Which collaborative platform? <ul><li>Domino has delivered across campus access to course materials </li></ul><ul><li>Thanks to LUVLE staff we have stretched its capability but we are have reached its limits.    </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>  Software written in the mid/late 80's and outmoded. </li></ul><ul><li>  Originally designed for industry different needs    </li></ul><ul><li>Narrow range of tools option </li></ul><ul><li>Options are not user (teacher) controlled </li></ul><ul><li>  It is primarily a storage device. </li></ul><ul><li>Students see it as clumsy </li></ul>

Is LUVLE a VLE? <ul><li>A VLE defined as : </li></ul><ul><li>a learning environment used actively by teachers and learners </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Helps track progress </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Facilitates self and group learning and collaboration </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Embedded within learning and teaching </li></ul></ul></ul>

The way forward <ul><li>Technology not an end in itself </li></ul><ul><li>People and needs lie at heart of successful blended learning </li></ul><ul><li>Sakai, Moodle, Blackboard would all do the job </li></ul><ul><ul><li>User friendly </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Flexible </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Enhance productivity </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Varying templates/modules so one size doesn’t fit all </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Less about precise platform than ability to motivate and inspire </li></ul><ul><li>Failure to recognise need for change: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>‘ Imagine a school in which the children can read and write and in which the teachers cannot and you have a metaphor for the information age in which we live.’ </li></ul></ul>
