LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville leads the standings at 19-4 overall as Lone Star Conference baseball teams start league play this
week.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 98-67 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 10-13
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

HITTER
Luis Amaro, West Texas A&M University, SR, INF, Roselle Park, N.J., Roselle Park HS
Amaro had a strong week as WT split a four-game series with Angelo State. He went 7 of 15 from the dish (.467) with a
team-high five runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. He slugged a team-best 1.200 and reached base
at a .500 clip with one walk and two strikeouts. Amaro had 31 putouts in 31 chances with no errors. In the 19-9 finale
to even the series, Amaro went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, five RBI and two home runs.
PITCHER
Trent Baker, Angelo State University, FR, Pitcher, Georgetown, Texas, Georgetown HS
Baker was dominant in his game three start against West Texas A&M as the Rams won 4-2. He struck out seven batters
while allowing just two hits and one earned run during his time on the mound, limiting the Buffs to just a .111 batting
average overall. He now has 32 strikeouts on the year, which is tied for the second most on the team.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Alex DelaCruz, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong week as the Greyhounds took three out of four
games at UT Permian Basin. The senior second baseman batted .571 and drove in six runs in addition to stealing five
bases. DelaCruz hit safely in all four games with three multiple-hit games. In the finale, he registered three doubles. With
seven walks and just two strikeouts, he was extremely effective at the plate, while committing just one error in the field.
Tyler Fowler, Tarleton State University, hit .545 for the Texans in a three-game road sweep of Hardin-Simmons last
weekend. The sophomore third baseman was 6-for-11 at the dish with a double, a run scored, and two RBI. He also
boasted a 1.000 fielding percentage at third base with two putouts and four assists at the hot corner.
Levi Zents, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, hit .429 over the week as TAMUK went 4-1 with a win over Houston-
Victoria and a 3-1 series win over Cameron...Went 4-for-4 in the series clincher against the Aggies with two triples and
three RBI...Drew seven walks during the week for a .591 obp...Slugged .786 with his two triples and one double...Was
perfect from the hot corner in 16 chances...Improved his average to .390, leading all TAMUK hitters, while improving his
slugging pct. to .492 and OBP to .519...Fielding .962 from third base on the year.
Michael Urquidi, Angelo State University, led the Rams at the plate in a series split with West Texas A&M, hitting
.400 and reaching base nine total times on the weekend. In Friday's game alone, he was 4-4 with a pair of walks in the
ASU leadoff spot. He swiped two bags and drove in four runs as well.
Levi Shandrew, Eastern New Mexico University, provided 6.2 critical innings of relief in its series against UT Permian
Basin. In the finale, he entered a tie game in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out. He preserved the tie,
which allowed ENMU to explode offensively for the win. Shandrew tossed 3.2 scoreless innings to earn the win in that
contest, striking out four and allowing just one hit. He also garnered a save after pitching three one-hit innings in the
opener, with five strikeouts. Over those two appearances, he allowed a miniscule .091 batting average.
Conner Fletcher, Tarleton State University, stabilized things out of the bullpen in game three of the series as the
senior right-hander threw six innings of relief, allowing two runs - just one earned - on two hits and a walk with a team-
high eight strikeouts. Fletcher boasted a 1.50 ERA while the Cowboy hitters hit a mere .100 against him.
Tyler Flores, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, struck out seven in five innings across three appearances for the
Javelinas...Gave up one run and five hits without allowing a walk...Tallied his team-leading second save of the year as he
went three innings of one-run ball in game one of the series against Cameron, striking out three in the process...Leads
TAMUK's relievers with a 1.32 ERA on seven appearances and 13.2 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts and holding
opponents to a .231 batting average.

Rams split the series with West Texas A&M... Will play Cameron this weekend in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team used clutch pitching, strong hitting and opportunistic base running to
win their four-game series at UT Permian Basin. With 18 stolen bases, the Hounds crossed the century mark in that
category for the first time in a season in program history. Senior reliever Levi Shandrew made two appearances and
limited the Falcons to a .091 batting average over two appearances to earn a win and save. Alex DelaCruz pounded out
four doubles, which included three in the finale. This week, the Hounds will play #23 West Texas A&M.
Tarleton State
Tarleton handled Hardin-Simmons with a three-game road sweep last weekend. The Texans will open LSC play at home
against Kingsville this weekend.

West Texas A&M
The No. 23 West Texas A&M baseball team went 2-2 this week as it split a four game series with Angelo State as the
Buffs won the second and fourth games, including a nine-inning, extra-inning win (5-4) and a 19-9 victory in the finale
with 15 runs scored in one inning. The Buffs hit .356 for the series on 48 of 135 with 32 runs scored, five doubles, three
triples, four home runs and 27 RBI. The team slugged .526 and reached base at a .416 clip, while committing seven
errors leading to six unearned runs. Senior Luis Amaro hit three home runs for the Buffs and two in the finale as he was
7 of 15 from the plate with two doubles, five runs scored and 10 RBI. The staff had a uncharacteristic 7.03 ERA, allowing
45 hits, 31 runs-25 earned, walked 16 and fanned 33 as the Rams his .338 against it. WT opens the 2018 Lone Star
Conference season this week as it hosts Eastern New Mexico at Wilder Park for a four game series beginning Friday at 6
p.m.
