD HAVE MANDATORY MOTORCYCLE HELMET LAWS
TOPIC: Mandatory motorcycle helmet laws
PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that all 50 states should enact and enforce a mandatory
motorcycle helmet law.
THESIS STATEMENT: Mandatory helmet laws save lives and dollars.

Did you know that only 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws in place that require all
motorcycle riders to wear a helmet? 19!?
28 states have laws covering some riders, usually people younger than 18.
3 states (Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire) that do not have any helmet requirements at all. I find
it odd that we all are required by law to wear our seatbelts and put our children in safety...show more

Repeatedly, the effect is the same, no or fewer laws enforcing helmet wearing means increased
motorcycle rider fatalities
i. Less law requirement = less helmet wearing = more deaths
D. And that's the very real cost to you and me fewer Dads, uncles, sons, nephews (90% of all killed
are men)
Transition: But why? Why on earth would we weaken or get rid these laws when we know that they
prevent deaths?
II. Lots of motorcycle riders vehemently oppose these laws
A. They are passionate and vocal. They turn out in large numbers and ride their bikes around
Washington DC and state capitols. They walk the halls of legislatures and knock on doors lobbying
against helmet restrictions.
B. But safety is not the point that motorcycle rights activist groups are arguing: its freedom a. The
government shouldn't tell us what to do
b. It's so un–American it's embarrassing
i. Freedom fighters
c. it is my personal choice to make
i. Courts have time and again stuck down this individual argument

2. No insurance=Govt funded hospital bills and disability benefits
a. IIHS backs that up by reviewing 25 studies and concluding that just over half of riders involved in
accidents had private health insurance

a. College is an integral time period for many people – college is a time for freedom, receiving an
education, and learning what it means to survive on little to no food for long periods of time. Or at
least that's what it's been like for me. Food is arguably one of the most important things to a college
student, especially off–campus food. Many of you are probably thinking of that one food that you
could eat over and over again and never get tired of it. Of course food is important, though, or else

While many relate fasting to starving, this could not be further from the truth.
II.Body
a.The effects of fasting pertaining to physical health
i.In modern societies across the globe, humans typically eat meals three times daily, while
continuously snacking throughout the day. Overeating, especially with said eating patterns, has
lead to many metabolic morbidities and diseases such as obesity and heart disease when combined
with a sedentary lifestyle. Hundreds of years ago, humans and animals alike had adapted to an
environment in which food was scarce. This allowed for them to function cognitively and
physically at a very high level in a food deprived (or fasted) state.
ii.In their article Health effects of intermittent fasting: hormesis or harm?, Horne, Muhlestein, and
Anderson conclude that after many randomized, controlled clinical trials, some physical benefits
from fasting are as follows: "The body uses fats for energy during fasting, reducing fat storage and
resulting in a small, long–term reduction in risk after each fasting episode. Nutritional stress during
fasting, at least in part, results in cellular–level repairs, functional optimization, and metabolic
rejuvenation that may improve long–term health by reducing cardiovascular risk factors and acting
on the metabolism of glucose via genes." One of the main reasons for these benefits is that during
fasting, the

The result of an activity in which the students find the solutions by themselves is a handful of
students working on something interesting, that ignites creativity and in no way reminds them
that they are solving a math problem. Students need to have more time to grasp basic concepts
before they move on to higher levels of math. In the article "Why Our Kids Hate Math", Patrick
Welsh argues that "we're pushing many kids to grasp math at higher levels before they are ready",
which eventually drives students away from math related fields. Matt Waite would have save some
years of his adult life if he could've had more time to study algebra in high school. Instead, Waite
along with another 110 students had to take remedial classes once in college (Waite). Students also
need to work harder and believe in themselves. The responsibility of learning math isn't only of the

