LSC FOOTBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce clinched its first Lone Star Conference title since 1990 and the program’s 21st
championship following the 48-21 win over West Texas A&M last week to improve to 5-0 in league games.
Four teams - Angelo State, Midwestern State, WT, and Tarleton State - are tied for second place with identical
3-2 LSC records.
Here is a closer look at last week’s games:
• A&M-C won its fifth-straight game over WT.
• ASU defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 57-31 for just the sixth time in program history.
• MSU defeated McMurry 71-13 to snap a two-game skid.
• TSU earned its second straight win with another record-setting performance over Eastern New Mexico.
This week’s schedule includes four LSC contests with A&M-C at MSU, ENMU at ASU, TAMUK at WT, and TSU
at McM.
LSC football teams are 28-24 overall this season. The squads are 5-1 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
LSC FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
After playing seven conference games apiece over the first nine weeks of an 11-week regular season, the Lone
Star Conference’s eight football teams will split into two brackets to conduct a two-week conference playoff.
The conference champion and playoff seeding will be determined by regular season results with the higher
seeds hosting each round.
The top four teams (No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 at No. 2) comprise the championship bracket with Week 10
winners playing for the playoff title in Week 11, whereas Week 10 losers will meet for third place. The other
half of the bracket includes the remaining four teams with No. 8 at No. 5 and No. 7 at No. 6 in Week 10. The
winners will play for fifth-place in Week 11, while the losers meet in the seventh-place game.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Collin Strahan, Tarleton State University, JR, QB, Mesquite, Texas, Horn HS
Strahan continued his record-setting first season as the starting quarterback of the Tarleton Texans last weekend
as the signal caller from Mesquite lifted the Texans to their second straight win with a 59-42 victory over
Eastern New Mexico, who entered the game as the top defensive team in the conference, in Blackwater Draw,
N.M. Strahan had a part of seven Tarleton touchdowns, including five through the air and two on the ground.
He got the Texans on the board on the first three possessions of the game to give Tarleton a commanding 21-0
lead just 8:32 into the contest. His third touchdown broke the school’s senior college-era record for the longest
run from scrimmage as he broke loose on an 89-yard scoring run, which topped Ricky Bush’s record run of 85
yards set in 1981. For the game, Strahan broke his own school record for rushing by a quarterback for the third
time this season with 157 yards and the two scores on 14 carries while also throwing for a career-high 386 yards
and five touchdowns on 20-33 passing. The Texan QB accounted for 543 of Tarleton’s school-record 663 total
yards of offense, which is now also the new Tarleton standard for individual offense as Strahan broke Kevin
Vickers’ 1994 record of 477 yards in a single game.
DEFENSIVE
Cole Pitts, Texas A&M University - Commerce, JR, LB, Alvin, Texas, Alvin HS
Pitts led the No. 23 ranked Lions past West Texas A&M limiting the Buffs offense to only 398 yards in the
48-21 win. The Pitts led A&M-C defense limited the Buffs to just three plays in the first quarter while the
Lions dominated time of possession to a tune of 11:29 to 3:31. In the second quarter, Pitts had four of his 10
tackles, but it was the second half where he established himself. In the third quarter, he had three more tackles
including 1.5 for a loss, but his biggest contribution came at the end of third when he picked off a pass and took
it 50 yards for the touchdown. It was Pitts’ first career pick and first career touchdown. In the fourth quarter,
he added three more tackles including a pair of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. All told, the Lions limited
the Buffs to only 153 yards through the air. A&M-Commerce, ranked second in the NCAA in tackles for a loss,
accumulated 10 tackles behind the line.
SPECIAL TEAMS
D’Maujeric Tucker, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, PR/KR, Lubbock, Texas, Frenship HS
Tucker sparked the Greyhounds in the second half of Saturday’s game against Tarleton State with a 100-yard kick
return. The run marked the second time in his career he has scored on a kickoff return with the other coming at
West Texas A&M last season. It also was the fifth 100-yard kick return in team history. Tucker averaged 42 yards
on three returns in the game and caught a 27-yard pass.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
E’lon Spight, Eastern New Mexico University, averaged at least seven yards on more than 25 carries against
a Lone Star Conference opponent for the second straight week. He churned out a career-high 193 yards and
crossed the goal line three times against Tarleton State. Of his 27 carries, nine resulted in Greyhound first

downs. Spight has scored at least one touchdown in
all seven of Eastern’s games this season and seven in
the last two games.
Geremy Alridge-Mitchell, West Texas A&M
University, had his fifth consecutive game of over 100
yards rushing as he had 160 yards on 28 carries with
two touchdowns at No. 23 Texas A&M-Commerce
Saturday. A-Mitchell’s 160 yards is the second-highest
output of the season for him and he has
scored two touchdowns in three consecutive games.
He has 765 yards on the ground on 160 carries and 10
touchdowns.
