Health is not merely the absence of disease. It includes mental as well as physical
state of a person. Health can be defined in different forms. We are focused on
health as the complete state of mental, physical and social well-being. Health is
determined by different factors. One of them is related with our habits. Exercising,
eating well, drinking water and avoiding alcohol and smoking can benefit a
person’s health. On the contrary, eating junk food, not getting enough sleep and
having a sedentary lifestyle can damage a person’s health and making him/her
develop many problems such as cardiovascular ones.
People can take care of their health in many ways; one of them is maintaining an
active lifestyle and strong social relationships. Also, the context in which a person
lives is of great importance in their health status. Stress is an aspect that can affect
a person’s health and if chronic can make a person develop depressive patterns.
You may wonder: “how can I improve my health?” As I said before is important to
get enough sleep, eating well and making exercise. The choices you make will
have an impact of your health status; take care of yourself and others. How do you
thing youngsters can have a better health status? And what are the habits they
need to put in practice to do it?
What Is Health? What Does Good Health Mean?

person’s health condition.
 How be can define ‘health determinants’?
Introduction stage: Teacher introduces the
following questions
Once you have answered the questions you are ready to start writing your essay.
Remember an essay is a way to expose your point of view, please try to be
creative in your writing and express your ideas by using arguments. You can also
look for aditional information. The following links are different ways of writing an
essay. Remember an essay should have an introduction, a body and a
conclusion. Your essay should reflect a deep understanding of the topic. Please
remember to carefully follow the evaluation rubric guideliness. You can use the
template given for the activity if you like.
 How to write an essay: http://www.wikihow.com/Write-an-Essay
 The five-paragraph essay:
http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/five_par.htm
Presentation stage: Teacher gives students a presentation
of the activity and she specifies the activity requirements.
Dear student, you need to remember the things we practiced in the
classroom about verbal tenses and grammar. Remember to search in
the course book to practice the grammatical aspects required for
writing the essay. Review your notebook and search for grammatical
exercises we did in the classroom, this will help you to recall the things
you’ve learned.
Once you have written the essay, you are going to post it on the course blog. Remember
to put your essay a title. All groups should post their essays on the blog, make sure to
create an entry. Each entry should be named: Groupnumber_EssayName, example:
Group 5_FactorsofHealth
Teacher is going to review each essay, for this reason the blog entries should be
organized. If you forgot how to enter the course blog, remeber you have to use the
course e-mail and password. Teacher is going to review each essay and grade them
according to the evaluation rubric. A group for extra study and instruction will be created
to help those students that need reinforcement in the activity. Teacher willl assign a group
leader and she will give her/him the e-mail password for entering to the course blog. The
leader must publish his/her group essay in the blog.
Production stage: Students are going to deliver
the final product as at the end of the activity.
Blog addres: http://learningenglishweb20tools.blogspot.com.co/
E-mail: Learningenglishweb20@gmail.com
Once all groups have posted their essays, you are required to post a
comment down each entry of the blog. The comment must be a revision
of your classmate’s essay. This revision must take into account the
criteria given in the evaluation rubric. Make a comment based on the
ideas your classmate’s stated. Remember to use Netiquette rules.
