2. From the beginning
• My dad and Congressman Todd Platts met
working on a Gubernatorial Campaign.
o In 1986
• Their friendship still remains intact today.
3. Election Night
In November 2000 it
was exciting to be
part of Todd's
election night
celebration. I will
always remember the
press going crazy
because of the
historic Presidential
election between
President George W.
Bush and Al Gore.
4. A Visit to St. Francis School
In January 2001, his first public speaking event,
was a visit to my school. He impressed upon
us to follow our dreams as he did.
5. Visits to the White House
Twice while Congressman Platts was in office
he arranged for my family to tour the White
House. The first time was in June 2001 and
the second was last winter right before
Christmas.
6. Regrets
During our first trip to Washington, D.C., I refused an
invitation to go on to the House floor with the
Congressman and cast his vote on a bill. Congress is
permitted to take children under a certain age on the
floor with them. Other visitors must observe from the
gallery. If only I had listened to my parents...
7. The Right Man for the Job
I have a deep admiration and respect for
Congressman Platts. He may be one of the only
politicians to refuse PAC money. When my
parents hosted fundraisers for him he only
accepted personal checks. He was always true
to his word and a trusted man.
8. Our Final Project
It was bittersweet that I was able to present
Todd to my senior government class. It was
one of his final events as a Congressman. It
was a honor that he made time for me in the
beginning of his career and at the end.
9. Closing the Doors
In the picture to the
left, Congressman
Platts and my dad
removed the sign from
the Congressman's
Gettysburg office.
