LSC BASEBALL
West Texas A&M is a perfect 8-0 to start Lone Star Conference play and tops the standings amid a nine-game winning
streak.
This week’s schedule includes conference contests on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14
determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings.
Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday.
The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games,
while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. This season, the top six teams play a single-elimination
championship on May 10-11-12, at the No. 1 seed.
LSC baseball teams are 124-91 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 10-13
combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Bradley Mathiowetz, Angelo State University, JR, Designated Hitter, Rochester, Minnesota, Rochester Mayo
Mathiowetz was force at the plate as the Rams won a series against Tarleton State last weekend. The redshirt junior hit
.563 while leading the team in hits, doubles, RBI and total bases. Mathiowetz capped off the weekend by going 5-for-5
with a walk, four runs and four RBI with a grand slam to center field. He hit safely in all four contests with a 2-for-4
outing in the second game Saturday with three RBI.
PITCHER
Tyler Lesley, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, San Antonio, Texas, Brandeis
Lesley was dominant in game one as the Rams took down Tarleton State 3-0. He gave up just four hits on the night and
allowed only six total baserunners throughout his seven innings on the mound. Only one Texan batter made it past first
base on the night, and it did not happen until Lesley's final inning on the mound. His seven strikeouts matched his
season high, which he hit twice before. The performance earned him his eighth win of the season, which is the second
most in the country.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Zach Shank, Eastern New Mexico University, clutch hitting (.615 average) allowed ENMU to split a four-game series
with Cameron last week. His batting average was nearly 300 points higher than the team as a whole (.317). In the second
game of the series, Shank batted 2-for-3 and drove in ENMU's first two runs to tie the game. He was a perfect 2-for-2
with a walk and RBI in the third game. Shank closed the series strong with a 4-for-5 performance and a stolen base.
Jimmy Cubillos, West Texas A&M University, was clutch for the Buffs in a hard-fought, four game sweep of UT
Permian Basin this week to keep WT perfect in conference play at 8-0. He led the team with nine hits in 17 at bats,
scoring a team-high seven runs, with one double and five RBI. Cubillos slugged .588 and reached base at a .636 clip to
lead the team with four walks and a hit batsmen. He had eight put outs in the outfield in eight chances, while singling
home two runs in the top of the 12th in the finale for the 11-7 win and the sweep. He also had a two RBI single in the
eighth to give WT its first lead of the game at 6-5. He went 2 for 5 in the finale with a run scored and four RBI and
recorded two or more hits in each of the four games in the series, while scoring at least one run in each of the four
games.
Blake Adams, Tarleton State University, had four hits and drove in five RBI for the Texans in a four-game series at
Angelo State last weekend.
Dominic Yearego, West Texas A&M University, went a career-best 7.2 innings in relief for his third win of the season
and ninth of his career, allowing six hits, two unearned runs, no walks and he fanned five as he held UTPB to a .200
average. He allowed just one extra-base hit as WT won 9-6 in 11 innings on Saturday in the first game of a
doubleheader. His previous longest outing was five innings against Tarleton State last season. On Saturday, he replaced
starter Ryan Larison in the fourth inning and went the rest of the way.
Levi Shandrew, Eastern New Mexico University, tossed five innings of outstanding relief last week, to help the ENMU
baseball team split a Lone Star Conference series with Cameron. In five innings of work, the senior right hander held the
Aggies to one single with nine strikeouts and no walks. Shandrew garnered a two-inning save in the finale with four
strikeouts.
Nathan Hickey, Tarleton State University, was solid in game two of a four-game series at No. 16 Angelo State as the
senior right-hander kept the Rams off the board for six innings while the Texans built a 4-0 lead. Hickey earned the win
with a final line of 6.1 innings of work, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four.

Rams won a home series three games to one against Tarleton State... Scored 26 runs in game four, which was the
second most in a single game in program history... also matched single-game records for walks (13), RBI (26) and home
runs (6) in the series finale... Will travel to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville this weekend.

Eastern New Mexico
Outstanding performances from seniors Zach Shank and Levi Shandrew highlighted last week for the Eastern New
Mexico baseball team. Shandrew picked up two saves and limited Cameron to just one hit over five innings with nine
strikeouts and one walk. Shank batted a team-best .615 and drove in two runs in the second game of the series, with the
Hounds facing a 2-0 deficit. Eurick Perez and Garlind Webster both registered homeruns for ENMU. In the finale, the
Greyhounds saw Cameron's closer for the second time of the series. After not getting a hit against the right hander in
the opener, ENMU adjusted and sent nine batters to the plate in the eighth inning to score four runs in a 12-5 win. The
victory marked Head Coach David Gomez's 100th with Eastern, making him the second coach in program history to
reach that mark. This week, the Hounds will visit Tarleton State.
Tarleton State
Tarleton won one of four at No. 16 Angelo State last weekend. The Texans will return home this weekend for a four-
game series with Eastern New Mexico.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The TAMUK baseball program had the weekend off following a one-game affair against Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday,
March 27. The Javelinas turned in an 8-1 win over the Saints while using 25 total players over the course of the game
and were sparked by Austin Ingraham's two-run shot in the bottom of the first to move head coach Jason Gonzales to
career win 299.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin baseball went 0-4 in Lone Star Conference action in a home series against #9 West Texas A&M. UTPB
forced the Buffs to extra innings twice in the four-game set. Mike Fernandez led the Falcons with seven hits, batting .412
on the weekend (7-17) with a team-leading four runs. Ten different Falcons drove in a run on the weekend. Nick Bartley
threw five scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and a walk in one outing. Ivan Thomas tossed six innings of one-
run ball in the series finale, striking out six and giving up four hits and three walks.
West Texas A&M
The Buffs swept a four-game series at UT Permian Basin as they improved to a perfect 8-0 in conference play and 26-7
overall running their winning streak to a season-high nine games...The series featured two extra-inning games as WT
won 9-6 in 11 innings on Saturday and 11-7 in 12 innings on Sunday for the sweep...WT trailed in each of the final three
games of the series after opening it Thursday with a 10-1 win...WT hit .305 for the series on 46 of 151, while scoring 37
runs with nine doubles, two home runs and drove in 33...The team slugged .404 and reached base at a .438 clip with 21
walks and had 17 batters reach base on hit batsmen for a season-high...The Buffs went 4 of 6 in stolen bases and had
eight errors leading to five unearned runs...The Buffs scored seven runs in extra-innings for the two wins in free baseball
as UTPB hit .273 for the series with 42 hits in 154 at bats, scoring 19 runs with 12 doubles and two triples...UTPB
4. committed seven errors leading to one unearned run...Head coach Matt Vanderburg won his 300th game at WT in the
opener and won his 400th game overall in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday...On the mound, the Buffs
had a 3.23 ERA in 39 innings, allowing 19 runs - 14 earned, walked 15 and fanned 35...Junior Dominic Yearego went a
career-high 7.2 innings for a win as he improved to 9-0 all-time at WT in the 9-6 win in 11 innings on Saturday...Junior
Braden Baker saw action in two games with a save in relief, going seven innings, while junior starter Joe Corbett earned
his sixth win of the season in seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, walked two and fanned seven...The Buffs
are off this week, before returning home to host Cameron April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Wilder Park.
