4. Concept of Mobile Network
Technology
A cellular network or mobile network is a
communication network where the last link
is wireless. The network is distributed over
land areas called cells; each served by at
least one fixed-location known as base
station. This base station provides the cell
with the network coverage which can be
used for transmission of voice, data and
others.

6. 1G Technology
1G refers to the first generation of
wireless telephone technology which was
first introduced in 1980s.
AMPS was first launched 1G mobile
systems in USA.
It’s Speed was up to 2.4kbps.
1G network use Analog Signal.
6
7. Weakness of 1G Technology
Poor Voice Quality.
Large Phone Size.
No Security.
Limited Capacity.
Poor Handoff Reliability.
7
8. 2G Technology
The technologies used in 2G are either
TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access)
which divides signal into different time
slots or CDMA (Code Division Multiple
Access) which allocates a special code to
each user so as to communicate over a
multiplex physical channel.
8
9. 2G Technology
It was launched in Finland in the year
1991.
2G network use digital signals.
It’s data speed was up to 64kbps.
It provides better quality and capacity.
It enables services such as text
messages, picture messages and MMS.
9
10. Weakness of 2G Technology
o It’s unable to handle complex data
such as Videos.
o It is significantly slower.
10
11. 2.5G Technology
2.5G is a technology between 2nd and 3rd
generation of mobile telephony. 2.5G is
sometimes described as 2G Cellular
Technology combined with GPRS.
It includes some extra features with 2G like
email, camera, web browsing (speed: 64-144
kbps).
11
12. 3G Technology
3G technology introduced in 2000s.
Data Transmission speed increased (144kbps- 2Mbps).
Advanced developers can also develop apps for
mobile, IM and video chatting as 3G supports all these
and much more.
3G is a preferred platform for many popular mobile
phone games.
Developers can use this network to create maps and
positioning services.
12
13. Drawbacks of 3G Technology
o Expensive fees for 3G Licenses Services.
o High Bandwidth Requirement.
o Expensive 3G Phones Require.
o It was challenge to build the infrastructure
for 3G.
13
14. 4G Technology
4G offers is very good for advanced mobile
services such as video and movie streaming. This
offers much higher speed than 3G or Wi-Fi.
It’s data transfer rate is 100 Mbps.
Ultra Broadband Internet Services.
It’s Bandwidth is 100 MHz.
Download speed 14 Mbps.
Business users are more likely to use 4G
because it offers more security than Wi-Fi.
14
15. 5G Technology
Complete wireless communication
with almost no limitations.
Likely to be real ~2020.
It is highly supportable to WWWW.
High Speed & High Capacity.
Faster data transmission that of the
previous generations.
