LSC FOOTBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce claimed its 22nd Lone Star Conference Championship with a perfect 6-0 record in
league play. The Lions are back-to-back champions for the first time since the 1958-59 seasons.
With one week of LSC action remaining, the Lions have clinched the No. 1 seed for the two-week conference
playoff. Midwestern State is No. 2 and Texas A&M-Kingsville is the seventh seed with the rest of the field to be
determined after Saturday’s games.
After playing six conference games apiece over the first nine weeks of an 11-week regular season, the
league’s football teams will split into two brackets to conduct a two-week conference playoff. The conference
champion and playoff seeding will be determined by regular season results.
The top four teams (No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 at No. 2) comprise the championship bracket with Week 10
winners playing for the playoff title in Week 11, whereas Week 10 losers will meet for third place. The other half
of the bracket includes the remaining three teams and Oklahoma Panhandle State with No. 5 at OPSU and No.
7 at No. 6 in Week 10. The 7-6 winner plays at No. 5 for fifth-place in Week 11, while the 6-7 loser hosts OPSU.
LSC football teams are 31-23 overall this season. The squads are 9-1 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, RB, Clovis, N.M., Clovis HS
Cass scored three touchdowns and set career-highs with 28 carries and 188 rushing yards against an Angelo
State team which led the Lone Star Conference in total defense. His performance paced the Hounds to a single-
game record 583 rushing yards, just three away from the league’s record set in 1978. He scored the team’s first
two touchdowns and broke a 71-yard sprint in the fourth quarter for his final score of the day. He carried the
ball five times on third down and converted for a first down four times.
DEFENSIVE
Cole Pitts, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, LB, Alvin, Texas, Alvin HS
Pitts led the Lions defense with nine total tackles in the Lone Star Conference Championship clinching win over
Midwestern State, 27-14. The senior added an interception, a forced fumble and a pass break up in the Lions
defensive effort. On the game, A&M-Commerce forced six turnovers and held MSU to 315 total yards in the
win. Pitts’ pick came in the second quarter and led to a Lions touchdown which gave the Lions a 21-0 lead right
before the half.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Felipe Parra, West Texas A&M University, JR, P, Center, Texas, Center HS
Parra had a career night for the Buffs in a 24-14 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. He had four punts for
a 48.2 average, including a career-long 76 yard punt turning field position late in the game with the 76-yarder
getting the Buffs out of deep in their own end pinning the Javelinas at their own seven. He had two punts inside
the 20 and on touchback. The 76-yarder was the longest since Kevin Van Voris had a 72-yarder at Midwestern
State on Nov. 16, 2013.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Geremy Alridge-Mitchell, West Texas A&M University, returned to workhorse status for the Buffs in a 24-14
win at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night as the Buffs snapped a three-game skid. Alridge-Mitchell set a new
school-record for carries with 45 for 149 yards and one touchdown. He broke his own record of 40 carries set at
Midwestern State Oct. 10. Alridge-Mitchell has 973 yards rushing on the year with 10 touchdowns for a 131.9
average per game.
Richard Cooper, Texas A&M University - Commerce, has been the most consistent player in the Lone Star
Conference in 2015. Cooper has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the first eight games for the Lions setting a
new Lion school record. He is two games away from setting the school record for most 100-yard rushing games
in a single-season. He hit right at 100 yards on 21 carries in the Lions Lone Star Conference Championship
clinching win over Midwestern State, 27-14. Cooper is the only running back in the LSC to record 100 rushing
yards in every game of the season and is one of four running backs in the NCAA with 100 yards rushing in every
game in 2015.
Zed Woerner, Tarleton State University, put on an offensive clinic from the quarterback position as the
sophomore signal caller led Tarleton to a school-record 84 points in last weekend’s victory over Oklahoma
Panhandle State. Woerner completed 29-40 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns in his turnover-free
effort. He completed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Le’Nard Meyers and played a turnover-free game. This was
Tarleton’s first five-touchdown passing effort since 2014 and Woerner’s second career 400-yard passing game.
AA Vaaulu, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, led Texas A&M-Kingsville in tackles with a career-high 14. He
had a couple big smacks to hold the West Texas A&M running backs to no gain or a loss. Vaaulu helped out to
record half a sack for two yards and finished with two tackles behind the line of scrimmage totaling seven yards.
Cody Burtscher, Tarleton State University, led the Tarleton defense with 11 total tackles, becoming the only
Texan to crack double-figure stops. He also had one sack for a four-yard loss and another 1.5 tackles for a loss
of four yards.