Introduction
A. Attention Getter: Nearly one half of the world's population is living in poverty. Living in a low
income household can have many influences on a child's life, a large one being education.
B. Thesis Statement: To better understand how we can achieve education equality, we need to
understand how poverty affects one's education, how it affects one's health, and what we can do to
help.
C. Preview: We'll talk about how poverty affects education, how poverty affects health, and what we
can do to help.
Transition: Education is affected by many factors, the first one we'll examine is the effects of poverty.
Body
1. How poverty affects one's education.
A.Economic segregation is a problem in preschool classrooms across the country, according to the
article "Let Rich and Poor Learn Together". Poor children are being separated from the classrooms
of the higher class children. Research shows that poor children do much better academically in
classes that are economically mixed than they do if the classes are more economically segregated.
Research also shows that children who are well–off are not academically harmed by attending school

young children, and three more times talking and listening to their children. White adults also offer

Strengths: Interesting topic. One we should all be talking about. Global warming is something that
is not something that will happen in the future but is actually happening right now. You have lots of
great sources that provide a lot of information.
What Works? Why?
1. Introduction: Your introduction is the place where you catch the reader's attention. You want
this to be a place where you provide facts that will get the reader wanting to read the following
paragraphs. In a persuasive essay there is no place for the first person. By starting with "I

your opinions rather than facts. Your thesis...show more content...
Supporting Evidence: I feel you have strong supporting evidence.
4. Conclusion: Just like in your introduction the first person hasn't have a place in this paper. You
do a great job proving your point but again it can all be for nothing by adding YOUR opinion to the
conclusion. The conclusion paragraph is the point where you wrap up your essay and you remind
the reader what your thesis was. Without a thesis, you don't have a place to connect the reader back
to the beginning.
Thesis: You are missing a thesis. The thesis helps you make your point about what the paper will
be about and tell the reader what points you will be touching on to prove your point. I would
suggest you pick three points that you feel will make a strong case on why or what is causing global
warming. After pointing out those three points you can write the paragraph that will include why
and how those things are hurting our animals, habitats and human life.
Structure: Overall your structure is good. I do see some grammatical and spelling errors. Like in
your conclusion you use the word "and" to connect the points you are making, you should try using
a comma to separate those points. There is also a really long sentence that can actually be broken up

Attractiveness Leads To The Good Life Introduction: Attention Grabber: Personal anecdote– I don't
remember the day I got picked first for kickball. This is largely due to the fact that I was never
picked first for kickball. It was always the members of the exclusive league of 'hot sixth graders',
which were all mutually agreed on by mostly people of the grade. I have no idea what made these
people more or less valuable than myself, or my other classmates, they weren't even that good at
kickball, seriously. These days were forever haunted by my mother's words, after a long,
exhausting day of the terrors and wonders of middle school, "Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder." Motivation For Listening: A personal anecdote will tie in my audience because it is
something different, and a story the audience hasn't ever been told before. It doesn't come from
boring fact; it comes from life experience. Thesis Statement: Why do more physically attractive
people live the 'good life'? Now, what do I mean by the 'good life'? I am referring to an endless void
of limitless opportunities, better job offers, more friends, and of course – more lovers. We, as
humans, are psychologically programmed to be more accepting and respectful of more physically
attractive human beings. First Main Point: Culture Plays Its Part Define attractiveness: According
to the dictionary, to be attractive is to be "pleasing or appealing to the senses." But how does one
know what is appealing to his or her senses? (Tie in culture, and how different cultures desire
different things attractive) Study conducted by Kushnick about the different foot sizes. Describe the
scenario. The Karo Barak, an Indonesian ethnic group, deemed women with larger feet to be more
attractive. Other countries, such as the United States, Brazil, and India, found women with smaller
feet to be more attractive. Transition: Culture is just one of many examples of factors that set what
is deemed attractive between people apart, but how to these factors of what is attractive contribute
to success in every day life? An example could be looking for a job. Second Main Point:

