For this particular assignment given, our group are able to accomplish
the assignment successfully with the help of our Social Psychology lecturer,
Mr. Shankar, for his continuous guidance throughout the semester. If it
wasn’t for him, we would never had understand the various concepts in
psychology.
Furthermore, we would like to thank some of our classmates, Brandon
Liaw, Alfred Ti, Teoh Zhe Khai, Tay Siew Wen, And Theresa Thia, for giving
us support and help in filming the video. Without their cooperation, we
wouldn’t be able to film our video smoothly and successfully.
Last but not least, we would like to thank Law Zhi Chang, for directing
and editing the video. Also, much thanks to the group mates who gave
ideas in coming up the story.

Introduction
Social psychology is the scientific study of how people's
thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined, or
implied presence of others. Social psychology looks at a wide range of social
topics, including group behaviour, social perception, leadership, nonverbal
behaviour, conformity, aggression, and prejudice. It is important to note that
social psychology is not just about looking at social influences. Social
perception and social interaction are also vital to understanding social behaviour.
In this social psychology final project, we are required to create a
short video that required at least 5 different concepts that we have learnt
throughout the whole semester in Social Psychology and the concepts must not
be reuse from the previous comic assignment. We are also required to write a
research report based on the content of short video and also present the video
during class. We are randomly divided by Mr. Shankar into groups of four to
complete the project.
The purpose of this project is to allow student to recognize and
identify the connections among concepts and perspectives within psychology
and with other disciplines. Students are also learned to engage in psychological
inquiry and become self-regulated learners in real life.

Procedure
At first, we always communicated by our group chat in a phone application called
Whatsapp. All 4 of us actually hadn’t have a proper face to face meeting as all of our time
schedule are different and it was hard to meet up in the same time. We could only
communicate through the group chat and do discussion. Then there was one day we all finally
got together and discussed about our assignment face to face.
During the discussion, everyone was to give out a few concepts that they were familiar
with. Then, by focusing on the concepts given, we chose 5 concepts that were able to link
together to form a story that can be filmed into a short video. Finally, we all agreed to the
concepts and a story was produced with everyone’s ideas and opinions. All of the members
decided to film the video in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as some of the members
have transportation issues and the only place convenient for us to film our video is in the
campus.
On the day we were about to film, Zhi Chang our leader gave us a short brief on the story
in case we forgot and the roles we were supposed to play. We set up the materials and
apparatus that was needed for our filming setting and it took us about 30 minutes for the
setting to be set up. After that, we found some of our classmates nearby and asked for their
assistance in playing some roles in the video. Thankfully they agreed without hesitation and
cooperated with us. It took us 3 hours in filming the video.
Next, the video was transferred to Zhi Chang’s laptop as he was in charge in editing the video
using two editing video software called Adobe Premiere and After Effect. Lastly, we divided
the remaining task among the remaining group members as we wanted the assignment to be
done before the submission date. Sarah and Lettitia were in charge in the report while
Christina was in charge in the presentation slides.

