This is a display table slide show used to describe the basic elements of enabling teenagers to use their interests and aptitudes as the basis for classroom activity while also meeting mandated curriculum requirements.
School is a passive experience, does not develop decision making skills required for life.We know this needs to change.
Bringing self-directed learning into the conventional classroom
Many ways that we can invest ourselves
Students identify get-to-dos and areas of personal interest
Students recognise that energy is a limited resource, use templates to track their daily decisions
Get students invested in their classroom experience
Use allowance systems tied to classroom responsibilities; students use currency to gain access to a variety of resources for building their personal initiative projects. Note that no student is ever denied access to the classroom store, regardless of the balance in their classroom account.
We also know that Ministry has standards that all of us in education need to meet.I’m the guy for decentralising the classroom and meeting ministry expectations.
Students take responsibility for indicating achievement of learning goals, teachers task is to help recognise Ministry targets and facilitate efforts to get there.