Outlines For Persuasive Essays

  • 1. Outline Of A Persuasive Outline Essay Persuasive Outline Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants). Introduction I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia. The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our snobby waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a "Sir! Excuse me, Sir." Our waitress hurried across the parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, "Did I do something wrong?" In which dad replied, "No, you didn't do anything wrong, why?" She hastily replied, "The tip. The tip," upset with the amount left. II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer's point of view. III.The majority of the population dines out at restaurants at one time or another facing the art of tipping at some point in their life, unless they prefer fast food. IV.The elimination of tipping would create chaos within the service industry for both customers and servers V.Today I will discuss the initial purposes of tipping and the customer's point of view as well as the view of the servers on how the no tip policy would impact the service industry. • 3. Outline For Persuasive Essay a. Life's lemonade is not always an experience worthy of savoring, but rather an enlightenment of what our motives are, and how we can take control of our lives. i. Most things in life, aren't as they seem and as people we tend to lean towards what seems to be easier other than focusing on the potential of becoming great by taking the long way. b. Thesis – When life leads a crooked path, it is our responsibility to take control and focus on (1) what should be other than what is, (2) make smart decisions, and (3) differentiate between good and bad as well as finding the good in bad. II. Body A. For example, almost everyone has gone through a struggle in their life whether it was life threatening or not and sometimes it just seemed as if there...show more content... With so many choices it is only relevant that before making decisions we map out our goals. "Your goal is clearly in sight. The moment you put everything in its place, you have crossed the finishing line" (Kondo). ii. Maintaining order is very crucial in life because success is for the organized. It is not for the physically organized only, but also for the mentally organized. The finishing line is closer than ever for most of us, but the question that remains is how can we have a successful life and when that question is answered we can work towards our goals. Be mistaken not because most life–long goals include sacrifices, up and downs, and time. C. In relation to taking control, people usually sulk because things aren't going their way yet all they need to do is figure out how they can make things better in their lives. For instance, a student that gets a failing grade should not bicker about why things turned out that way, but work towards fixing the grade for a better overall result. i. It is not about why, but how we can become a better version of ourselves. "There is really nothing more to say except–why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take refuge in how" Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This number is in the US alone. Drowsy driving is a big issue, and it hasn't been stressed enough. One of the biggest problems with people driving while sleepy or tired is that they think they can make it to their destination okay. They don't think something can actually happen to them. B.Some think "oh well I have about 10 minutes left to get there. Why stop now? I can make it." This is not reasonable. Anything can happen. Accidents are called accidents for a reason.– IV.People who have experienced accidents with driving have testified that sleep is one of the most important things when it comes to driving. "Sleep is a bigger priority for me now," says a nurse in Cincinnati who fell asleep behind the wheel several years ago after working an overnight shift. She crossed the double line while driving home and caused an accident. Sleep is not a luxury, Roberts now knows. "It's a necessity," she says. – V.Some people might say they can make the drive okay, they say they're not that sleepy, they say we're almost there, what's the point of stopping now, or driving while drowsy isn't a big deal, but this is actually a big deal. However, being drowsy and sleep deprived can have the same effects as someone who has had something to drink before driving. • 6. Outline Of Persuasive Speech On Procrastination Scott Alex Suddoth COMM 2381 Outline for Persuasive speech 11/18/2015 Procrastination I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future. Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30 Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Persuasive Speech Outline Well, the persuasive speech did not go the best for me. I was extremely nervous and I could not snap out of it; which I'm sure was obvious in the video. On the bright side, though, my catch phrase made it easier to grab the attention of my audience! It also helped that my persuasive speech outline had good flow. My persuasive speech contained a lot of resourceful information that I hope made people actually think about becoming an organ donor. I made sure to include multiple statistics so that my audience would know how many people are actually awaiting organ and tissue donation. Providing this information in my speech was resourceful to my audience as well as myself because organ and tissue donation is not generally a topic that people think a lot about and therefore they might not know the real