2. With the progression of the internet there are now literally hundreds of ways to stream and download songs. You can watch music videos on youtube, buy albums and videos from itunes or stream you favourite songs on spotify.
3. iTunes This is the most popular way of buying songs, albums and videos via the internet. The iTunes store as it is better known is the online shop created by the software company Apple that sells music, television shows, music videos, audio books etc over the internet. This program is available for free download however you can only access the store if you have a iPod and a good connection to the internet. This would sound like only a select view have access to the iTunes store this is in fact not true because apple have reportedly sold over 100 million iPods with more being sold everyday. This would be a great place to sell our song and video because it would be seen by more than 100 million people and it is one of the most popular ways our target market buys songs and music videos.
4. Spotify Spotify is a program that an individual installs onto their computer or multiple computers and allows them to listen to their favourite songs for free. This works by using the money from advertisers to buy rights to the songs. If an individual does not want any advertisements to appear then they pay a fee again putting money into the industry. There is no time wasted downloading or buffering the music from online. However this distributor does not allow music videos to be watched through it. However at the moment unsigned bands and solo artists cannot put their music onto Spotify.
5. Youtube YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. Users are allowed to upload their own content as long as it abides YouTube’s strict terms and usage policy. As it is quite easy to get a YouTube account bands and solo artists use YouTube to advertise their videos and concert videos free. They also upload their interviews about their albums and up and coming tour dates. On conducting further research I found that YouTube uploads 780 hours of video per hour meaning it uploads 18720 hours of footage a day. I also took my research one step further and found that Youtube actually receives 100 million hits a day. This word be an ideal way to show the world our music video because its not just famous bands and solo singers that upload their videos unsigned artists and bands upload their videos as a way to be seen on a global sale. It would also be a ggod idea to upload our video because it could receive a 100 million hits a day and it would get our video seen on a global scale.
6. Music Piracy Illegal downloads play a massive role in the music industry and the media industry in general. In 2008 more than 40 billion songs were illegally downloaded and a quote I found in the Sunday times stated that “an average teenager’s iPod has over 800 illegally downloaded songs on it”. In in 2009 the US music industry stated that they lost $12.5 billion because of illegal downloads. So how are people illegally downloading songs well the two are limewire and piratebay. These a the biggest contributors to illegal downloads however they both claim that they aren’t doing anything illegal. This is because the people who use these programs are sharing bits of videos, songs, albums etc with other people and limewire and piratebay claim that there is no law that says they can’t. at least have of our target audience have sadly admitted to illegally downloading songs. As no one pays to download music of limewire and piratebay it would not be a good Idea to upload our song and video to these illegal torrents.
7. Social Networking With social networking sites making it easier and easier for friends to keep on touch it has also helped bands/solo artists famous or unsigned bring their music to a much larger audience. The main social networking site that bands use is Facebook it use to be myspace but in recent years myspace has been shadowed by Facebook. There are now 500 million Facebook users with more signing up everyday this would be the perfect way to advertise our band because it is free to set up an account meaning we are advertise to a global audience for free. Also being on a social next working site is a great way to interact with fans weather its tour information, up and coming albums, when they’ll be appearing on television or just feedback from the fans. Another social networking site that does all this and is extremely popular among celebrities is Twitter this is a social networking site that has allowed celebrities to inform their fans on what there doing.