Hagen Hutchinson, Midwestern State University,
making his collegiate debut in the second half,
directed the Mustangs to four touchdowns as
Midwestern State pounded McMurry 71-13. The
6-2, 185 pound redshirt freshman from Stamford
collected 188 yards of total offense and accounted
for three touchdowns in the win. Hutchinson rushed
for 106 yards on 10 carries with touchdown runs of
three (his first collegiate TD) and 46 yards. He also
connected on 6-of-7 passes for 82 yards and tossed
his first collegiate touchdown pass with a 14-yard
strike to Jerryl Yarbrough. MSU rolled up a season
best 566 yards in the win.
Kyle Washington, Angelo State University, tied a
career high with four passing touchdowns and two
rushing touchdowns as the Rams racked up 615 yards
of offense in a 57-31 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The junior quarterback threw for 292 yards in the air
on 19-of-30 passing. Washington hit eight different
receivers on the night. He carried the ball seven times
for 45 yards averaging 6.4 yard per carry. It marks the
fourth game of at least 250 yards in through air this
season and the first of four touchdowns. The Humble
native leads the LSC with 345.7 yards of total offense
per game.
Tyrik Rollison, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
led the No. 23 Lions to a 48-21 win over West Texas
as A&M-Commerce clinched at worst a share of
the Lone Star Conference Championship. Rollison
distributed the ball to eight different receivers for a
total of 355 yards and three TDs in just over three
quarters of play as he saw limited action in the fourth
quarter. The highlight of the game was a 61-yard
bomb to Ricky Collins, one of three TD connections
by the duo, when Rollison stepped up to avoid the
rush and hit the open Collins for a TD. The score
gave the Lions a 16-14 lead in the second quarter -- a
lead they would not relinquish. Following a surprise
onside kick, Rollison was masterfully connecting on
three of his four passes for 34 yards as the Lions put
the game out of reach taking a 23-14 lead late in the
second quarter. In the Lions 25-point third quarter,
Rollison was spectacular going 4-of-5 for 106 yards
and two TDs -- passes of 28 and 27 yards. His 355
yards through the air was the second highest total
given up by the Buffs defense who entered the game
allowing just 222.5 passing yards per game.
Trevor Moses, Texas A&M University - Kingsville,
registered a season-high 17 tackles in Saturday’s loss
to Angelo State... the Corpus Christi native recorded
four solo tackles and one quarterback hurry to lead
all players.
Marc Martinez, Tarleton State University, was a
dominant defender for the Tarleton State Texans
as he led his squad to their second-straight win last
weekend with a 59-42 victory in Black Water Draw.
Martinez and the Tarleton defense dominated the
Greyhounds over the opening first half while the
Texan offense built an insurmountable 38-7 lead at
halftime. Martinez accounted for 14 tackles and was
in on a quarterback sack. In Tarleton’s dominant first
half, the Texans were holding Eastern New Mexico to
less than 200 yards of total offense.
Marqui Christian, Midwestern State University,
paced the Mustangs to their best defensive
performance of the season as Midwestern State
ripped McMurry 71-13. Christian posted his fourth
straight double-digit tackle game of the season as
MSU, recording all of his stops in the game’s first
three quarters. The 6-1, 200 pound junior from
Spring, Texas, tallied 11 tackles (six solo), including
his first career sack for a loss of seven yards in the
second quarter, and a pass breakup. MSU held the
War Hawks to 245 total yards and 13 points, season
lows for McMurry and season bests for MSU.
Seth Bailey, Eastern New Mexico University, paced
the Greyhound defense against Tarleton State, with
10 tackles, which included 2.5 for a loss. He also had
an interception during Eastern’s second-half rally and
blocked a field goal.
Bubba Tandy, Tarleton State University, tallied
a season-high 76 punt return yards on three punt
returns, including a team-best return of 64 yards.
Combining with 98 receiving yards, Tandy totaled 174
all-purpose yards on just five touches.
Paul Mason, Angelo State University, sparked
the Rams in the second quarter with a punt return
touchdown. The senior returned the punt 41-yards
for his second career punt return touchdown and the
first by ASU since 2012.
Mitchell Henton, Midwestern State University,
helped the Mustangs control field position in
Midwestern State’s 71-13 win over McMurry. The
6-2, 205 pound redshirt freshman punted three times
140 yards, averaging 46.7 yards, with no returns.
Henton had a long of 50 yards, had another punt fair
caught at the five and the third skip through the end
zone for a touchback. Henton leads the Lone Star
Conference in punting with an average of 42.7 yards a
punt.
Chase Thrasher, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
was instrumental in the No. 23 Lions 48-21 win over
WT. Thrasher pinned the Buffs inside their on 20 yard
line three times with punts. He also aided in stifling
the Buffs return game with two touchbacks. All
told, the Buffs started five drives inside of their own
25-yard line, including one drive inside the 15, due
Thrasher’s kickoffs. On arguably one of the biggest
momentum changing plays of the game and with the
contest still undecided, Thrasher executed a perfect
29-yard surprise onside kick just over the front line
of the Buffs. The ball was recovered by the Lions and
one play later, A&M-Commerce found pay dirt with
a touchdown that seemingly put the game out of
reach.

