TYPES OF THEFT
• Shoplifting
• Robbery
• Burglary
• Petty theft or
Grand theft
TYPES OF THEFT
• Shoplifting is possibly
the most common type of
theft charge seen by
courts, and also the first
type that comes to mind
when a person thinks of
goods being stolen.
• It is defined as the
stealing of goods from a
retail establishment,
from a department store
in a shopping mall to a
small grocery or
convenience store.
TYPES OF THEFT
• Robbery is the term
used to describe
theft accomplished
through the use of
violence, threat of
violence, or use of
other intimidation
tactics.
• Robbery can run the
gamut from a quick
mugging to a
detailed, violent,
large-scale bank
robbery.
TYPES OF THEFT
• Burglary is a
blanket term
applied to instances
where theft is
accompanied by
trespassing.
• Home invasion
break-ins, stealing
goods from closed
stores, or taking
property out of a
parked car are all
forms of burglary.

• Petty theft or
Grand theft,-
depending on the
value of goods or
assets stolen. The
dollar amount
where the line is
drawn depends on
the state.

• Incorporate a Theft Prevention Program
into your existing loss prevention
program.
• Involve your staff through education,
training and awareness about theft
prevention.
• Investigate and resolve issues
involving theft promptly.
• Understand that although theft may not
be happening now, it can occur at
anytime with anyone.
• Continue to learn about theft
prevention.

  • 4. PILFERAGE • Pilferage is the theft of part of the contents of a package. • It may also include theft of the contents but leaving the package, perhaps resealed with bogus contents

  • 12. TYPES OF THEFT • Shoplifting • Robbery • Burglary • Petty theft or Grand theft
  • 13. TYPES OF THEFT • Shoplifting is possibly the most common type of theft charge seen by courts, and also the first type that comes to mind when a person thinks of goods being stolen. • It is defined as the stealing of goods from a retail establishment, from a department store in a shopping mall to a small grocery or convenience store.
  • 14. TYPES OF THEFT • Robbery is the term used to describe theft accomplished through the use of violence, threat of violence, or use of other intimidation tactics. • Robbery can run the gamut from a quick mugging to a detailed, violent, large-scale bank robbery.
  • 15. TYPES OF THEFT • Burglary is a blanket term applied to instances where theft is accompanied by trespassing. • Home invasion break-ins, stealing goods from closed stores, or taking property out of a parked car are all forms of burglary.
  • 16. TYPES OF THEFT • Petty theft or Grand theft,- depending on the value of goods or assets stolen. The dollar amount where the line is drawn depends on the state.
  • 17. THE COST OF THEFT • Increased Food Costs • Lower Profit Margin • Loss of Customers • Employee Morale
  • 18. THEFT PREVENTION • Incorporate a Theft Prevention Program into your existing loss prevention program. • Involve your staff through education, training and awareness about theft prevention. • Investigate and resolve issues involving theft promptly. • Understand that although theft may not be happening now, it can occur at anytime with anyone. • Continue to learn about theft prevention.
