Gaming: What’s the appeal? Products (assessments) Group: GOOD GAME SPAWN POINT – filmed game review Individual: Reflective Journal
Products What is a reflective journal? Start with an HYPOTHESIS Document how you are investigating your hypothesis:  what are your goals? which tasks have you done? 3.   Which habits of mind are you working on improving?
Timeline 10 lessons: Lesson 1: Introduction to unit Lesson 2: Planning with your group Lessons 3-9: Working on products Lesson 10: Presenting your group product to the class
Skills Outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 7, 11 ,[object Object]
Looking at technology: review of game features, using film techniques, using edmodo to collaborate
Thinking critically: analysing game features, analysing your hypothesis, working in a group
Using, reflecting upon, assessing collaborative and individual learning processes: negotiating and planning with your group, reflective journal, peer feedback,[object Object]
What are some different TYPES of technological games you know about?
Circle Time
Hypothesis: What is it? Scientific? Testing things, investigating things. You do it all the time without realising it!
Hypothesis: Why is gaming appealing? What do YOU think is the explanation? Why?  My (fake) hypothesis: People like reading books with characters they can relate to. Why do I think this? The best selling books of all time have characters which are realistic. Use the clip you watched and the discussion we had to formulate your hypothesis!

  • 13. Tips: Write down a range of options before you choose your hypothesis. Which is the best explanation? Don’t make your hypothesis too broad: e.g. Games are appealing because they are fun. WHY are they fun? There is a video embedded into edmodowith extra tips.
  • 14. Hypothesis: Why is gaming appealing? Now your task is to come up with some evidence for or against your hypothesis during the unit. You will use your journal to REFLECT on this! At the end of the unit you will come to a CONCLUSION using this evidence. Do “research” by: -playing games yourself, looking carefully at their features -working with your group, what do they think? -watching episodes of Spawn Point for ideas
