This document introduces trauma-informed care, which recognizes the high prevalence of trauma and incorporates the survivor's perspective. Trauma-informed care facilitates consumer participation and asks "what happened" rather than "what's wrong". The five key principles of trauma-informed care are safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. The document provides resources on trauma-informed approaches and considers how it relates to empowerment theory and potential intervention paths for trauma survivors.
