- 4. • RT-You can pick up a lot of followers this way because people appreciate someone helping to spread their tweets to a larger audience. • Stalk-Follow the followers of those you like. • Share-When people discover that you tweet great stuff, you’ll get new followers by the dozens.
- 5. To create a list: Go to your Lists page. This can be done via the gear icon drop down menu in the top right navigation bar or by going to your profile page and clicking on Lists. Click Create list. Enter the name of your list, a short description of the list, and select if you want the list to be private (only accessible to you) or public (anyone can subscribe to the list). Click Save list. To add or remove people from your lists: Click the gear icon drop down menu on a user's profile. Select Add or remove from lists. (You don't need to be following a user to add them to your list.) A pop-up will appear displaying your created lists. Check the lists you would like to add the user to, or uncheck the lists you'd like to remove the user from. To check to see if the user you wanted to add was successfully included in that list, navigate to the Lists tab on your profile page. Click the desired list, then click Members. The person will appear in the list of members.

- RT-These may sound obvious, but it’s some of the easiest ways to connect with others and gain new followers. People appreciate the RT, and its an easy way to gain new followers. Share-That new article you just read? EduBlog you commented on or Ted Talk you watched? Share them w your PLN, and people will get you have some great resources-an easy way to gain followers. Be sure you always credit your sources with the mention, it’s just good Twitter etiquette. Stalk-Yep, you read that right-stalk them. When you find a Tweeter you admire or like their content, check out their followers, and begin following them from there. May I suggest you start with GAVS? We follow our teachers, but lots of other great educational resources, as well.
- You can create groups of people within your Twitter followers into a list, so you can see all their timelines at once, or easily search for certain followers. Settings>Lists. As you can see here, you can also subscribe to other peoples’ lists. If you are looking for others GAVS people to connect with, and you don’t want to have to look everyone up, look under my list here, and subscribe to it, that way you will also get updates when I add people.
- WeFollow is organized by interests. It started out as a Twitter directory, you can search and sort people based on interests and what’s called a Prominence Score, its like a ranking.
- Get involved and join the conversation, you’ll see great reciprocation in the online Twitter ed community
- Observing and participating a relevant chats is prob my #1 suggestion for growing your PLN. Not only will you learn a lot about the subject material, you will get to really engage with others w similar interests to you, and also get to know some of the experts on Twitter involved in education. For a first timer, there are a few great ones I will recommend, also, check out my last slide with the extra resources on it, for a comprehensive list of all the chats in the area of education. As you can see from the few I highlighted, there are chats for every interest or group!
- You should be able to catch on pretty quickly to the style of the chat. Usually there is a moderator or creator who starts the eve with a question. You may see it marked Q1 so everyone understands the correlation. Someone answering that ques should put A1 to correlate their answer to that question. That way its easier to follow on the feed. Some chats are looser, but it generally still yields great info, resources, connections and encouragement.
- These are third party websites that you can link your Twitter and other accounts up to, so that you can manage them all from one place, called a dashboard. I manage our GAVS Twitter YouTube, Facebook, Google Plus and LinkedIn pages from Hootsuite. You can schedule posts ahead of time, or track specific hashtags from your favorite chats. They are apps avail on most smartphones, so you can do all of this on the go, as well.
- Just try hashtagging first. Write a tweet from your page, using the #GAVSTweetUp hashtag, and I will see it in real time, and I can answer your questions