	 De’Aundre Sanders, Eastern New Mexico
University, made six tackles against Angelo State and
made a 35-yard interception return in the second
quarter, to set the Greyhounds up at the Angelo State
one-yard line. Eastern scored two plays later to take a
28-7 lead. Sanders’ performance helped ENMU limit
the LSC’s second ranked team in total offense to 15
points and 50 rushing yards in the first half. In the
second quarter, Sanders also broke up a third-down
pass, to thwart a scoring opportunity.
Daelin Young, West Texas A&M University, was all
over the field in the Buffs’ 24-14 win at Texas A&M-
Kingsville Saturday evening. Young had five total
tackles with four solo stops, along with 1.5 sacks for
13 yards and 1.5 tackles for loss for 13 yards. Young
and the Buffs held TAMUK to 193 yards of total
offense in the game which was a season-low against
WT and a season-low 57 yards passing allowed.
Isaac Arellano, Tarleton State University, saved his
best performance of the season for his senior night.
The senior punter booted three punts – two of which
landed inside the 20 – for a total of 141 yards and
an average of 47.0 yards per punt. His longest kick of
the night went for 63 yards, marking the first 60-yard
punt for Tarleton since Arellano booted his career-
high long of 72 in 2013. Arellano also kicked off 11
times for an average of 50.4 yards per kick with one
touchback.
Timothy Callian, Eastern New Mexico University,
had a standout day for the Greyhounds on special
teams with five touchbacks on eight kickoffs and a
career-best 41-yard field goal. He also averaged a
season-best 46.5 yards on two punts, to help maintain
strong field position for Eastern against Angelo State.
Callian went five-for five on PAT attempts and finished
the game with eight points.
Buck Wilson, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
opened the second half with a 66-yard kickoff return
setting the Lions up for great field position. Wilson
alsocaughthisfirstreceivingtouchdowninthesecond
quarter to give the Lions a 21-0 lead in the A&M-
Commerce’s Lone Star Conference Championship
clinching win over Midwestern State, 27-14. Wilson

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University football team
played its final scheduled contest at Blackwater
Draw and registered an incredible performance.
Kamal Cass, Jeremy Buurma, and Tayshaun Gary all
topped the 100-yard mark in the running game, while
the Hounds’ 583 yards in the ground game came
within three of the LSC record, set in 1978. Two early
turnovers helped Eastern build a 28-7 lead as Eastern
held the ball approximately 23 minutes in the first
half. Eastern continued to pull away for its first home
win over the Rams since the 2005 season. Next week,
the Greyhounds will visit West Texas A&M for the
annual Wagon Wheel Game.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State suffered its first loss of the season
27-14 at Texas A&M-Commerce to fall to 7-1 on
the season... The Mustangs have clinched the No. 2
seed and will play host to the No. 3 seed in the LSC
Postseason Playoffs on Nov. 7 at Memorial Stadium...
MSU closes the regular season with a Homecoming
battle with Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at
Memorial Stadium... The loss snapped the second
best start in school history at 7-0... It was the fifth
time in school history the Mustangs enjoyed a seven-
game winning streak... It was just the second loss in
11 games against teams ranked in the AFCA Division
II Top 25 since the start of the 2011 season for MSU...
Midwestern held Texas A&M-Commerce 131 under
its season average of 501 yards of total offense as the
Lions ranked 14th in NCAA Division II coming into the
contest... It was the first time this season the Lions
failed to score 30 points... MSU senior safety Marqui
Christian made six tackles to move into a tie for
second on the team’s all-time tackle list with Teddy
Martyniuk (266 from 1988-91) and needs two to
move past Ryan Craven (267 from 2007-10) to top the
list... Senior linebacker Daniel Laudermilk made eight
tackles to up his career total to 220... Junior defensive
lineman Edgar Luna matched a season high with eight
tackles and was in a stop for a loss... Senior defensive
end Harold Wills made seven tackles to up his season
total to 30... The Mustangs’ six turnovers were the
most since giving up six in a 44-17 win at Texas A&M-
Kingsville on Oct. 21, 2006... Junior wide receiver
Statron Jones made a game-high seven catches for
71 yards... Jones passed Darius Richard to move into
10th place on MSU’s all-time receiving yardage list
with 1,099 on 71 receptions... Junior quarterback
Quade Coward completed 14-of-26 passes for 126
yards and a touchdown while leading the team in
rushing for the third time this season running for 44
yards on eight carries... Coward left the game with
an injury in the fourth quarter after sustaining a late
hit out of bounds by Texas A&M-Commerce’s Traven
Johnson...
