3. Prezi
I have used this media platform to express ideas in
the process of making my coursework. It is a easy
way to present information that is clear and
accessible. I had not previously used Prezi so it took
a while to get used to it but I soon learnt how to
make presentations. I think it gives a professional
feel to the presentation.
4. Slideshare
This platform allows you to upload PowerPoint
presentations to their website where you can share it
with others. Again I had not used this platform
before so I needed to learn how to use it but it wasn’t
hard at all. Using Slideshare allowed
me to embed various presentations
on my blog very easily. As you can
see this is how it appears on my blog,
you can go through the whole presen-
tation on my blog.
5. Blogger
For my project I have used Blogger to create a
portfolio/blog that keeps track of all my posts easily.
I had not used Blogger before so I had to learn how to
post, edit and manage different posts but this was
easy once I got used to it. This software creates a
professional look to my portfolio and allows me to
keep on top of tasks which has made my whole
project more efficient.
6. Adobe Fireworks
This software is the one I felt most comfortable using. For my
I.T GCSE we used Fireworks a lot and that is where I learnt
new techniques on how to edit things. This knowledge has
helped me a lot as I feel I really worked hard at creating my
magazine to make it look professional. Small things on
Fireworks make a big difference for example, knowing how to
remove a background is minor but makes the task much
faster, which is good as time management is key in the
project. I am happy with the end result of my magazine after
using this software.
7. Fujitsu Camera
I had experience using a camera before so using it
for my photo shoot wasn’t hard at all. But it was
different using it for a media purpose, I had to try
out different shots and distances to ensure my
pictures worked well in my magazine. For example,
using a close up to grab the readers attention.
I think my pictures work well in my magazine,
they all represent the genre and suit the target
audience.
8. Question 7
LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE
LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT
TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
9. Preliminary task
I think the most important thing I have learnt from the
progression of my preliminary task is how to use the layout
effectively. I had not taken into consideration the layout and I
have ignored the forms and conventions of magazines. I can
see now that this looks more like a poster as their is minimal
cover lines and the picture doesn’t fill the page, etc. So on my
cover I made sure I shot a picture that would allow me to
manipulate cover lines and puffs on my page effectively.
For my music magazine, I have taken more research that has
allowed me to adapt the forms and conventions of music
magazines more effectively in my work. It was harder to
research in my preliminary task as there are not as many
professional school magazines to take advice from. So I
ensured that I have took more focus groups which gave me
more feedback which has made my work better.
11. Preliminary task
From creating the contents page for my school magazine
I learnt the importance of researching professional
contents. I found it hard to fill the page and not let it look
empty. One thing that I have kept similar is the actual
bulk text. I liked it being in a list with page numbers on
one side then the pictures on the other. It worked well on
my preliminary task and research showed this was a
common convention of R&B magazines so I decided to
keep it similar. However the different use of fonts on my
music contents page make it look more professional and
also the images that accompany the text suit the genre.
13. What I have learnt...
Overall I believe I have learnt a lot from the progression
between my preliminary task and my actual producing of my
product. I think one of the most important things that I have
learnt is how to manage my time. In my preliminary task I
had not made a plan so I was just doing it as I went, I then fell
behind in creating my product. So before I started creating I
made a plan that would keep me up to date with tasks and
stop me from falling behind.
Also, I think the software I used made a big difference. For my
school magazine I used Pages and for my actual product I
used Adobe Fireworks. Fireworks was more suitable to create
my magazine and it allowed me to manipulate the editing
much easier and most importantly much faster. This made the
whole production process a lot easier as I had a lot more
experience using Fireworks.
