1. 25 sample interview questions
Feel free to use these questions during your next interview. You may be surprised how much
information you can collect by rephrasing your questions from the standard résumé regurgitation drill.
Although there are 25 sample questions, you will probably only need a portion of this list for most
interviews. Review the questions and select the ones that are most relevant to your situation. You
should also create your own questions that pertain to the specific position you are trying to fill.
1. Tell me about a time when you had to discipline an employee.
2. Describe a situation in which you were able to use persuasion to successfully convince someone to
see things your way.
3. Give me a specific example of a time when you used good judgment and logic in solving a problem.
4. Give me an example of a time when you set a goal and were able to meet or achieve it.
5. Tell me about a time when you had to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to get a job
done.
6. Tell me about a time when you had too many things to do and you were required to prioritize your
tasks.
7. Give me an example of when you showed initiative and took the lead.
8. Tell me about a recent situation in which you had to deal with a very upset customer or co-worker.
9. Give me an example of a time when you motivated others.
10. Tell me about a time when you delegated a project effectively.
11. Give me an example of a time when you used your fact-finding skills to solve a problem.
12. Describe a time when you anticipated potential problems and developed preventative measures.
13. Tell me about a time when you were forced to make an unpopular decision.
14. What are the kinds of things you particularly enjoy in your present position? What things do you
enjoy least?
15. What do you consider to have been your major accomplishments?
16. What are your reasons for wanting to leave your present employment?
17. In the past, for what things have your supervisors complimented you? For what have they criticized
you? How do you think your present supervisor would describe you?
18. What are some of the things you find difficult to do?
19. In what ways has your present job prepared you for greater responsibilities?
20. In what ways does this position meet your career goals and objectives?
21. What are your long-range goals and objectives?
22. What are some of the things that are important to you in a job?
23. Tell me how you increased teamwork among a previous group with whom you worked.
24. Describe what you liked and disliked about how you were managed in previous positions.
25. Tell me about a time when you set specific work goals for yourself. How did things turn out?
