2. To complete your GCSE, you must have 2
coursework projects
•Project 1: ‘Natural Forms’ (Complete)
•Project 2: ‘Collections’ (this project will last
until FEBRUARY.)
After February you will be complete the exam
unit.
3. • col·lec·tion (k-lkshn) n. 1. The act or process
of collecting.
• A group of objects or works to be seen,
studied, or kept together
– Collecting present participle of col·lect (Verb)
– Verb: Bring or gather together (things, typically
when scattered or widespread).
– Accumulate and store over a period of time.
4. You may have built up your own
collections of things like ‘Shoes’
or ‘Stationary’. It does not have
to be as literal as this though it
could be a collection of
‘Memories’ or ‘Cities’ for example
38. Idea Blast!
Activity:
you will need several sheets of paper and a few coloured felt tips (or just one if you’re
limited!)
• You will be brainstorming with me during the video. I will then ask you to upload pictures of your
brainstorms so we can share ideas. If you could put your photos of your different brainstorms into one
PowerPoint and upload the pictures by the end of the day, or as soon as possible, that would be
appreciated. This is so I can share your thoughts with the class to inspire their mood boards (no names will
be mentioned). If you upload all your photos separately it will be very difficult to download them
individually for sharing.
• In the video I will call out the sub theme and I want you to write down or sketch what comes into your
head, any words thoughts or linked themes/ideas.
• You can get the whole family involved to help you and have fun with it!
• There is no wrong or right, only your own creative mind at work and expressing itself so go for it!
Please play the video 1 once you have the paper and pens. Thank you Ms Emin
You may also wish to watch the brainstorm demonstration video to help you with this
activity
39. Mood Board
Collection of
Body Parts
Your first task is to collect images to
Create a mood board in your new sketchbook.
40. Mood Board Options
Either create a mood board in Word/PowerPoint or print off images to
stick down and fill at least two pages for your new sketchbook
(2x19cm squares). Consider the layout and technique you will use to
present them:
Torn or cut edging?
Consider varying the scale and size of the images.
Will the images fit tight together edge to edge or overlap?
Will you create a background relevant to your theme?
How can your composition/layout be made more effective?
•Consider the style of art that you like and the ‘look’ of your sketchbook
moving forward. Try to echo that look in your pages by using colours,
materials and collage in the background of the pages, including the mood
board. How might your chosen theme inspire the ‘look’ of the book?
Extension: alongside printing and sticking, draw some of the images out
using different media (see the example to the left where the student’s theme
of the internal body is echoed in inky drawings of the skeleton and heart). If
you are not assembling your mood board until September and working in
Word/PowerPoint, just keep your drawings separate for now.
• Collage
• Water colours
• Tracing paper
• Fabric
• Stitching
• Tearing
• Layering
• Sowing
• Taping
• Washes
• Textures
41. Writing – key words and Ideas - Thoughts
You may wish to include some words from your brainstorm or other inspiration text (depending on your chosen theme this
may be from a diary entry, poem, book, list of brands or emotions ect).
42. 19cm
19cm
19cm
19cm
If you wish to construct and assemble your mood board on paper (as you have a
printer at home), this is the size of the paper you will need so it can be stuck straight
into your book in September. You will need at least two pages as it is a double page
mood board.
Deadlines
• Please upload brainstorm Power Point as soon as possible for class sharing
• Your mood board must be uploaded before your first lesson next week Tuesday 9th
