As children become readers, they must understand the parts of a
sentence. Parts of a sentence include nouns (words that name
people, places, or things), verbs (words that show action),
adjectives (words that describe nouns), adverbs (words that
describe verbs) and articles (words that define nouns – a, the).
Children will move from simple sentences to more complex
sentences encountered in their reading and writing.