McMurry
One of the bright spots for McMurry – as has been
the case most of the season – was senior wide
receiver Jeret Smith. For the third-consecutive week,
Smith surpassed the century mark in receiving yards,
making seven catches for 141 yards in the setback
at Midwestern State. Smith moved up to the No. 2
spot all-time for receptions at McM, with 164 grabs

MSU has won seven of the last eight meetings against
A&M-Commerce.
Tarleton State
Tarleton State earned its second straight win with
another record-setting performance last Saturday.
Led by 543 total yards of offense from QB Collin
Strahan, Tarleton State set a new senior college-era
record of 663 total yards en route to a 59-42 win over
the Greyhounds in Blackwater Draw, NM. Strahan
wasn’t the only one to etch his name into the Tarleton
record books, however, as Clifton Rhodes III hauled in
five passes on the night to become the new all-time
reception leader in school history and break Harlan
Wunsch’s 45-year old record of 188. Le’Nard Meyers
also had a career night as he became the second
Texan since 1961 to catch four touchdowns in a single
game. The Texans are now 3-3 and 3-2 in LSC play and
will travel to Abilene for a 2 p.m. against McMurry
Saturday.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions clinched their first LSC title since 1990 and
the program’s 21st championship following the 48-
21 win over West Texas A&M. A&M-Commerce can
wrap up the No. 1 seed in the LSC playoff with a win
Saturday over Midwestern State.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
A quick start for the Javelinas gave the Homecoming
crowd a 10-0 lead following a 26-yard field goal by
Max Lehnig and back-to-back firsts as an interception
by Trevor Pesek led to a Deondric Lofton touchdown.
However, Angelo State University (4-3, 3-2 LSC)
showcased its nationally-ranked offensive attack en
route to a 57-31 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville
(1-6, 0-5 LSC) on Saturday evening at Javelina
Stadium. The Rams entered Kingsville ranked No.
15 nationally, averaging 41.8 points per game. With
the victory, Angelo State puts an end to a seven-game
losing streak when visiting Javelina Stadium
for TAMUK’s Kleberg Bank Homecoming game. The
Javelinas still lead the all-time series, 33-15. Pesek’s
interception was the first of the season for TAMUK
and after returning the pick for 28 yards, Trey Mitchell
found Daniel Ramirez for 18 yards to enter the ASU
red zone. Shawn Vasquez rushed for 14 yards before
Lofton’s first career touchdown to give the Blue and
Gold a 10-0 advantage with 3:57 left to play in the
opening quarter.
West Texas A&M
The Buffs’ four game winning streak came to an end
with a 48-21 loss at No. 23 Texas A&M-Commerce
Saturday evening...With the loss, the Buffs fell to 4-3
on the year and 3-2 in Lone Star Conference play and
are tied for second in the league standings with two
games remaining in the regular season...Despite the
setback, WT junior running back Geremy Alridge-
Mitchell tallied his fifth consecutive game of over
100 yards rushing with 160 yards on 28 carries and
two touchdowns...His two touchdowns also marked
the third consecutive game of having two TD’s on
the ground...The offense struggled for portions of
the game as WT had an uncharacteristic season-high
four turnovers in the game with a season-high three
interceptions and one lost fumble...The Buffs had a
season-high 245 yards rushing...The defense didn’t
register a sack for just the second time this season
and had a season-low three tackles for loss...Senior
wide receiver Anthony Johnson tallied 58 yards on
five catches as he moved into the top 10 all-time
in receiving yards...Johnson has 1,967 career yards
surpassing Duane Joubert (1992-1995) for 10th all-time
in school history…Joubert had 1,952 career
yards…Johnson needs just 14 catches to move
into the top 10…Junior Jarrian Rhone caught his
first touchdown of the season against Texas A&M-Commerce
as he had three receptions for 31 yards
in the game…Rhone’s touchdown brought the Buffs
within 9-7 in the second quarter and was his eighth
career receiving touchdown…This Saturday, the
Buffs return home for Senior Day as the team has
16 players playing in their final regular season home
game against Texas A&M-Kingsville…WT is 11-16-
1 all-time against TAMUK…The Javelinas haven’t
visited Canyon since a 23-17 overtime victory on
Sept. 27, 2009….The Buffs and Javelinas have played
in Kingsville in 2010 and 2013 and at the LSC Festival
in Arlington in 2011 and 2012…WT has won three-straight
in the series and seven of nine since 2005…
The Buffs are just 3-8 at home against TAMUK since
1946…A win over the Javelinas would give WT a 5-3
record overall and a 4-2 mark in LSC play…Would be
the 494th win in school history (493-489-22)…Would
be the 16th win for head coach Mike Nesbitt in his
two-year career at WT (15-6).
