2. ARENA
• The industry Market I am looking into is the Sports Media Market and the
field I want to work in that industry is Sports casting or a Videographer.
• The market area region I would like to be in is most likely the west region (
California, Arizona, Washington, Nevada.
• South Region ( Texas, Tennessee, Miami, Atlanta Alabama)
• Midwest Region ( Illinois, Michigan, Cleveland)
• Northeast Region ( New York)
• Companies to work for in those Regions Espn, Turner Sports, Fox, and CSN.
3. IDENTITY
• Well my name is Denzel Smith I am 23 years old born and raised in Chicago,
Illinois Played a couple of sports coming up as a kid in Chicago. Them sports
included ( Basketball, Football, Bowling, Baseball) As a kid growing up in this city
it was tough I wanted to leave this city since I was 6 years old. But I wanted to
find a skill that would be my ticket and when I started sports casting in high school
and in college I found out that this was my skill that would take me out of the city
that I so badly want to leave. Sports casting made me feel comfortable talking to
various coaches and athletes and try to get the information and resources to the
people listening to me and my broadcast partner and it was a fun experience so
going further I know this is going to be my golden ticket.
4. SKILLS
• Voice and Pacing basically you have to relaxed and comfortable on camera
and using microphones. You also have to speak clearly and expressively.
• Quick Thinking basically you have to have the ability to think quickly and
stay calm and professional even when unexpected events happen.
• Game Knowledge You have to know the rules of the game and be aware of
trends and current events.
5. PROFESSION
• For me well right now I am 23 years old and work for a rental car company
called Hertz, but I have had experience in sports casting more then 5 years
and I had my ups and downs but I have knowledge of more then one sport
and played the game as well. At Hertz, I apply that to making sure
customers are going to the right cars they rent out and make sure they are
satisfied with what they are in. Plus I try to research the client and the car
provide as much information as I can so they can feel safe in the vehicle they
are renting. I come to work with focus and determination just like I did for
sportscasting.
6. CREDENTIALS
• Well I have worked in this profession before for high school and college hoops
but I think doing that for 5 years should be enough to prove myself to others
and show that I can be loud and proud of calling games from the east coast
to the west coast. And make sure the fans and the audience have a great
feeling that I can be a great addition to a certain company but wishing them
well and telling them what they want to hear.
7. PROMISE
• My Promise to my future employer is to bring my A game to every game I
sportscast. I want to bring my profession skills of 5 years of sports casting to
the big time and prove that I can hang with the best and be one of the
futures brigest casters at that. I plan to solve screw ups that happens with
other sports caster and that’s by reminding them that no matter what
happens what happens on the court, field, or ice you have to be professional
and keep the negative reactions and outburst if not appropriate to yourself or
off camera. Because I did it professionally with coaches and athletes in
interviews when they were being inappropriate its hard but it can be fixed.
8. POSITIONING
• Well people should hire me because I have the experience the determination
and the will power to be a sports caster and I can also work the camera as
well in the sports industry. I am mobile and most of the others are probably
not mobile and plus I know more then one language so that could I connect
with others in their language or broadcasting a game talking in another
language. I want people to say hey he knows our language and I want to be a
man of the people others might not like the people or don’t want to. Learn
another language but I will to be reliable and mobile.
9. AUDIENCE
• Employers are the company who I can work for Fox, Espn, CSN,
• Customers are the fans that are listening to our commentary on the game
• Clients basically are the fans
• What influences them is the game and we as sportscasters have to provide
information and play by play what will interest these people are the game and how
its told and how much of a difference it plays from other broadcasters. Because more
one team of sportscasters can call the game some might want to hear this team or
the other my job is to keep the people focused on us.
• The Activates we might host outside is probably holding sports interview with the
athletes and get their thoughts on the game and how it ended and how it could be.
10. NETWORKING & MARKETING
• Get involved with a college radio and television station that’s a why to tell types of stories
show that I am flexible and make connections with various of people.
• Sports internships at major networks they are very competitive, but having various
experiences in sport networks could help.
• Having On- Air experience will land you a job as a sports reporter.
• Network with industry professionals
• Having a current demo reel can be helpful as well.
• Me as a sportscaster will publish sports talks, highlights, and interviews with peoples favorite
athletes.
• The big events will I attended is Super bowl, NBA playoffs, and finals, March Madness,
World Series, Stanly Cup. To bring the fans and audience the content they need.
11. COMPETITORS
• Well if mi a sportscaster the Competition I am facing depends on if mi a
play by play guy or a color commentary. One tells the game the other tells
the game from what's going on around those and the players and the energy
of the crowd at the game as well. So it can be your partner or the other guys
from the other network calling the game. Steve Zimmer Graduate of Florida
State With a B.A in Sports communication and works for CSN. Julie
Peterson Graduate of Wake Forrest With a B.A in Sports communication
and works for Fox sports 1
12. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• I need to improve on my confidence in speaking up and loud in front the
people and the people at home watching various games. I also need to do my
research on the team who I broadcast for opponents and study their stats
and players so that when it comes to broadcast the game I can be ready to
call it. I have skills in sports knowledge and quick knowledge of what's going
on and off the court and fields and I know every play of every sport. If I ever
need a mentor I will talk to a broadcast director. And I will spend nights
and days studying and crafting my game to be better at it everyday in both
English and Spanish .
13. GOALS
• So my goal is to gradate from Full Sail University in the fall of 2019 with a
associates degree in sports casting hopefully after that I can get a internship at espn
or any local news network industry in sports. My goal by 2021 is to work for a
major sports network or local one out of Chicago baby steps first then establish my
brand connect one out of one of those sport networks in 2023 by having sponsorships
and by disburse podcasts and radio shows and hopefully by 2025 we will have a
network contract that we can bring our brand of sports casting to the people across
the nation and have my linkden profile go up 30% by then as well and my network
