Open access promises a great deal, but will your dataset be lost in cyberspace and remain unused? What are you doing to ensure discovery and utility for a range of publics? In this session you'll learn about the work done at OECD to make data both discoverable and useful to experts and lay users alike. You'll be introduced to OECD's citation tool and see some of the visualizations being developed to make data tell stories. You'll also see how OECD is presenting its datasets alongside books and journals in a single, seamless, service that is part of the global information network for researchers and students. Finally, Christmas comes early for anyone with an iPhone or iPad. Open Data? There's an OECD App for that.

Tourists and citizens have limited knowledge about Canterbury. The city does not have efficient means of offering cultural and architectural information to the tourists, also failing to engage young and elder citizens into the activities happening in town, allowing a decreasing level of human interactions.

CIS 3100 - Database Design and Implementation Products on Sale Database for Kahdea Inc. 1. Project Overview The activities in this project are designed to provide a better understanding of how data is organized into a relational database. A relational database enables management information systems to support inventory, transactions and business intelligence capabilities. Using Microsoft Access 2016, you will create and manage tables, perform data imports, link tables via relationships, create queries and finally create reports for executive summary. A general overview of relational database fundamentals and Microsoft Access training via Lynda.com is provided in section 11 to enable your success in this project. Please allow enough time to expose yourself to this material before starting the project. 2. Company Background Kahdea Inc. is a small startup company that sells sports merchandise online. The mission of the company is to successfully sell and deliver sports products for all. The company sells products for a wide variety of sports including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and volleyball. Kahdea is composed of twenty-eight (28) employees who work in different departments (production, operations, automation, accounting, human resources, finance, marketing, etc.). During their probation period, all employees are trained before being assigned into their positions. Kahdea is planning to have their annual sale next month. This sale is an important event for the company because it can typically generate 31% of Kahdea’s annual revenue. The company has been planning this sale for some time now, and wants to make sure all transactions are supported without issue. Your specific role in the project You are a new hire at Kahdea. During your training, you are expected to learn about building and maintaining relational databases using Microsoft Access. The database you will support is being used to keep track of Kahdea’s sales during this period. Although the database has been constructed, the team needs your assistance inserting data, using forms, creating queries and reports. Your first training task requires you to watch the Microsoft Access training videos on Lynda.com. A series of hyperlinks for reference information are provided for you at the end of this project document. After you become familiar with Microsoft Access, open the Kahdea.accdb file. 3. Create a Table Before you begin, the team wants to ensure you understand table structure. They would like you to create a table for Employees and populate a few records. The table should include the field names: EmployeeID(PK), Last Name, First Name, Phone and Attachments. · Step 1: Click the “Create” tab on the top ribbon and select “Table Design”. · Step 2: Enter the Field Names and Data Type. Include a Primary Key (EmployeeID) for the table. Select attachment as the data type for the Attachments field. · Step 3: Save the table as “Employee”. · Step 4: Ent ...

Barry Fong, Principal Social Policy Analyst at the Greater London Authority (GLA) will take us through the Survey of Londoners 2021-22. Conducted at the end of 2021, so just before the full effects of the cost-of-living crisis began to set in, it was commissioned to provide vital evidence on key social outcomes for Londoners, following the onset of COVID-19 and associated restrictions. A similar survey was conducted in 2018-19, so this survey would show how things had changed in the capital since then. Barry will go through some of the key findings from the survey before handing over to Michael Cheetham and Ellen Bloomer from the North East London Integrated Care Board, who collaborated with local authority partners to fund a sample boost for the survey within North East London. They will explain how they used the data, including the analyses, the results and how this impacted strategy and practice.

