2. ADVOCATING PDHPE AND ITS
IMPORTANCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
PDHPE is important and should be essential in primary
school curriculum as it provides awareness to students
in leading a healthy lifestyle. Informing students about
PDHPE allows them a greater chance at achieving and
maintaining a healthy wellbeing. It also allows students
to have control over their own lives and express feelings,
make positive decisions and healthy and safe choices.
PDHPE gives students the opportunity to develop team
skills and relationships. They will also develop tolerance
and learn to value differences in others. PDHPE
encourages physical activity in maintaining a healthy and
high quality of life but also in order to understand the
body. It is important that PDHPE is educated in primary
schools as it has the potential to improve the quality of
life of not only the students but all individual’s within a
community.

• Bullying
• Child Pregnancy

5. What can you do as parents to help
encourage the importance of PDHPE in young
children?
• Pack healthy lunches for children so that they can
understand the importance of healthy choices from an
early age.
• Allow children to make decisions for themselves when
necessary. This will develop confidence, positive
decision making and allow children to learn from their
errors.
• Give children a choice and explain why it is important
to make positive choices.
• Make sure children participate in physical activity
every day whether it be playing a sport, having play
time at home or just helping around the house.
• Develop a close relationship with your children so that
they feel comfortable discussing topics such as sex
education, bullying, drug use, even insecurities and
changes.
• Be a role model to your children portraying the correct
way to communicate, speak and interact.
