LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville remains undefeated at 7-0 in non-conference action, while West Texas A&M and Eastern New
Mexico have just one loss.
Lone Star Conference teams continue non-conference play this week.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 42-18 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 6-6
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 10-2 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Francisco Rodriguez, Tarleton State University, SR, OF, Punta de Mata, Venezuela, Nuestra Santa Patrona HS
Rodriguez was on fire at the plate as he led the Texans to a sweep of Arlington Baptist in last weekend's home-opening
series. The outfielder from Venezuela hit .636 in 11 at bats with a team-high seven RBI. He boasted two doubles and a
home run while scoring four runs and racking up 12 total bases for the series. He slugged 1.091 to go along with a .714
on-base percentage and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with three putouts in centerfield. He also stole two bases.
PITCHER
Tyler Lesley, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, San Antonio, Texas, Brandeis
Lesley pitched a gem in the series opener against Lubbock Christian, going eight strong innings while allowing just six
baserunners and no earned runs in the Rams victory. At one point he retired 10 straight batters, and the San Antonio
native helped himself out of the rare jam by striking out four batters and picking off his second baserunner of the
season.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jacob Boston, Angelo State University, was a force offensively during the weekend, reaching base eight times and
driving in four Ram runs. The Arizona native had a pair of doubles to up his slugging percentage and also played stellar
defense at third base, with three putouts and four assists.
Nick Canas, West Texas A&M University, had four outstanding games in a four-game sweep of Adams State as the
Buffs improved to 9-1 on the year. He is .385 on 5 of 13 from the dish with a team-high six runs scored, two doubles, one
triple and one inside-the-park home run. Canas slugged .923 for the week and reached base at a .500 clip with three
walks and he struck out twice, while having seven putouts in the outfield with no errors. Canas had multiple hits in
three of the four games and had at least one hit in nine of 10 games this season, while recording multiple hits in six. The
inside-the-park home run was the first for the Buffs since Trace Hansen did it against Tarleton State on Mar. 6, 2016.
Joe Corbett, West Texas A&M University, pitched another gem of a game in a 5-0 complete game shutout of Adams
State on Saturday. He went all seven innings for his first complete game shutout of the season for WT and the first of his
career at WT. Corbett allowed three hits with a career-high 13 strikeouts and two walks as Adams State hit just .130
against him. He improved to a team-best 3-0 on the year with 30 strikeouts to just four walks in 202 innings of work and
a 1.31 ERA in three starts.
Nathan Hickey, Tarleton State University, went the distance for his first complete-game shutout of the season in the
opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. The senior right-hander allowed only five soft hits scattered over seven
innings while striking out a career-high 11 to notch his first win of the season. On his way to his career-high 11
strikeouts, Hickey did not walk a single batter in the game.

The West Texas A&M baseball team swept a four game series at home against Adams State this week, using two
shutouts and dominating offensively, outscoring Adams State 34-3, including 19-2 on Sunday for the sweep...The Buffs
hit .297 on 33 of 111, while recording 10 doubles, one triple and four home runs, including an inside-the-park home run
by senior Nick Canas on Sunday, as well as a grand slam from junior Henry Hausman as the Buffs blasted three home
runs in the finale...WT drove in 29 runs and slugged .514, while reaching base at a .414 clip and went 7 of 8 in stolen
bases...WT had just two errors on the weekend leading to no unearned runs...The staff had a 0.84 ERA in 32 innings of
work, allowing 18 hits (.165 BA) with three earned runs, walked 14 and fanned 42...Adams State had just two extra-base
hits in the series, both doubles...Three Buffs had four or more hits in the series as Canas went 5 of 13 with a team-high
six runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one home run and three RBI...Canas hit an inside-the-park home run on Sunday
marking the first time WT had done that since Trace Hansen hit one against Tarleton State on Mar. 6, 2016...On the
bump, nine pitchers saw action in the series as junior Joe Corbett improved to 3-0 on the year with a complete game
shutout in seven innings, allowing three hits and fanning a career-high 13, while walking two...Junior Darin Cook earned
a win in relief, pitching five innings, allowing two hits, walking four and fanning six, while junior Braden Baker improved
to 2-0 on the year with a win in relief going 2.2 innings and fanning five...Senior starter Ryan Larison won the opener,
pitching five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk and fanned four...The Buffs hit the road at Arkansas-
Fort Smith this week for a three-game series...UAFS downed WT 2-1 in a three-game series in Canyon last year and
ended the Buffs' season in the NCAA regional, 3-1 last season in San Angelo, Texas...
