An avant-garde building imagined by the architect Christian de Portzamparc. Multidisciplinary, la
Cité de la Musique houses a museum , temporary exhibitions and a large music hall for classic,
jazz or rock concerts. Look for the Jazz à la Villette festival in September to keep up with the
latest musical trends. The Café de la Musique is a terrific spot for a tea in the winter or a cocktail
on the terrace, with a fabulous view of the park, when the weather permits.
This musical city offers the possibility to discover the heritage of music from all over the world,
from the 17th-century until today. The museum has expanded in 2009 its collection to include
new musical styles, with objects from around the world. A symphony of instruments, but also
drawings, models and interactive supports. Guided tours are available (le concert-promenade) to
allow visitors the possibility of viewing the exhibition and taking in a concert at the same time.
On the artistic side, la Cité de la Musique offers quality shows featuring some of the greatest
musical masters: Lennon, Pink Floyd, Gainsbourg or Wagner.
