Abstract: A cool property that high temperature superconductors possess is something explained by Meissner Effect. Which makes possible the levitation of superconducting magnets, when a magnetic pole of the same polarity is placed facing the former. In a complete vacuum if the superconductor is rotated at some particular speed probably very less than “c” some point on the rotating object might just be able to cross the temporal barrier.

General Relativity is inconsistent with quantum theory which leaves our understanding of nature incomplete and unsatisfactory. The now 80 years old quest for a consistent theory of quantum gravity has so far almost entirely focused on mathematical consistency. But as of recently the possibility to look for observational evidence has received an increased amount of attention, as a tool to provide guidance for the construction of of the theory. Here, I summarize recent developments in the search for experimental signatures for quantum gravitational effects and how these help to put constraints on the theory-construction. Some of the topics that I will cover are the prospects of finding Planck scale effects in gamma ray bursts, in neutral Kaon oscillations, or with massive quantum oscillators. If time allows, I will also comment on the search for holographic noise and how to find evidence for space-time discreteness.

The right explanation, I will argue, is instead a suitable combination of dark matter and modified gravity, which can be realized by the idea that dark matter has a superfluid phase.

The seemingly impossible task of recording what is beyond the line of sight is possible due to ultra‐fast imaging. A new form of photography, Femto-photography exploits the finite speed of light and analyzes 'echoes of light'. Femto-photography consists of femtosecond laser illumination, picosecond-accurate detectors and mathematical inversion techniques. By emitting short laser pulses and analyzing multi-bounce reflections we can estimate hidden geometry. In transient light transport, we account for the fact that speed of light is finite. Light travels ~1 foot/nanosecond and by sampling the light at pico-second resolution, we can estimate shapes with centimeter accuracy. Potential applications include search and rescue planning in hazardous conditions, collision avoidance for cars, and robots in industrial environments. Transient imaging also has significant potential benefits in medical imaging that could allow endoscopes to view around obstacles inside the human body.

This our Twelfth semiannual report on the global Cryptocurrency mining industry. Bitcoin is the world’s largest special purpose supercomputer. And it is globally decentralized. Millions of nodes all run the same open-source code to secure the Bitcoin network, create value, and put new transactions onto the distributed ledger. The latest Top500 list has just been announced at the ISC 2024 conference in Hamburg, and once again the Frontier supercomputer with 1.2 Exaflops peak performance is number one on the list. If assigned to SHA-256 hashing, Frontier would provide only the equivalent hash rate of about three cabinets of the latest high-end Bitcoin mining systems, costing less than 0.1% of Frontier’s cost. Michael Saylor, Chairman of MicroStrategy, has pointed out that GPUs are two orders of magnitude slower than the 5-nanometer technology of custom ASICs used for Bitcoin mining today. He makes the point that the Bitcoin network is unassailable by all of the hyperscale computing resources combined in AWS, Google, and Microsoft Azure cloud data centers today.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “Enterprise Knowledge Graphs: The Importance of Semantics” on May 9, 2024, at the annual Data Summit in Boston. In her presentation, Hedden describes the components of an enterprise knowledge graph and provides further insight into the semantic layer – or knowledge model – component, which includes an ontology and controlled vocabularies, such as taxonomies, for controlled metadata. While data experts tend to focus on the graph database components (RDF triple store or a label property graph), Hedden emphasizes they should not overlook the importance of the semantic layer.
