3. Introduction
• Introduce the story by telling what kind of story it
is.
For example: This is a true story; This is a story I heard
somewhere…
• Use connectors to start:
First of all
To start with
At the beginning

4. Beginning
• Introduce the characters in the story.
• Tell how the story started.
Provide background information about the setting and
time period when the story took place.
Say where, when, what time of day, what the weather
was like,etc.
• Use connectors to go on:
Then; After that; Next,
As soon as/ when + full clause,
…but then; immediately,

5. The Plot
• Tell the main events in the order that they
happened.
For example: I left home and went to the park; then, I
saw a curious little girl…

6. • Use adverbs to introduce:
- Interruptions and/or New Elements to the Story:
Suddenly; unexpectedly.
“Suddenly, a car appeared roaring along the road.”
- Events occurring at the Same Time:
While/ As + full clause
During + noun (noun clause)
“While I was looking at the girl, the car headed
towards me.”

7. The End
• Tell what has changed or how things are now.
You can have a happy ending, a sad ending or a shift to
the story.
• Use connectors to end the story:
Eventually
In the end,
Finally,

8. The Moral
• Make final comments or provide some
conclusions about the story.

9. Other Important Elements of Story
Telling
• Cause and Effect
Provide reasons for different actions that occur in the
story.
• Link Ideas Logically
• Use proper verb tenses
and Reported Speech

10. Think of a story to tell…
• Think of a story that happened to you which is
interesting. What happened?
• Was that a happy or sad story? Why?
• Which were the main events of the story? In which order
did they happen?
• How have things changed because of that story?
• Which lesson did you learn from the story?