Tarleton State
Tarleton amassed 658 yards in an 84-47 rout over
Oklahoma Panhandle State at Memorial Stadium,
setting a new school record for points in a game.
The Texans’ offense had no issues with the blistering
50-degree temperatures and 20-mph winds with
a light rain throughout the night, especially when
it came to quarterback Zed Woerner throwing the
football. Woerner threw for 413 yards on 29-of-40
attempts for a career-high five touchdowns. It’s the
sophomore’s second career 400-yard passing game.
The running game was just as effective for Tarleton
as the Texans ran 245 yards with seven of the 12
touchdowns coming on the ground.
Texas A&M-Commerce
With the win, the Lions improve to 7-1 on the season
and 6-0 in the LSC claiming the program’s 22nd title
and first back-to-back championship run since the
1958-59 seasons. The 22 LSC titles is the second
most in conference history... The win gave the Lions a
6-0 record in the Lone Star Conference. It is the first
time since 1990 the Lions have gone undefeated in
the LSC play and the 11th time in program history....
With his 100 yards, Richard Cooper became the first
Lion to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season since

2005, when Cliff Edwards ran for 1,041 yards. On the
year, Cooper has 1,017 yards which is 13th on the
Lions single-season rushing record list. He needs just
12 yards to move into 12th ahead of Craig Powell’s
1,029 yards in 1972 and 24 yards to move into 11th
place head of Cliff Edwards’ 1,041 yards in 2005...
Cooper is the only running back in the LSC to record
100 rushing yards in every game of the season and is
one of four running backs in the NCAA with 100 yards
rushing in every game in 2015. Cooper extended his
streak and the Lion school record to eight... The Lions
are still one of only four teams in the NCAA with two
running backs averaging 100 yards rushing per game

his first pass as a Lion... Darian Lindsey’s interception
was his first of the season and fourth of his career...
Tre’von Taylor earned at least one sack in his second
straight game after a two-sack performance at West
Texas. Taylor leads the Lions with five and a half sacks
on the season giving him 12.5 for his career. The
sophomore is five sacks away from breaking the Lion
career sacks record set by Tevin Moore from 2011
to 2013... The Lions caused six total turnovers in the
game the most in the Carthel era.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville fell on a misty night to West
Texas A&M 24-14... Final scheduled home game

as it won 24-14 at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday
evening snapping a three-game skid heading into
next Saturday’s annual Wagon Wheel Game against
Eastern New Mexico at Kimbrough Memorial
Stadium...The Buffs were led by senior Geremy
Alridge-Mitchell who was a workhorse once again
setting a school-record 45 carries for 149 yards and
one score...G. A-Mitchell broke his own school-record
for carries as he had 40 at Midwestern State on Oct.
10...G. A-M has 973 yards rushing on the season...
The Buff “D” held TAMUK to just 193 yards of total
offense and just 56 yards passing which both were
season-bests for the Buffs...Junior punter Felipe Parra

  • 1. Integrity | Tradition | Academic Excellence | LONE STAR CONFERENCE | Community | Respect | Commitment LSC FOOTBALL Texas A&M-Commerce claimed its 22nd Lone Star Conference Championship with a perfect 6-0 record in league play. The Lions are back-to-back champions for the first time since the 1958-59 seasons. With one week of LSC action remaining, the Lions have clinched the No. 1 seed for the two-week conference playoff. Midwestern State is No. 2 and Texas A&M-Kingsville is the seventh seed with the rest of the field to be determined after Saturday’s games. After playing six conference games apiece over the first nine weeks of an 11-week regular season, the league’s football teams will split into two brackets to conduct a two-week conference playoff. The conference champion and playoff seeding will be determined by regular season results. The top four teams (No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 at No. 2) comprise the championship bracket with Week 10 winners playing for the playoff title in Week 11, whereas Week 10 losers will meet for third place. The other half of the bracket includes the remaining three teams and Oklahoma Panhandle State with No. 5 at OPSU and No. 7 at No. 6 in Week 10. The 7-6 winner plays at No. 5 for fifth-place in Week 11, while the 6-7 loser hosts OPSU. LSC football teams are 31-23 overall this season. The squads are 9-1 combined versus the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSIVE Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, RB, Clovis, N.M., Clovis HS Cass scored three touchdowns and set career-highs with 28 carries and 188 rushing yards against an Angelo State team which led the Lone Star Conference in total defense. His performance paced the Hounds to a single- game record 583 rushing yards, just three away from