Discussion
Storyline
Charity Drive
After finish class, Sherry decided to go home. She went out of classroom
and saw two booths were selling food for charity. Sherry felt hungry so she
decided to buy some food. Then, she walked in front of the two booths and
began to observe them. Through Sherry observation, the left booth was clean
and tidy but the right booth was dirty and messy. Sherry felt unpleasant to the
left booth. Sherry assumed that the left booth is managed by girls and the right
booth is managed by boys. Sherry lifted up her head and saw 4 girls stood at the
left booth and 3 boys stood at the right booth, so her assumption was right. Both
booths were selling the same item, cooked sweet corn. The price of the sweet
corn in left booth was RM 1.88, and was cheaper than the sweet corn at right
booth which was RM2; actually the cost is the same. Then, a girl and a boy
from each respective booth came in front to persuade her to buy their food. The
girl was acting rudely and unreasonable while she was persuading Sherry to buy
her food but the boy was being friendly and polite when he was convincing
Sherry to buy his food. Sherry felt more likely to support the boy because of the
nice behaviour of him, so she rejected the girl and went to the boy’s booth. The
boy politely served her the food and thanked her. Sherry went off and ate the
food. Sherry was surprised that the food was delicious and she realized that not
only girls but boys can also cook very well.
6
Concepts applied
The 5 concept that had incorporated in this video are First Impression, Framing
heuristic, Sexism, Persuasion, Liking and Self-awareness.
First Concept: First Impression
Definition: first impression is the event when one person first encounters
another person and forms a mental image of that person. Impression accuracy
varies depending on the observer and the target (person, object, scene, etc.)
being observed.
Explanation: In the first scene Sherry saw two booths, one was clean but
another was dirty and messy so Sherry will think that the dirty booth’s food do
not taste well and be more likely to support the clean booth.
Second Concept: Framing Heuristic
Definition: The term frame dependence means that the way people behave
depends on the way that their decision problems are framed. Framing is a
cognitive heuristic in which people tend to reach conclusions based on the
'framework' within which a situation was presented. Example, if a milk is
written without contain 5% of fat but another is written contain 95% of fat,
people will more likely to purchase the word 5% although it is the same.
7
Explanation: Sherry saw one of the booth price is RM 1.88 and another booth
price is RM 2 so she felt more likely to buy the RM 1.88 although the cost is the
same.
Third Concept: Sexism
Definition: Sexism is both discrimination based on gender and the attitudes,
stereotypes, and the cultural elements that promote this discrimination. Given
the historical and continued imbalance of power, where men as a class are
privileged over women as a class (see male privilege), an important, but often
overlooked, part of the term is that sexism is prejudice plus power. Thus
feminists reject the notion that women can be sexist towards men because
women lack the institutional power that men have.
Explanation: After observed both booths, Sherry think that the cleaner booth
will be girls but dirty booth will be boys and she also think that boys cannot
cook better than girls.
RM 1.88 VS RM 2
8
Forth Concept: Persuasion
Definition: Process aimed at changing a person's (attitude or behaviour toward
some event, idea, object, or other person), by using written or
spoken words to convey information, feelings, or reasoning, or a combination of
them.
Explanation: Two persons from respective booths came in front of Sherry to
convince her to buy their food, so Sherry can make her decision depends on
their speech whether which booth to support.
Fifth Concept: Liking
Definition: people are more likely to communicate or get in touch with people
who are being friendly or factors that influence initial attraction (physical
attraction, interaction, similarity, etc.)
9
Explanation: The girl was acting rude and unreasonable but the boy was
persuading Sherry politely, Sherry was more likely to support the boy’s booth
although their booth was dirty and messy because people are more likely to get
in touch with people who being nice with them.
Sixth Concept: Self-awareness
Definition: Self-awareness is one of the first components of the self-concept to
emerge. Self-awareness becomes woven into the fabric of who we are and
emerges at different points depending upon the situation and our personality.
However, we are not born with self-awareness.
Explanation: Sherry was surprised that the food from the boy’s booth also
tasted delicious and she realized boys also can cook well.
10
Conclusion
Through this assignment given, all 4 of us are able to have a better
understanding in the concepts of Social Psychology and we are able to
incorporate the concepts learned into real life situations. Other than that, we
manage to recognize and identify the relations among concepts and perspectives
of psychology.
Besides that, we also learned how to apply the concepts learned into our
video with a creative manner. Furthermore, we also developed some video
shooting skills and story writing skills. Most importantly, we all got to develop
our acting skills as some of us are not used in acting in front of the cameras.
Nevertheless, we managed to overcome the awkwardness in front of the
cameras and complete our video filming smoothly.
Lastly, we gained some great experiences through this assignment as it was
slightly different from our other assignments. Aside from gaining knowledge
about Social Psychology, we also got to enjoy ourselves in the making of the
video.

  • 4. 2 Introduction Social psychology is the scientific study of how people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. Social psychology looks at a wide range of social topics, including group behaviour, social perception, leadership, nonverbal behaviour, conformity, aggression, and prejudice. It is important to note that social psychology is not just about looking at social influences. Social perception and social interaction are also vital to understanding social behaviour. In this social psychology final project, we are required to create a short video that required at least 5 different concepts that we have learnt throughout the whole semester in Social Psychology and the concepts must not be reuse from the previous comic assignment. We are also required to write a research report based on the content of short video and also present the video during class. We are randomly divided by Mr. Shankar into groups of four to complete the project. The purpose of this project is to allow student to recognize and identify the connections among concepts and perspectives within psychology and with other disciplines. Students are also learned to engage in psychological inquiry and become self-regulated learners in real life.