There is always a danger that the humanities are overlooked in favour of the social sciences or ‘hard’ sciences in research-policy engagement, when the former have an important role to play. The session will provide case studies and a facilitated discussion to better understand the potential implications and challenges for policymakers of engaging with humanities researchers. The London Strategy and Policy Network and the London Research and Policy Partnership invite you to join a session to explore the contributions that humanities research can make to policy by bringing together humanities researchers and policymakers from across the capital and beyond. Welcome and introduction (1:00 – 1:10pm) Chaired by: Professor Ben Rogers, Professor of Practice, University of London & Bloomberg Fellow to LSE Cities Overview: How can humanists and policymakers work together? Benefits and opportunities of humanities research and policy engagement (1:10 – 1:20pm) Presented by: Jo Fox, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Engagement) & Dean, School of Advanced Study, University of London. Case study 1: Lessons from ‘The Pandemic and Beyond: the Arts and Humanities Contribution to Covid Research and Recovery (1:20 – 1:30pm) Presented by: Pascale Aebischer, Professor of Shakespeare and Early Modern Performance Studies, University of Exeter and PI of The Pandemic and Beyond: the Arts and Humanities Contribution to Covid Research and Recovery, University of Exeter. Case study 2: Place-making, diversity and co-production: making visible the layers of London (1:30 – 1:40pm) Presented by: Justin Colston, Senior Lecturer at Institute of Historical Research, University of London. Q & A / Discussion (1:40 - 1:55pm) Closing remarks (1:55 - 2pm) ABOUT LRaPP: London Research and Policy Partnership (LRaPP) is a new partnership aimed at promoting greater synergy between London government and the academic research community. The Partnership is evolving among movements bringing universities and local communities, cities and regions closer together - the ‘civic universities agenda’. It encourages universities to use their expertise and organisational resources to address pressing public policy challenges. There are many examples of London's academics and public sector working together. Yet, most of these relationships develop in an ad hoc way. LRaPP takes a systematic approach through proactive and sustained engagement between the university and government sectors. London Strategy and Policy Network This network brings together people working in policy & strategy working in local government across London to learn new insights on cross-cutting issues and new methods in how to develop insight, policy, strategy & change. This helps them support their organisations make sense of how to tackle issues which cut across various services and that require a whole system approach across local places to tackle.

The Last Leaf is a short story by the American writer O. Henry (1862-1910) commonly known in the history of American literature as "the author of surprise ending". It tells the story of an old artist who saves the life of a young neighbouring artist, who is seriously ill and dying, by giving her the will to live. O. Henry knew people very well, especially the ordinary people of New York. In his stories you can feel satirical criticism of the American way of life. Most of his short stories are full of warm sympathy for ordinary American people.

Progress in understanding the molecular basis of primary neurulation has occurred on two fronts: neural induction and shaping and bending of the neural plate. In regard to the former, the neural plate is now known to be the default state of the ectoderm, and induction of the neural plate actually involves suppressing the formation of the epidermal ectoderm (neural induction is not considered further herein). In regard to shaping and bending of the neural plate, about 100 mutations in the mouse have been identified that result in defective shaping and/or bending and, consequently, result in neural tube defects (NTDs); thus, these mutations provide insight into which genes are involved in both normal and abnormal neurulation. Because these form-shaping events of neurulation are driven by changes in cell behavior, as discussed earlier, it is not surprising that mutation of cytoskeletal, extracellular matrix/cell adhesion, cell cycle, and cell death genes results in NTDs. Neurulation is a highly choreographed morphogenetic series of events that must be precisely timed and coordinated across multiple tissues. This presumably involves signaling among tissues. It is the hope of studies using mouse mutations that such signaling pathways will be identified, ultimately leading to an understanding of the molecular basis of neurulation and the formation of NTDs in both animal models and ultimately in humans. In the following sections, we discuss what has been learned about the molecular basis of shaping and bending of the neural plate.Embryology Neurulation is the critical morphogenetic event occurring during the fourth week of human gestation, converting the previously developed neural plate into the ectoderm covered neural tube that will eventually differentiate into the brain and spinal cord. Genetic regulation of the events involved in mammalian neural tube morphogenesis is a complicated process that involves a multitude of genes. These genes have vital functions in a range of biological activities that are thought to include signaling molecules, transcription proteins and factors, cytoskeletal and gap junction proteins, growth factors, and tumor suppressor genes (Copp et al., 2003; Ewart et al., 1997; Sah et al., 1995; Zhang et al., 1996). The neural tube, formed by the cell shape changes and movements, ultimately fuses at several discrete points.Neurulation (or primary neurulation) starts in the fourth week of gestation and is the process that leads to the formation of the neural tube from the neural plate, the rudiment of the CNS [34]. It encompasses four essential and overlapping events: (1) neural induction, (2) shaping, (3) bending of the neural plate, and (4) closure of the neural tube. Neural induction (1) is the process of neural plate formation, that is, the beginning of the development of the CNS. It occurs during gastrulation starting on day 18. As described earlier, cells of the ectoderm differentiate into the neuroectoderm, a pseudostratif.