the league’s record set in 1978. He scored the team’s first two touchdowns and broke a 71-yard sprint in the fourth quarter for his final score of the day. He carried the ball five times on third down and converted for a first down four times. DEFENSIVE Cole Pitts, Texas A&M University - Commerce, SR, LB, Alvin, Texas, Alvin HS Pitts led the Lions defense with nine total tackles in the Lone Star Conference Championship clinching win over Midwestern State, 27-14. The senior added an interception, a forced fumble and a pass break up in the Lions defensive effort. On the game, A&M-Commerce forced six turnovers and held MSU to 315 total yards in the win. Pitts’ pick came in the second quarter and led to a Lions touchdown which gave the Lions a 21-0 lead right before the half. SPECIAL TEAMS Felipe Parra, West Texas A&M University, JR, P, Center, Texas, Center HS Parra had a career night for the Buffs in a 24-14 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. He had four punts for a 48.2 average, including a career-long 76 yard punt turning field position late in the game with the 76-yarder getting the Buffs out of deep in their own end pinning the Javelinas at their own seven. He had two punts inside the 20 and on touchback. The 76-yarder was the longest since Kevin Van Voris had a 72-yarder at Midwestern State on Nov. 16, 2013. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Geremy Alridge-Mitchell, West Texas A&M University, returned to workhorse status for the Buffs in a 24-14 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night as the Buffs snapped a three-game skid. Alridge-Mitchell set a new school-record for carries with 45 for 149 yards and one touchdown. He broke his own record of 40 carries set at Midwestern State Oct. 10. Alridge-Mitchell has 973 yards rushing on the year with 10 touchdowns for a 131.9 average per game. Richard Cooper, Texas A&M University - Commerce, has been the most consistent player in the Lone Star Conference in 2015. Cooper has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the first eight games for the Lions setting a new Lion school record. He is two games away from setting the school record for most 100-yard rushing games in a single-season. He hit right at 100 yards on 21 carries in the Lions Lone Star Conference Championship clinching win over Midwestern State, 27-14. Cooper is the only running back in the LSC to record 100 rushing yards in every game of the season and is one of four running backs in the NCAA with 100 yards rushing in every game in 2015. Zed Woerner, Tarleton State University, put on an offensive clinic from the quarterback position as the sophomore signal caller led Tarleton to a school-record 84 points in last weekend’s victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State. Woerner completed 29-40 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns in his turnover-free effort. He completed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Le’Nard Meyers and played a turnover-free game. This was Tarleton’s first five-touchdown passing effort since 2014 and Woerner’s second career 400-yard passing game. AA Vaaulu, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, led Texas A&M-Kingsville in tackles with a career-high 14. He had a couple big smacks to hold the West Texas A&M running backs to no gain or a loss. Vaaulu helped out to record half a sack for two yards and finished with two tackles behind the line of scrimmage totaling seven yards. Cody Burtscher, Tarleton State University, led the Tarleton defense with 11 total tackles, becoming the only Texan to crack double-figure stops. He also had one sack for a four-yard loss and another 1.5 tackles for a loss of four yards. LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE 2 Integrity | Tradition | Academic Excellence | LONE STAR CONFERENCE | Community | Respect | Commitment De’Aundre Sanders, Eastern New Mexico University, made six tackles against Angelo State and made a 35-yard interception return in the second quarter, to set the Greyhounds up at the Angelo State one-yard line. Eastern scored two plays later to take a 28-7 lead. Sanders’ performance helped ENMU limit the LSC’s second ranked team in total offense to 15 points and 50 rushing yards in the first half. In the second quarter, Sanders also broke up a third-down pass, to thwart a scoring opportunity. Daelin Young, West Texas A&M University, was all over the field in the Buffs’ 24-14 win at Texas A&M- Kingsville Saturday evening. Young had five total tackles with four solo stops, along with 1.5 sacks for 13 yards and 1.5 tackles for loss for 13 yards. Young and the Buffs held TAMUK to 193 yards of total offense in the game which was a season-low against WT and a season-low 57 yards passing allowed. Isaac Arellano, Tarleton State University, saved his best performance of the season for his senior night. The senior punter booted three punts – two of which landed inside the 20 – for a total of 141 yards and an average of 47.0 yards per punt.
