3. Sustainability
Sustainability can be defined as something that has the ability
to maintain or to sustain itself. Sustainability is a significant
concept to contemplate throughout the redevopment of
Wentworth Point, as it is only made of renewable resources
which are designed to not impact on the environment.
My company have used large windows for natural light- this
reducing the amounts of electricity we use in our buildings
All of our building designs have incorporated environmentally
friendly and recycled materials.
We have also incorporated rainwater tanks- Using a rainwater
tank is great way to use a natural resource inside and outside
a building.
All buildings have included solar panels- this is a great
environmentally friendly way to use a natural resource to
produce electricity for the buildings.
All of these resources do not produce pollution therefore are
all environmentally friendly.

4. Sustainable Design Principles
Together as a group we have incorporated
sustainable design principles by environmentally
friendly and recycled materials. We also all have
included solar panels in our building designs, except
for our community centre which has a water smart
roof garden so the community can relax and enjoy
the tranquillity of nature.
All of our eco-friendly buildings have been designed
to include large windows and a rainwater tank, due
to it being a great way to use an important resource,
and it helps to conserve one of Australia’s scarcest
natural resource.
6. Aspects of Sustainable Design
In my building design I have incorporated solar
panels, rainwater tanks and environmentally
friendly recycled building materials. These
sustainable features are major aspects of the
Discovery Centre. They contribute to making
Wentworth point a more sustainable area.

7. Solar Panels
Solar energy improves sustainability when
used in a building as the sun is used to
produce electricity. This makes the
electricity bills a lot cheaper, producing
more money for other sustainable
materials and ideas. This creates the
building to even more sustainable for the
Discovery Centre.

8. Rainwater Tank
Water Tanks collect rainwater to provide fresh
water for the building and community.
When a rainwater tank is installed it reduces
your water consumption, saving money on
water bills. Fresh water from the water tank
can be used to provide water for inside an
outside the building, such as for flushing toilets,
washing clothes, watering gardens and fresh
drinking water for the community.

9. Environmentally Friendly and
Recycled Materials
In all of our building designs we will be using
environmentally friendly, recycled and
reclaimed materials. Reclaimed materials
include wood, paper, plastic, metal, rubber and
more. By reclaiming and using recycled
materials it reduces our dependency on natural
resources and helps keep waste out of landfills.
All materials will be environmentally friendly so it
will not harm the environment or produce
pollution. In a result of using these materials it will
last a long time whilst not harming the
environment, it is a functional and efficient for
the public and the company to use.
