2. Which version of QuickBooks work with
QuickBooks Remote Access?
QuickBooks Remote Access is accessible just for
QuickBooks software for PCs running Windows 95, 98, ME
(Millennium Edition), XP, 2000, NT, or Vista. QuickBooks
Remote Access does not work with QuickBooks: Pro for
Mac. It also doesn’t work with QuickBooks: Online Edition,
which provides remote access functionality for up to 20
users without the need for QuickBooks Remote Access.
3. How to Remote Access QuickBooks
QuickBooks access requires the QuickBooks Remote Access
tool, available for a monthly subscription fee. You can get to
your QuickBooks documents safely from any PC through the
remote access Web interface. The remote access tool has the
same system requirements as the most current QuickBooks
editions except QuickBooks: Pro for Mac, which does not
support remote access.
4. Setting up Remote Access for QuickBooks
Step 1: Sign up for QuickBooks Remote Access on the Intuit website (full link in Resources.)
Step 2: Launch a Web browser on the computer from which you need to access QuickBooks
remotely and log into your account on the QuickBooks Remote Access website.
Step 3: Click "Set up computer," to download the remote access tool installation file. Navigate
to the downloaded file and double-click it.
Step 4: Enter a computer nickname in the "Nickname" field, and then click "Next.“
Step 5: Place a check mark next to the options to initiate each time you log into a remote
session. The options include: "Automatically reduce screen resolution to match;" "Use full-
screen view by default;" "Disable this computer’s keyboard and mouse" and "Make this
computer’s screen blank.“
Step 6: Place a check mark next to the applications to access remotely on this computer. For a
minimal monthly fee, access only your QuickBooks accounts. For a slightly higher fee each
month, access all of your files and applications remotely. Click the "Next" button.
Step 7: Check the box for the authentication option to use. Either enter a passcode, or use a
phone number. The passcode option allows you to enter the passcode in the login page when
you access QuickBooks remotely. The phone number option requires that the tool call you, and
then prompt you for the access code each time. Click the "Finish" button.
5. Remote Accessing QuickBooks
Step 1: Launch a Web browser on your remote computer and log in to your
account on the QuickBooks Remote Access website.
Step 2: Check the box next to the computer nickname you defined, and then click
"Connect" in the Action column.
Step 3: Authorize your computer, using either passcode or phone authentication.
If you are using the phone number authentication, enter the passcode on the
phone when the remote tool calls you and prompts you for it.
Step 4: Click the Remote Access drop-down menu and click "End QuickBooks
Remote Access Session" when you finish your session.
