lifestyle

5. Computers & Laptops
Computers and laptops help counselors, staff, and clients in
many different ways. Computers and laptops…
o Provides record keeping
o Case notes can be kept electronically
o Saves physical storage
o Provides testing and quick results
o Makes online counseling or cyber counseling possible
o Appointment scheduling can be done online, as well
as cancelations and rescheduling
o Allows for secluded counselors to ask for advice from
other professionals

6. Phones and Cell Phones
Hard line phones have been around for some time, but they
are still vital for everyday communication. Cell phones are
relatively new and have some additional helping qualities
that hard line phones do not offer.
o Makes phone counseling possible
o SMS or text counseling is gaining popularity
especially with young adults and is made possible
because of cell phones
o Allows for instant communication
o Helps secluded clients and clients with no access to
internet reach out to distant counselors
o Used for appointments as well

7. Fingerprint Locks and Cameras
There are so many possibilities with new technology
Fingerprint locks make life easier by…
 Not requiring a key
 No memorization for a number pad lock
 No worries about losing a key and letting it fall into the wrong hands
 Many fingerprints can be added as well as temporary fingerprints
 If someone had access who does not need access anymore their
fingerprint can be quickly removed
 Cameras can be used for security purposes
 Cameras also could be used for client privacy by informing them
when there are no other individuals they will run into while leaving

8. Tablets
Tablet: A computer that is small and flat that allows the user
to write and draw freehand onto the screen.
Examples: Apple’s Ipad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, & Barnes &
Nobles’ Nook Tablet
App: is short for application program.

• Everything needs to be backed up onto another hard drive just incase a
computer crashes
• Privacy and security of client.
• If case notes, records, appointments are stored online they could be
accessed by someone else
• During an online counseling session the session could be assessed by a
non authorized individual, compromising the client
• Online, phone, or text counseling
• The counselor could miss cues that could be picked up in a face-to-face
counseling session