  • 6. 4 Procedure At first, we always communicated by our group chat in a phone application called Whatsapp. All 4 of us actually hadn’t have a proper face to face meeting as all of our time schedule are different and it was hard to meet up in the same time. We could only communicate through the group chat and do discussion. Then there was one day we all finally got together and discussed about our assignment face to face. During the discussion, everyone was to give out a few concepts that they were familiar with. Then, by focusing on the concepts given, we chose 5 concepts that were able to link together to form a story that can be filmed into a short video. Finally, we all agreed to the concepts and a story was produced with everyone’s ideas and opinions. All of the members decided to film the video in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as some of the members have transportation issues and the only place convenient for us to film our video is in the campus. On the day we were about to film, Zhi Chang our leader gave us a short brief on the story in case we forgot and the roles we were supposed to play. We set up the materials and apparatus that was needed for our filming setting and it took us about 30 minutes for the setting to be set up. After that, we found some of our classmates nearby and asked for their assistance in playing some roles in the video. Thankfully they agreed without hesitation and cooperated with us. It took us 3 hours in filming the video. Next, the video was transferred to Zhi Chang’s laptop as he was in charge in editing the video using two editing video software called Adobe Premiere and After Effect. Lastly, we divided the remaining task among the remaining group members as we wanted the assignment to be done before the submission date. Sarah and Lettitia were in charge in the report while Christina was in charge in the presentation slides.
  • 7. 5 Discussion Storyline Charity Drive After finish class, Sherry decided to go home. She went out of classroom and saw two booths were selling food for charity. Sherry felt hungry so she decided to buy some food. Then, she walked in front of the two booths and began to observe them. Through Sherry observation, the left booth was clean and tidy but the right booth was dirty and messy. Sherry felt unpleasant to the left booth. Sherry assumed that the left booth is managed by girls and the right booth is managed by boys. Sherry lifted up her head and saw 4 girls stood at the left booth and 3 boys stood at the right booth, so her assumption was right. Both booths were selling the same item, cooked sweet corn. The price of the sweet corn in left booth was RM 1.88, and was cheaper than the sweet corn at right booth which was RM2; actually the cost is the same. Then, a girl and a boy from each respective booth came in front to persuade her to buy their food. The girl was acting rudely and unreasonable while she was persuading Sherry to buy her food but the boy was being friendly and polite when he was convincing Sherry to buy his food. Sherry felt more likely to support the boy because of the nice behaviour of him, so she rejected the girl and went to the boy’s booth. The boy politely served her the food and thanked her. Sherry went off and ate the food. Sherry was surprised that the food was delicious and she realized that not only girls but boys can also cook very well.
  • 8. 6 Concepts applied The 5 concept that had incorporated in this video are First Impression, Framing heuristic, Sexism, Persuasion, Liking and Self-awareness. First Concept: First Impression Definition: first impression is the event when one person first encounters another person and forms a mental image of that person. Impression accuracy varies depending on the observer and the target (person, object, scene, etc.) being observed. Explanation: In the first scene Sherry saw two booths, one was clean but another was dirty and messy so Sherry will think that the dirty booth’s food do not taste well and be more likely to support the clean booth. Second Concept: Framing Heuristic Definition: The term frame dependence means that the way people behave depends on the way that their decision problems are framed. Framing is a cognitive heuristic in which people tend to reach conclusions based on the 'framework' within which a situation was presented. Example, if a milk is written without contain 5% of fat but another is written contain 95% of fat, people will more likely to purchase the word 5% although it is the same.
  • 9. 7 Explanation: Sherry saw one of the booth price is RM 1.88 and another booth price is RM 2 so she felt more likely to buy the RM 1.88 although the cost is the same. Third Concept: Sexism Definition: Sexism is both discrimination based on gender and the attitudes, stereotypes, and the cultural elements that promote this discrimination. Given the historical and continued imbalance of power, where men as a class are privileged over women as a class (see male privilege), an important, but often overlooked, part of the term is that sexism is prejudice plus power. Thus feminists reject the notion that women can be sexist towards men because women lack the institutional power that men have. Explanation: After observed both booths, Sherry think that the cleaner booth will be girls but dirty booth will be boys and she also think that boys cannot cook better than girls. RM 1.88 VS RM 2
  • 10. 8 Forth Concept: Persuasion Definition: Process aimed at changing a person's (attitude or behaviour toward some event, idea, object, or other person), by using written or spoken words to convey information, feelings, or reasoning, or a combination of them. Explanation: Two persons from respective booths came in front of Sherry to convince her to buy their food, so Sherry can make her decision depends on their speech whether which booth to support. Fifth Concept: Liking Definition: people are more likely to communicate or get in touch with people who are being friendly or factors that influence initial attraction (physical attraction, interaction, similarity, etc.)
  • 11. 9 Explanation: The girl was acting rude and unreasonable but the boy was persuading Sherry politely, Sherry was more likely to support the boy’s booth although their booth was dirty and messy because people are more likely to get in touch with people who being nice with them. Sixth Concept: Self-awareness Definition: Self-awareness is one of the first components of the self-concept to emerge. Self-awareness becomes woven into the fabric of who we are and emerges at different points depending upon the situation and our personality. However, we are not born with self-awareness. Explanation: Sherry was surprised that the food from the boy’s booth also tasted delicious and she realized boys also can cook well.
  • 12. 10 Conclusion Through this assignment given, all 4 of us are able to have a better understanding in the concepts of Social Psychology and we are able to incorporate the concepts learned into real life situations. Other than that, we manage to recognize and identify the relations among concepts and perspectives of psychology. Besides that, we also learned how to apply the concepts learned into our video with a creative manner. Furthermore, we also developed some video shooting skills and story writing skills. Most importantly, we all got to develop our acting skills as some of us are not used in acting in front of the cameras. Nevertheless, we managed to overcome the awkwardness in front of the cameras and complete our video filming smoothly. Lastly, we gained some great experiences through this assignment as it was slightly different from our other assignments. Aside from gaining knowledge about Social Psychology, we also got to enjoy ourselves in the making of the video.
