4. Mission
Mission of Grameen Sahara is to promote a large
number of sustainable livelihoods for the poor and
women from rural, semi urban and urban areas
through provision of Livelihood support services,
financial and Technical assistance and other
support services in an integrated manner.
5. Projects
• Golden Weavers’ project,
Programs • Diversion Based Irrigation Project,
• Microfinance program,
Programs • System of Rice Intensification Promotion,
• Asian Mud Eel project,
Programs • CML Project.

region
7. What is Diversion Based Irrigation
~It is a process of harnessing the natural flow of
water under the gravitational force for providing
water in the agricultural fields at the downstream
areas without doing any damage or loss to the
source and forest property.
~Utilizing the gravitational force without any lift
mechanism
~No input of external energy like electricity and
other fuel
~Environment friendly
10. Objectives
To make the farm land suitable for kitchen
gardening and other agriculture practices
To provide irrigation facilities to 4 (9 villages in
first phase and 4 in second phase) number of
villages covering 400 small and marginal farmers;
To increase food security for the farm families;
To create awareness about SRI and other modern
and scientific method of cultivation, encouraging
farmers to adopt multi cropping practices.
11. Project area
In Kamrup District
1) Balijuri
2) Andheri
3) Kharkhari
In Goalpara District
1) Barmohora
12. Primary Beneficiaries
:
1) Marginal farmers from 4 ((+4) villages are the primary beneficiaries.
2)The targeted farmers belong to ST mainly Rabha, and a few families
belong to OBC .
13. Base line indicators
The villagers have been already using the water from
the springs carrying manually for small agricultural
activities as well as for their domestic purposes;
Most of the farmers have no income from the rabi crop
cultivation such as potato, tomato, brinjal, mustard, chili
etc. ;
Practice of kitchen gardening is in very small scale;
There is no water user group and the groups formed will
be in existence to take up maintenance activities as well;
Around 60% farmers have less than sufficient food grain
production from his agricultural land during the year
and the provision of water will increase the food
sufficiency level;
Increase in production will be an indicator for the
project;
16. Pipe Laying and Fitting
• In this process the Executive
Director of DBI secretariat Mr.
Sanjay Kr. Ray trained the
members of WUG including the
members of DBI Team of Grameen
Sahara and the jobs have been
completed by the members of the
WUG’s
17. Providing and Fixing Outlet
• The trained members of
WUG’s have performed this
job and fixed all the outlets
including necessary fittings
where required
• The out lets have been fixed
as per decision of the
members of the WUG’s
18. Expected outcomes
As mentioned in the objectives of the project the expected
outcomes are-
• The marginal farmers will be benefited by increased in
production in their kitchen garden .
• Nutritious food will be available in their kitchen
garden .
• Fair distribution of water among all the farmers for
better productivity
• Adoption of scientific practice when water supply will
be assured in their agricultural land
• Increase in production in their kitchen garden
• SRI practice will be adopted by the farmers
• Water will be available for drinking for domestic
animals
19. Formation of WUGs
Sl. No. Village No. of groups No. of members
1 Balijuri 3 39
2 Andheri 1 10
3 Barmohora 4 46
4 Upper Muduki 4 35
20. Agricultural intervention
Introduction of kitchen gardening
has been successful. In Balijuri
and Barmohora village farmers
have started the cultivation of
Rabi crop (Potato, tomato,
cabbage. Radish, turnip, carrot,
pumpkin, chili, etc. )
Mustard was another crop
adopted by a few farmers. So, in a
sense multi cropping system was
introduced.
Beneficiaries have also been
linked to credit facility under this
project for agricultural purpose.
21. Other supports:
• As per demand of the WUG’s
they have been supplied some
seeds of a few different rabi
crops .
• Training on manufacturing of
bio fertilizer.
• Tried to make Popular the
cultivation of banana and other
horticultural crops
22. In Training Programme
Training on Diversion Based Irrigation
Organized by Livolink Foundation, Bhubaneswar
9th Sept’2011 to 12th sept’2011
21 nos. of representatives of different NGO’s participated .
23. Organizing awareness & training
• Various training programs were
organized at different villages in
the project areas,
• Exposure programs were organized
by Livolink foundation Bhubaneswar
for the trainees from different DBI
partners.

26. Achievements
57 marginal farmers have been benefited by
adopting multi cropping system in their kitchen
garden.
Fair distribution of water among the farmers for
better productivity.
Adoption of scientific practice (SRI) by the
farmers.
Water is available for domestic purposes also.
27. Challenges
• Covered only a few families of the locations nearer to the
sources out of more than one hundred families at each
location, having similar kind of requirement for water and
therefore, not getting this facility they may damage at any
part of the pipe system or they may involve in conflict at
any time with them who are getting this facility.
• Deforestations;-Continue deforestation (By the local people
or by outsiders)Since the mountainous springs are the
source of this project, continue deforestations nearby the
catchment area may badly impact on it.
• Farmers are with very very much with traditional practice
and there is no concept in multi-cropping practice;
• Over all interest of farmers in agriculture is decreasing.
