4. Economic Growth
• The IMF’s forecast for China is reasonable at nine percent inflation-
adjusted growth. That forecast, however, assumes no collapse in
Europe, which is a pretty big assumption. Companies doing business with
China, as well as companies doing business with other companies that do
business in China, should understand both the upside and downside
potential for that country’s economic outlook. China’s economic growth
has been very good for quite some years. The consensus forecast now is
that 2012 growth will be right in line with the country’s long-term growth
potential of about nine percent per year. However, there are five key
issues to consider:
• Inflation fighting
• Housing bubble
• Export markets
• Cronyism
• Value of the Yuan
5. Human Rights
• Against a backdrop of rapid socio-economic change and modernization, China continues to be an
authoritarian one-party state that imposes sharp curbs on freedom of expression, association, and
religion; openly rejects judicial independence and press freedom; and arbitrarily restricts and suppresses
human rights defenders and organizations, often through extra-judicial measures.
• Here are some important rights to be under considered:
1. Legal Reforms
2. Freedom of Expression
3. Freedom of Religion