importance of organ and tissue donation....show more content... I have no idea why this speech made me so nervous. Due to the fact that I was extremely nervous, my mind kept freezing up on me, so, therefore, I was referring to my note cards more than I needed to be; which made the speech not flow as smoothly as I would have liked it to. Furthermore, because I was referring to my note cards more, my eye contact was lacking. My eye contact was the one thing in my speech that needed the most improvement. Also, my nonverbal communication was good in the fact that I did not move my hands around a lot, but did have quite a few nervous twitches. The nonverbal that were displayed in this persuasive speech were better than the other two speeches, but I still need to work on a couple of things, such as, having a glass of water next to me so that I do not have to swallow so Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Persuasive Speech : Persuasive Outline Dyadic Persuasive Comprehensive Outline General Purpose: To persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience how to be more successful as a college student. I.Introduction A.Attention Getter: How many of you have said that there are too many options? Whether you are talking about choosing a college, class selection once you get to college, or even something as simple as choosing what to eat for dinner tonight. If you made a choice on what career field you will enter after college, you come to find out that there are many a lot of choices for classes to take. Or there may be too many prerequisites to take before you can begin your classes for your choice of major. And if you are like me, you have no idea what you want to do and in this case, there are more options than you can count. Today we are going to talk about the stressors that come along with being a college student. Once we identify all the stressors or the most important and most affective, we will then discuss how to reduce and omit them to help make your choices easier. B.Thesis Statement: According to the National Center for Education Statistics, "the 2012 graduation rate for...full–time undergraduate students who began their pursuit of a bachelor's degree at a 4–year...institution...was 59 percent." Also stated was that it took 6 years for those first–time college students to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Every year the number of graduating college students is drastically decreasing. THESIS STATEMENT: Mandatory helmet laws save lives and dollars. INTRODUCTION п‚· п‚· п‚· Did you know that only 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws in place that require all motorcycle riders to wear a helmet? 19!? 28 states have laws covering some riders, usually people younger than 18. 3 states (Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire) that do not have any helmet requirements at all. Repeatedly, the effect is the same, no or fewer laws enforcing helmet wearing means increased motorcycle rider fatalities i. Less law requirement = less helmet wearing = more deaths D. And that's the very real cost to you and me fewer Dads, uncles, sons, nephews (90% of all killed are men) Transition: But why? Why on earth would we weaken or get rid these laws when we know that they prevent deaths? II. Lots of motorcycle riders vehemently oppose these laws A. They are passionate and vocal. They turn out in large numbers and ride their bikes around Washington DC and state capitols. They walk the halls of legislatures and knock on doors lobbying against helmet restrictions. B. But safety is not the point that motorcycle rights activist groups are arguing: its freedom a. The government shouldn't tell us what to do b. It's so un–American it's embarrassing i. Freedom fighters c. it is my personal choice to make i. Courts have time and again stuck down this individual argument 1. Public roads 2. No insurance=Govt funded hospital bills and disability benefits a. IIHS backs that up by reviewing 25 studies and concluding that just over half of riders involved in accidents had private health insurance Transition: So, let's take a quick look at the safety issue that the freedom fighters can't refute. Please label these parts as you create your outline: I.Introduction a. College is an integral time period for many people – college is a time for freedom, receiving an education, and learning what it means to survive on little to no food for long periods of time. Or at least that's what it's been like for me. Food is arguably one of the most important things to a college student, especially off–campus food. Many of you are probably thinking of that one food that you could eat over and over again and never get tired of it. Of course food is important, though, or else why would we be told to eat three square meals...show more content... While many relate fasting to starving, this could not be further from the truth. II.Body a.The effects of fasting pertaining to physical health i.In modern societies across the globe, humans typically eat meals three times daily, while continuously snacking throughout the day. Overeating, especially with said eating patterns, has lead to many metabolic morbidities and diseases such as obesity and heart disease when combined with a sedentary lifestyle. Hundreds of years ago, humans and animals alike had adapted to an environment in which food was scarce. This allowed for them to function cognitively and physically at a very high level in a food deprived (or fasted) state. ii.In their article Health effects of intermittent fasting: hormesis or harm?, Horne, Muhlestein, and Anderson conclude that after many randomized, controlled clinical trials, some physical benefits from fasting are as follows: "The body uses fats for energy during fasting, reducing fat storage and resulting in a small, long–term reduction in risk after each fasting episode. Nutritional stress during fasting, at least in part, results in cellular–level repairs, functional optimization, and metabolic rejuvenation that may improve long–term health by reducing cardiovascular risk factors and acting on the metabolism of glucose via genes." The result of an activity in which the students find the solutions by themselves is a handful of students working on something interesting, that ignites creativity and in no way reminds them that they are solving a math problem. Students need to have more time to grasp basic concepts before they move on to higher levels of math. In the article "Why Our Kids Hate Math", Patrick Welsh argues that "we're pushing many kids to grasp math at higher levels before they are ready", which eventually drives students away from math related fields. Matt Waite would have save some years of his adult life if he could've had more time to study algebra in high school. • 19. Outline For Persuasive Essay Thank you for positing your first draft for review! Strengths: Interesting topic. One we should all be talking about. Global warming is something that is not something that will happen in the future but is actually happening right now. You have lots of great sources that provide a lot of information. What Works? Why? 1. Introduction: Your introduction is the place where you catch the reader's attention. You want this to be a place where you provide facts that will get the reader wanting to read the following paragraphs. In a persuasive essay there is no place for the first person. By starting with "I believe..." you have already lost credibility. The reader will now think that your paper is based on your opinions rather than facts. Your thesis...show more content... Supporting Evidence: I feel you have strong supporting evidence. 4. Conclusion: Just like in your introduction the first person hasn't have a place in this paper. You do a great job proving your point but again it can all be for nothing by adding YOUR opinion to the conclusion. The conclusion paragraph is the point where you wrap up your essay and you remind the reader what your thesis was. Without a thesis, you don't have a place to connect the reader back to the beginning. Thesis: You are missing a thesis. The thesis helps you make your point about what the paper will be about and tell the reader what points you will be touching on to prove your point. I would suggest you pick three points that you feel will make a strong case on why or what is causing global warming. After pointing out those three points you can write the paragraph that will include why and how those things are hurting our animals, habitats and human life. Structure: Overall your structure is good. I do see some grammatical and spelling errors. Like in your conclusion you use the word "and" to connect the points you are making, you should try using a comma to separate those points. There is also a really long sentence that can actually be broken up into two Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. Persuasive Speech Outline Yarden Ben–David SPC1608 Professor Barbara Gutierrez 6/14/17 Persuasive Speech Outline: Attractiveness Leads To The Good Life Introduction: Attention Grabber: Personal anecdote– I don't remember the day I got picked first for kickball. This is largely due to the fact that I was never picked first for kickball. It was always the members of the exclusive league of 'hot sixth graders', which were all mutually agreed on by mostly people of the grade. I have no idea what made these people more or less valuable than myself, or my other classmates, they weren't even that good at kickball, seriously. These days were forever haunted by my mother's words, after a long, exhausting day of the terrors and wonders of middle school, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Motivation For Listening: A personal anecdote will tie in my audience because it is something different, and a story the audience hasn't ever been told before. It doesn't come from boring fact; it comes from life experience. Thesis Statement: Why do more physically attractive people live the 'good life'? Now, what do I mean by the 'good life'? I am referring to an endless void of limitless opportunities, better job offers, more friends, and of course – more lovers. We, as humans, are psychologically programmed to be more accepting and respectful of more physically attractive human beings. First Main Point: Culture Plays Its Part Define attractiveness: According to the dictionary, to be attractive is to be "pleasing or appealing to the senses." But how does one know what is appealing to his or her senses? (Tie in culture, and how different cultures desire different things attractive) Study conducted by Kushnick about the different foot sizes. Describe the scenario. The Karo Barak, an Indonesian ethnic group, deemed women with larger feet to be more attractive. Other countries, such as the United States, Brazil, and India, found women with smaller feet to be more attractive. Transition: Culture is just one of many examples of factors that set what is deemed attractive between people apart, but how to these factors of what is attractive contribute to success in every day life? An example could be looking for a job. Second Main Point: Get more content on HelpWriting.net
